Lipstick Diaries: A Love Hate Relationship

If you’ve followed my blog or even my Instagram for any period of time you may have noticed I’m not the most adventurous with lipstick, I love swatching an looking at all the beautiful colours but I lack confidence.

So no matter how much I swatch and try I feel completely ridiculous and paranoid wearing lipstick especially if it is out of my neutral comfort zone. There are numerous days I won’t even bother with lipstick just because I find it easier so I have made the decision to work on my feelings towards lipstick. I don’t want to change simply so I can buy and wear more makeup, it’s simply because I want to feel more confident in my own skin. I love makeup and I love playing with it so why does lipstick worry me so much? So even if after all of this even if I still don’t love lipstick as much as other products and I don’t always reach for it I just want to be confident and happy.

So starting this week I am ramping up my makeup and embracing or at least trying to embrace it so wish me luck. I will update this regularly and maybe the end of this year or 2017 for that matter can be the year of the lipstick for me.

Let me know in the comments your tips for feeling confident in makeup and what are your tricks and tips for rocking a bold lip.

Love this post! I know exactly where you’re coming from. I used to be so self-conscious of my mouth so much so I not only didn’t wear any makeup, I’d cover it up whenever I spoke or laugh (still cover when laughing now out of habit lol!). One thing that makes me feel better about myself is my Perfect pout, a device that helps plump your lips up, did a post about it. May be for you! xx

Than Lexi, I think we all get self conscious about something and its amazing you’ve become less so. I’ll take a look at your post for sure as its something i really want to work on, thanks for your advice xx

Good luck on the lipstick journey! I always used to feel this way, I found wearing liquid lipsticks was a really good way to get into more adventurous shades. As they dry and stay in place all day, I wasn’t worrying about what I looked like and just got on with my daily routine. Every so often I’d catch a glimpse of myself and after a while the lipstick becomes normal! Wear those berry tones if you want this season, because they will look great on you!

Thank you so much, its nice to see I’m not the only once who feels this way especially when you always see so many people in bold lips. I think I might experiment with liquid lipstick so they stay put, any particular brands you recommend? One day lipstick will be normal for me haha. xx

If you pop into Superdrug, MUA sell wonderful liquid lipsticks for £3 ranging from nudes to reds to pinks and purples. They stay just as long as my high end ones so if you’re starting out definitely give them a go! Otherwise NYX at boots also do some lovely ones, they do wear away quicker but they feel really lovely on the lips 🙂
