Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer Review*

So the other day this dropped through my letter box and I squeaked with excitement. I always look at smashbox and never know if I should take the plunge so having to opportunity to try it out for a few days. I received a few sachets and tried it over a week with a few different ย looks/make up products.

So I tried the primer over several days trying to get the most from it and fully put it to the test.

It has a thick creamy texture, that feels very gritty and drying. From the moment I put it on the back of my hand I couldn’t see how it was going to work but I thought I’d go for it it. It instantly smoothed into the skin but I noticed no visible change to my skin. After I applied my make up top, the first day with my L’Oreal True Match Perfection foundation and it just didn’t sit right, my whole make up didn’t look right no matter how much blending and work I did it just wasn’t sitting right.

Later in the week I tried it with my Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation, my ultimate favourite go to foundation. Still endless blending and I got it to look okay but after and morning in the library my make up wasn’t staying put and my skin felt dry desperate for hydration. So despite giving it a damn good go its drying, think and reduced my makeups staying power. I’m so disappointed as I had high hopes for smash box yet I am glad I did not have to pay for it and haven’t wasted the ยฃ25.00 for 30ml.

I wouldn’t recommend it, although I am yet to find the holy grail primer this time save your money. Let me know what primers you love at the moment and what I should try out.

I have fell head over heals for rimmels Fox and perfect primer. My skin is combination, but more so dry and the moment with the cold weather. This stuff hydrates my dry bits and keeps the oily bits at bay. I’ve also never been so impressed with a primer keeping my foundation in one place! It always used to move around by nose and chin all the time. This stuff makes it sat put! I don’t buy many primers twice cause i like to see what’s out there (the curse of the beauty blogger!) but I am definitely getting this one, blog be damned! Highly recommend it if your skin is temperamental but not overly oily.

If it’s the Pore Minimizing version of the primer you tried, you don’t rub it into your skin. You gently press/tap it on to it fills in/blurs your pores. Rubbing it in will make it look cakey and splotchy and as a result your foundation won’t look right when applied.
