February Favourites

feb faves

It’s that time again February favourites and I found it really hard to come up with a list of favourites this month so tried to take note of what I’ve been reaching for again and again this month to come up with my list.

The Body Shop Lip Butter Mango: With chapped lips being common place in winter due to extremes of hot and cold lip butter is a must, and this one is simply delicious. I tend to use this at the end of the day at the end of my skin care routine but I’ll use it more if my kinds need a little bit more TLC.

The Body Shop Body Scrub in Blueberry: I love the blueberry scents and I wanted a softer scent than the Soap and Glory scrub but that worked just as well and this definitely does. This is one of those body shop scrubs that looks like jam and smells amazing, it doesn’t taste amazing though my boyfriend tried it. I use this every couple of days and my legs feel so soft and silky. I’m loving it although the blueberry scents are limited edition so once it runs out I’ll stock up, if I can’t I’ll try a different scent in this range.

Benefits Roller Lash Mascara:  This is the sample version I got free with Elle this month and I love it, I’m still debating over buying the full version of it as I cannot justify spending £19.50 on a mascara especially as I use it up in a few months, anyone else think this? I love it, it adds amazing curl but I’m a student and work part time it’s 3 hours wages. I can justify on spending more on long lasting products like eye shadow especially a naked palette where it can create so many different looks with. Anyway enough rambling what do you think?

Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Nail Paint in Lyche: I’m one of those girls that always has to have my nails done but I cannot always be bothered to constantly touch my nails so this nude has been my go to. I love the Barry M Gelly formulas they look amazing and go on so easily and look amazing.

Umberto Giannini Miracle Worker with Argan Oil: I’m loving hair oils at the moment, they are keeping my hair silky and in amazing condition at the moment. I have three hair oils on the go at the moment but this is the one I’ve been reaching for most often although I guess hair oils in general should be a monthly favourite.

Bonus Favourite: Lilies

So as we all known February meant Valentines day and my boyfriend brought me two bouquets of lilies to mix together my traditional favourite of while lilies with the prettiest pink ones too, I love it.

So not much make up this month as its either stuff I am still trailing or are just my go to stuff that I am always loving. What have you been loving in February and what are you looking forward to in march?

L’Oreal Paris Miss Manga Punky Mascara Review

For ages I have been looking for a new mascara one that is inexpensive, volumising and inexpensive as in the drug store mascara (along with foundation), seem to have ever inflating prices. Over the last year or so, I’ve started to favour the harder bristles it might just be the better products use these types of brushes or that the brushes are better but I always feel like the result is much better.

The new (well newish) mascara claims all of the below:

Mega Volume texturising mascara for an intense spiky effect on top and bottom lashes.

The conical shape of the brush catches your top and bottom lashes. The large spaces between the bristles create a Punky comb like effect, that helps style your lashes into spikes.

The new texturising formula created by L’Oreal Paris researchers allows you to create unique lashes that look spiked with mega volume

Description taken from the Boots Website.

I was curious to try and my boyfriend got so annoyed about the name being a punk fan himself the entire concept pissed him off completely and then I bought it, oops!

PicMonkey Collage

The wand is truly unique the spindles been very small and spikey, it creates a unique spiked clumped together look which instantly makes a look a lot more dramatic. Now its not for an everyday laid back look or a romantic flirty look but if you want something that’s a little more edgy. Also it doesn’t do the same clumpy spikes that you see in in the adverts I get it slightly more subtle but it does clump, the only difference here is that it is meant to do this and not everyone will like this. Isn’t clumpy mascara a step backwards though? I here you cry, I suppose it is with eyelash combs and loads of unique brushes to get rid of clumps and now we have one to create clump mascara look. It serves a purpose somewhat I guess its unique but it is not good as the only mascara in your arsenal and I always try and work it a bit so it doesn’t just look like spider eye.

I have to say there is one major downside namely the fact that so much product goes on its quite hard to ensure you’ve taken it all off luckily I’ve recently brought the L’Oreal Skin Perfection Micellar Water which is amazing at taking it off. I’m not sponsored by L’Oreal Paris I just wish I was. Just make sure if you use it take you time taking it off, no one wants panda eyes in the morning.

Overall all I love the uniqueness of the product and its nice there is something new on the market however, I would always have at least one other mascara in my make up collection. So its great if you want the spiky clumped look but I think you’d be better off looking elsewhere.

The L’Oreal Mega Volume Miss Manga Punky Mascara is available from Boots and Superdrug  and retails for £8.99.

Have you tried the L’Oreal Mega Volume Miss Manga or the L’Oreal Mega Volume Miss Manga Punky? What are your thoughts, let me know in the comments below.

Maybelline New York Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser and Instant Fatigue Blur Review

Last year Maybelline Baby Skin was a big deal and I resisted buying them until back in January and they were on offer and I thought I’d finally give them a go. I picked up two of the baby skin products the Instant Pore Eraser and Instant Fatigue Blur so carry on reading if you want to know more.

First up is the Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser :

Maybelline Baby Skin provides a matte finish and leaves the skin fresh, soft and protected. The gel texture in Baby Skin instantly helps to vanish pores and makes the skin feel light.

It avoids a shine on the skin and makes the skin feel soft.

Bye bye pores!

The Instant Pore Eraser is a silicon based primer which is meant to smooth and erase pores and can be worn under make up and on its own. I will first consider it completely on its own, I applied a thing layer over my worst effected areas such as my nose and cheeks. I have to say I didn’t notice much of a difference a slight blur if that but that might be more because I really wanted it to rather than it actually doing something.

Under make up however, it is a slightly happier ending. So I put it under make up in similar areas as I said previously such as my nose and cheeks as well as my forehead as that’s where my make up tends to come off first throughout the day. My make up applied somewhat smoother and though a day of study with exams and revision sessions from 8am to 5pm my make up stayed perfect in place. I wouldn’t say its a pore eraser but it does help make up stay in place, the only problem is the bottle is fairly small for the price although a little does go a long way. Overall its an okay product but it doesn’t have that wow factor and I think I’m unlikely to repurchase as I’m going to try other products on the market.

The recommended retail price for Maybelline New York New Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser is £7.99 and is available at a wide variety of shops such as Boots and Superdrug.

I also tried out the Maybelline New York New Baby Skin Instant Fatigue Blur:

 Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Fatigue Blur Primer. This water-based blurring complex hydrates, refreshes and smooths the appearance of skin for a perfect finish – with or without foundation.

This is available in both Rose and Apricot, as rose was all that was in the shops when I went in. The first thing you’ll notice even before you apply it is the smell that has a tinge of alcohol and is just generally unpleasant looking as it sinks in the smell starts to disappear as it soaks into the skin. Now to start with how it works on this skin, you are meant to be able to wear this on its own but I honestly wouldn’t it adds nothing to your look and improves nothing I do not look any more awake or radiant. Under make up it also adds nothing but my make up did last all day. Another few things it has in its favour is that it applies smoothly and easily and it does moisturise the skin.

The main thing that rose is meant to brighten fair to medium skin tones, so maybe if you want true fatigue blur you might be better off with the apricot one as that is the best colour for counteracting dark circles. Saying that this is advertised as fatigue blur a saviour for the tired student and yet it does very little.

The recommended retail price for Maybelline New York New Baby Skin Instant Fatigue Blur in Cool Rose is £7.99 and is available from shops such as Boots and Superdrug.

So would I repurchase any of these? I may consider repurchasing the Instant Pore Eraser yet there are many more primers on the market and their is probably better out there, on the other hand I would never repurchase the Instant Fatigue Blur as it does nothing. I’m looking forward to trying out Rimmel’s Fix and Perfect Primer as recommended to me by Clare from Clare’s Beauty, if you have any further suggestions let me know in the comments below.

Valentines Day: Beauty and Make Up

I’m not big on the commercialism that goes along with valentines the tacky hearts, balloons, chocolates and worst of all red roses but for me its a nice excuse to go out for a lovely meal and spend the day together. In addition to that I can pamper myself a bit the night before which is a bonus too. This was meant to be more of a OOTD/OOTN post but as I completely forgot it will just be my make up I wore ect.

The Night Before

It’s time for a well earned spot of me time after a busy week of university and work I decided to treat myself to a spot of pampering. In the morning I washed my hair and used a hair mask as well as hair oil, the winter weather is really drying out my hair and I’ll do anything to keep my hair silky and smooth.

So then I decided to rush myself a deep luxurious bath with my Ted Baker Bath Foam, as well as using the time to indulge even further with The Face Shop Sparkling Wine Face Mask. Nothing beats relaxing bath with a face mask, I also watch a touch of youtube on my phone as I knew I’d be having a bath at the end of the week I saved up a bunch of youtube from through out the week by adding them all to my watch later list.

However, I was meant to be using the gorgeous smelling LUSH Think Pink Bath Bomb but with the boards in store I never realise that has Lavender Oil in it which I’m allergic to, severely allergic. I made that mistake with several bath bombs I brought as I don’t usually buy lush so the only one I could use was the butter ball which I loved. So sadly the twilight bath bomb, think pink bath bomb and big blue bathroom have had to be chucked, at least then bin may smell nice.

Day Time

DSCF4499[1]We don’t do a soppy Valentines Day for us it is most important to spend the day together, so we hopped on the bus to Watford and spent the day browsing the shops and having a delicious lunch at GBK nomnom.

During the Day I kept my make up simple underneath my Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation in Light Porcelain I wore my Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Fatigue Blur, all as a simple attempt to make me look more awake than I really was after a stressful week. To add a slight flush to my cheeks I used the Make Up Revolution Blush in Now!, I cannot believe it was only £1.00 you get so much product and it is really well pigmented well worth checking out. I sealed it all in with my Collection Pressed Powder in Ivory before moving onto my eyes. As I was pressed for time in the morning I kept it simple just adding a wash of colour over my lid with my Hello Kitty Shimmer Dust in Dappled (Hello Kitty always makes me smile), before adding a small bit of highlight to the corner of my eye with the colour Aurora from my MUA Heaven and Earth palette.  I finished it all off with my sample of Benefits Roller Lash Mascara (which is amazing) and a swish of YSL Volupte Sheer Candy in Lush Coconut over my lips. Real sorry there are no pictures we were stretched for time.

Night Time

The main cliché thing we do on Valentines Day is go out for a meal, we love Bella Italia but its pricey for a student so its a treat kinda thing and its not tacky on Valentines. Also the Valentines menu is often great value but it was a bit crap this year so we booked out table for the standard one.

We got home with 30mintues until we had to leave again so I went for stuff which is effortless much looks great, upon getting in I removed all my make up with the L’Oreal Paris Skin Perfection Micellar Water. I’ve liked both the items I’ve tried from the Skin Perfection line so I’m tempted to try more, the micellar water removes make up so effortlessly and I’m so glad I picked it up. Then I jumped in the shower as a refresher is always essential before going to dinner and a 2 minute relax session before undertaking the most manic multitasking session of my life.

I used my good ol faithful base of Nivea Daily Essentials Express Hydration Primer which I am quickly running out of. I decided to use my bare minerals face products as they effortlessly blend and you can never get it wrong so I used my bareMinerals Original Foundation in Fairly Light blending it out with my bareMinerals Flawless Face Brush a perfect pair really. I finished off my face with yet more Bare Minerals products, I used my bareMinearls Loose Blush in Luminary and sealed in with my bareMinearals Mineral Veil. Finally moving on to a different brand of make up now, I used a mixture of bareMinerals single loose eye shadows and a No7 mini eye palette which was a Christmas gift to create a simple brown smokey eye. Finally to finish off the look I used a pink berry lip crayon from No 7 from another Christmas set so I don’t have the names.

So there you go my make up for the day, sorry I don’t have the pictures it was just a semi rushed day and I got caught up in the moment I didn’t have a chance to do it. Anyway I hope you all had a lovely Valentines Day whatever you did and I will speak to you guys again in my next post on Friday which will be a review on the Maybelline Baby Skin Primers.

Lots of Love

Bare Minerals Binge

A few weeks back I went into TKMaxx with my friend on a shopping and managed to pick up some amazing items I cannot really get over it. TKMaxx can be a bit hit and miss sometimes but its always worth going in case there is a great bargain especially as the range of cosmetics is vastly improving all the time. Back in the Summer my mum wanted to finally own some decent make up to go along with her new job so I introduced her to Bare Minerals and since then I have always kept wondering if I should try it too and its such brilliant quality make up.

With Bare Minerals your base is what you want it to be, light to full coverage you can build it up in certain areas as a concealer (although I’m yet to get the knack of that) and it just gives a fresh natural look to the face. The colour selection is also amazing and I definitely suggest that if your curious to check it out, using the bare minerals brushes are the best form of application so its worth getting it in a set for the first time you buy before buying the foundations on their own any way enough of the basics of bare minerals here.

So I managed to pick up two amazing packages, first up is the Bare Minerals Get Started Kit. This set contains:

  • Prime Time Original Foundation Primer 15ml;
  • Original SPF 15 Foundation in N10 Fairly Light;
  • Original SPF 15 Foundation in W15 Light;
  • Warmth All-Over Face Colour;
  • Original Mineral Veil;
  • Full Flawless Face Brush;
  • Flawless Application Face Brush;
  • and Max Coverage Concealer.

Basically the whole kit does your whole face as the warmth is a cross between a bronzer and a blush, but tends to be more like a bronzer as it really warms up your face and makes your face looks more natural. This is just a perfect kit to get you started you couldn’t ask for any better. The Light kit is perfect although you can get similar kits with single colours but this is perfect for me and it covers both winter and summer. If your unsure go to a counter or shop and get colour matched and feel it, its really the ultimate foundation I’m permanently switched, well probably this will be great for every day or a perfect face for interviews for graduate jobs (scary stuff), yet I think I will stick to having a liquid or other foundation for if I want to switch it up or want a different look as I like to keep my options opened. The recommended retail price for this kit was £49.99, I purchased this set for £29.99.

Then I picked up the beautiful In the Spotlight Kit, this was ideal to pick up as a pair as I now have a full make up look. This set includes:

  • Flawless Diamond Eye Colour in Peach Champagne;
  • Center Stage Eye Colour in Shimmering Gilded Pecan;
  • Flawless Definition Mascara in Black;
  • Luminary Blush in Sunwashed Berry;
  • Mini Marvellous Moxie Lipstick in Rosebud Mauve;
  • Shimmer Glaze Lip Top Coat in Diamond Glaze;
  • Tapered Shadow and Crease Brush;
  • and a Cosmetic Bag.

This essentially perfect for a low maintenance day time look right up to a classy evening look, the shadows are amazing and the crease brush side of the brush is amazing for blending and I’ve even used it for my every day look. The only thing I’m unsure about is the lip gloss, the colour and finish is spot on but it’s a plumping tingly lip gloss but I don’t always want the feel of it, still great for a night out. I’m yet to try the mascara as I’m currently trialling one for review purposes yet I’m excited to try it out when it comes to it. The recommended retail price for this product is £49.00, while I brought it for £29.99.

Both of these sets are amazing value and I’m so glad I finally purchased some bare minerals stuff at some point I may do a full look with these items so let me know if you want to see it. I just keep your eyes for bargains like this at your local TKMaxx and let me know what bargains you’ve found there.

Coping with Valentines Day Single

So Valentines has come round again and you find yourself single on Valetines Day, somehow unlike any other day of the year it feels like your victimised for being single and it shouldn’t be like that. So take control this valentines day and don’t let it get you down, if you see tomorrow as a looming impending doom here are some things tomorrow you could do instead.

PicMonkey Collage

  • Spend the day hanging out with friends, I used to do this all the time when I was younger me and my best friend would always plan to spend the day together and it usually involved shopping, drinking coffee and just generally having a lovely day out.
  • Have a pamper day, whether its on your own or with a group of friends take time out to treat yourself. Go wild in lush get some bath bombs and delicious face masks, add in some scented candles and some other pamper favourites and your good to go. If your alone spend take time out to have a relaxing bath if your with friends use bath bombs and bubbles bath to create a luxurious foot spa. After the bit of pamper you can even paint nails (get everyone to bring over their collections), try something new and out of your comfort zone.
  •  Binge watch movies all day, in the golden age of Netflix there is no better time to watch endless movies all day grab a ton of popcorn and other snacks, maybe even order take away and just make the most of the day. Whether you want to do it with friends or on your own binge watching stuff is the way to go, just stick away from rom-coms and you’ll be fine the best bets are disney or horror films.
  • Have a foodie nights, do a round the world theme with all your single friends and try dishes from all different areas in which everyone brings or cooks something different. This could be done with take away or you all cook it yourself, you can try something new or enjoy old favourites.
  • Do something you’ve been putting off for ages. Get some work done, organised your closet or make up collection we all have things we’ve being putting off for ages and there is no better time to do it. Clean out your wardrobe and sort out everything into piles get rid of what you don’t want either sell it on or give it to charity you’ll feel great and have plenty of space to update your wardrobe.
  • Go on a day out, similar to the first one but grab your bestie and go on a proper day out Valentines day is the first day of half term and their are tons of great offers about so go to a zoo, aquarium or amusement park. Yes okay its winter but it means there are less crowds and the general ticket price is lower so make the most of it.

The most important thing of all is to have fun, don’t think of it as Valetines treat it as any other day you are no less significant because you aren’t in a relationship. Go out there and make the most of each and everyday.

Valentines Gift Ideas for Him

A few days ago I did a post on Valentines Gifts for Her, and now its the guys turn. I often find guys harder to buy gifts for as they are so many less obvious gifts, I always resort to buying my other half a video game so unimaginative so her are some more ideas. I had help from my boyfriend with this post only problem is that his a loveable geek so it may not be to everyone’s taste I’ve tried to may it semi diverse but its hard.

Pie Love You Dearly . . .

Something a little different for the food lover in your life. I spotted these on Not on the High Street and thought they were amazing and with an approving nod from my boyfriend I decided to include them. Its just different and tasty (dependant on his appetite for pork pies). They can be eaten hot or cold and will delivered on Friday 13th February just it time for Valentines and they last up to 5 days its just something completely unique if only I hadn’t purchased a present already. Only problem is they are a little bit on the pricey side cost £27.50 with a delivery cost of £7.95 on top however, I kinda think its worth it. Available from Not on the Hight Street for £27.50.

Batman Bliss . . .

For the comic book nerd or maybe just batman lover in your life this Batman lamp will be a welcome addition in any home. Its just a fun lamp especially for a student house or a new place just to make it a bit fun and different. The lamp uses AAA batteries or you can use a micro usb port although you have to supply that yourself. Available from Red5 for £19.95.

The Magic is in the Mystery . . .

What do you buy the guy that has everything? Leave it up to fate with firebox mystery boxes for him (or her) and let them do the picking for you. The website is great so you can probably gage what could possibly be in the box by looking online if there is a lot he might be interested but your not sure what to get this may be a great idea. Also you’ll both be surprised on Valentines day when you find out what’s inside. Available from Firebox for £29.99.

 Smelling Sweet . . .

I always find guys, always seem to grab the first hair/body product they find  then moan that yours always smells better, so buy them something of their own so you can save all your good stuff. So I decided to search high and low for a nice looking set and finally found this nice one from Crabtree and & Evelyn its the Indian Sandlewood Travellers set, ideal for some time away in fact perfect for the Valentines Weekend. Available from Feel Unique for £24.00.

So here are just a few idea as men are so hard to buy for unless they are a gamer and then its obvious. If you have any further ideas please let me know in the comments below. Hope you all have a great Valentines (just 6 days to go).

Lots of Love

Sometimes it has to be flowers so to make it simpler for yourself, sites like Moon Pig do everything for you with a free card included. Buy a beautiful red rose bouquet, this package also includes chocolate truffles and a cute little candle so you don’t need to worry everything is done for you. Although red roses are and classic valentines gift double check what her favourite flowers are as sometimes you are better to get a small bunch of her favourite flower rather than a big bunch of roses she doesn’t want. This package is available from Moon Pig for £35.00.

Hopefully some of these ideas helped and inspired you for what to get your significant other this Valentines Day, on Sunday you’ll be able to see some gift ideas for him.

Valentines Outfit Ideas

Valentines Day is fast approaching and its all a matter of deciding what to wear for what ever you and your significant other are planning to do with the day it is a weekend this year after all. On Friday I will be doing a post dedicated to gift ideas for her followed by gift ideas for him on Sunday night  . .  If Valentines Day isn’t for you or your single my post on the Friday 13th February will be for you.

Outfit One: Dinner Date

♥  Dress: H&M £14.99 ♥ Shoes: BooHoo £22.00 ♥ Blazer: New Look £24.99 ♥

As with all special events going out for dinner is a go to for most people and is a great idea. Although its somewhat cliché red on valentines but this lace detailed red dress is sophisticated and sexy and ideal for a romantic dinner date. Due to the lace detailing on the dress I feel as though it is best to keep the rest of the look simple pair of black court shoes or heels and to top it all of a black jacket or coat. I personally love this open front blazer from new look, simple and it adds a bit of smartness to the look.

Outfit Two: Day Out

♥ Long Line Top: Asda £6.00 ♥ Skirt: H&M £7.99 ♥ Boots: M&S £49.50 ♥ Jacket: New Look £34.99 ♥ Scarf: H&M £6.99

As Valentines is on weekend this year its a great excuse to go on a special day out, this outfit is fun and flirty while still been practical. This floaty floral skirt is ideal and pairing it with a 3/4 sleeve long line top will keep it warm and stylish, pair with a thick pair of tights or even leggings to keep you even warmer. The boots are a little pricey, but I got them discounted in the black Friday sale last year and I absolutely love them they are so comfy and will be great if you are on your feet all day. Top off with a cute jacket or cosy cute scarf and you’re done.

Outfit Three: Lazy Day

♥ French Kissing PJs: H&M £14.99 ♥ Floral Shorts PJs: BooHoo £8.00 ♥ Hello Kitty Shorts PJs: H&M £12.99 ♥ Checked Nightshirt: New Look £14.99

You’ve been a couple for ages or you’re running low on money and sometimes the best thing is to have a lazy day at home, watch movies do something  together and even order takeaway. The big question is what to wear? Be comfy and casual, loungewear and pjs are the way forward. So if you look above I’ve found a bunch of cute comfy suggestions, so wake up valentines have a shower, complete your morning skincare routine and the slip into a fresh cosy number.

I hope these inspired you and I hope whatever you do you have an amazing day.

Lots of Love,

Gwenllian Branwen
