March Favourites

March Favourites 2017

I feel like it was last week I was writing up my February favourites and now it’s time for March Favourites. March has been a good month seeing as I turned 23 this month, another year older and another year wiser. So what have I been loving this month.

As winter turns into spring and it’s not quite so cold in the mornings I have got back into moisturising after my morning shower and I have been loving the Ted Baker Body Lotion. Its rich and moisturising, and soaks into the skin easily so perfect for the mornings as I can let it do its thing while I do my makeup. It also helps that the body lotion has the same scent as the Ted Baker scent I use daily so there’s no conflicting fragrances.

Slightly odd one but I first picked these up on the way to work I notice my nails were badly chipped. The Quickies 20 Nail Varnish Remover Pads, are amazing at removing nail polish quickly and easily. Opposed to standard nail polish removers these are slightly more oil based so I’d recommend a tissue to clean up the excess oils.

As for makeup I’ve got into my eyeshadow again, despite been initially unsold on the Fleur De Force Quad Eye Shadow in 020 Lunar Rose I’ve been enjoying a few of the shades this month to create a pretty everyday look. I then blend this out with the Kiko Milano in 130, which as you can tell is one of my go to products and I felt as though it needed a little appreciation.

Batiste Natural & Light Dry Shampoo

Final favourite is the Batiste Dry Shampoo in Natural & Light Bare, over the years I have found for me that batise is the best dry shampoo but the reason I stopped using it was the overpowering dry shampoo smell that I felt was essentially saying to everyone “hey I haven’t washed my hair. I saw this the other day and love it, it still works great and refreshers hair like all other batiste products without the heavy sent, its light and nothing too much.

What have you been loving this month, let me know in the comments.

Review: PS Micellar Cleasing Water with Rose & Vitamin E

Primark PS Micellar Cleansing Water

Do you think anything will ever make micellar waters go away? From cult beauty to the mainstream micellar waters are everywhere these days, so how do you know which once are worth it or not. In fact I have reviewed a fair few myself. I’m not a micellar water novice I know what I like and what to expect, I often find Garnier products to be the best but if you want to see my verdict on a variety of micellar waters, the previous products I have tried are the following: Garnier SkinActive Oil Infused Micellar Water, No 7 Beautiful Skin Cleansing Water, Boots Botanic All Bright Micellar 3 in 1 Cleansing Solution and a few more not linked here.

But enough of previous products today is the turn of the PS Micellar Water, which I was curious to try with pretty packaging and an affordable price tag I thought it was worth ago. The packaging overall is pretty simple, and I’ve found the lid (flip top) to be pretty secure it stays shut and doesn’t leak not that I was expecting to but it’s a plus. The only issue is I’ve found it hard with the size of the hole in the lid to control how much comes out more so than others with this closure such as the Garnier Micellar water and often end up with too much product, and an absolutely soaked cotton pad so much so that you have to split it between to cotton pads.

PS Micellar Cleasing Water

Now onto the actual makeup removal I have to say it proved to be somewhat or a mixed bag. On face products and eyeshadow, the micellar deals fine, removing it with a simple wipe all over, easy perfect no problems here. The main problem is when it comes to eye makeup, maybe it’s the sheer amount of mascara I put on a daily basis, but it struggles. Even when you hold it the pad on your eye for a good while it doesn’t come off properly and I still have to use an alternative product in order to take my makeup off properly. Which is a bit of shame?

Overall although I think it was worth a try you tend to buy a micellar water as a do it all product and this definitely isn’t that. I’ll make sure to use it, and I think it will be good as a quick pre-makeup cleanse or to take of the worse of my makeup when I get in from work. So save your money and buy a different micellar water, or buy one of the other products Primark offers. Let me know in the comment what micellar waters you’d recommend in the comments.

March Collective Haul

It’s that time again, monthly haul time. With gifts for my birthday I haven’t actually done a huge amount of buying this month just the 6 products included so not much of a haul. Still a little sneak peek coming up and amazingly despite my no buy rule I have purchased two lip products.

Primark: I’m not feeling the Primark clothing this season but I fell head over heels in love with this Winne the Pooh Travel Mug (£3.50), it’s so cute and not too childish. Perfect for morning when I need that second cup of coffee on the way to work, I cannot get enough of this mug. Although right now I have tended to prefer using a brush to apply my foundation at the moment I still love sponges for concealer plus it’s good to have some on hand therefore I picked up the PS 2pk Blender Sponge (£1.50).

ASDA: I am the queen of failing my new year’s resolutions, or Beauty Resolutions for that matter. I definitely did not need another lip product, but I’ve never tried a lip oil before so maybe I can justify it in my head. You may have already see the review though, but this month I brought and tried the George Asda Tint and Pout Tinted Lip Oil (£4.00).

Boots Haul ft NXY and Collection

Boots: Seeing as it was my birthday I decided to treat myself to another NXY Soft Matte Lip Cream I love my other two shades with the vampy Copenhagen and bright San Paulo, I decided I wanted a more natural every day shade. I ended up picking up the NXY Soft Matte Lip Cream in Cannes, I’m testing it out now and if everything goes to plan the full review will be up in the next week or so. I also repurchased again the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in 01 Fair, simply a staple in my makeup collection that I would never be without.

Let me know in the comments what you have picked up recently and what should be on my shopping list.

My Food Journey: Discovering Intolerances

happy_egg_merch_available_by_squishy_feathers-d8xmdku

Sometimes I like to take a break from beauty and share a bit of real life on my blog, in the past I’ve talked about mental health and real life but today I am talking about my journey with intolerance.

Ever since I was little I’ve suffered a lot with intolerances, wishing to make a clear distinction between with intolerances and allergies which people often don’t understand is a clear distinction in severity. Like most people I suffer with hay fever although I tend to start in February as I suffer from it with tree pollen. Cats and dogs always proved to be an issue, and finally I have severe reaction to many bug bites but for years I was always thankful I never had an issue with food items.

That was until last year when I was finally diagnosed with an intolerance to egg, a lesser talked about food allergy yet it’s one of the most common with a must larger percentage of the population suffering from an egg allergy that those who suffer with wheat and/or gluten. Looking back for years I have suffered when eating egg products but tended to treat the symptoms as an off day than to do with anything I had eaten. Since cutting eggs out back in October I feel so much better in myself, and I’m slowly starting to enjoy food again.

The main thing that surprised me was the complete re-education with what I was eating, and I am now hoping continue into the year to eat healthier. Initially I found myself stuck in a little bit of a food rut, as there was so much I couldn’t eat and I didn’t look for alternatives that it was so difficult but I am finally getting there.

The main problem I found with egg was its in so much that you do not realised it in, processed food use egg products as a preservative. Breads, cheeses, yoghurts all surprising can contain egg, so look carefully and forget about deserts, ice cream and cake are obviously off the menu but once again those deserts that shouldn’t often do due to egg wash. It’s just a lot of thought, shopping takes a lot longer, label checking at home and finding vegan alternatives in some cases.

I’ve found myself having preferences for supermarkets, in terms of products they offer mainly Asda and Tesco with Morrison’s been the worse for labelling items. I have become endlessly frustrated with the “free from” sections, but hey you learn to like and look for standard alternatives, although the other day I discovered vegan pesto woohoo! I’m exploring food and alternatives though and the worse than can happen is I don’t like it.

I’ve also been exploring vegan baking, there obviously are normal recipes without egg which have proved to be great staples as my baking has had some interesting results. As my dad has put it I am a great baker, usually, but there has been some questionable recipes to say the least. If you don’t try you’ll never learn but there have been a few baked goods covered in Nutella or custard to make it more palatable.

The one final thing on this journey that I am trying to adapt to is eating out, I’ve felt awkward asking for allergy menu or stick to stuff I’m sure I can eat. Cross contamination is an issue and with egg in sauces and bread, you cannot just guess. It’s definitely more me than the restaurant many have been very accommodating and one place locally had a delicious vegan menu including a chocolate tart so there has been some silver liners. This has really been a huge thing of confidence building and just thinking about what I am eating, no more impulse buying or eating on the go food requires thought and effort. On the odd occasion I have made a mistake, I’ve felt genuinely ill which I was warned about that for a while you can either be more sensitive or you feel the effects more so I’m getting there.

So that’s my food journey the past few months and I know it’s going to be a long term journey but I’m getting there. If you have any good vegan recipes let me know, I’m definitely not vegan but it sure makes it easier to ensure I can eat something.

My Personal Planner 2017-18

personal-planner-2017-18

Who else is slightly obsessed with planners and stationary? I cannot get enough I usually have two planners as well as a to-do list note book for work, is it a little overkill? Maybe but i like to be organised.

Somehow I ended up doing my personal planners March to March but it’s a weird thing that works for me at this time, I mean it doesn’t really matter as long as you find it useful. Last year was my first Personal Planner, you can see an in depth look in my First Impressions or Follow Up Review  post. I thought I would show my new one to show what I chose this time and why.

This time the mood took me for a bit of gold, to add a little bit of sparkle and glam into my life. I really love how this turned out, I’m yet to try and create my own cover but there are such great options on the website I have never truly felt a need to. In terms of inside I went slightly different form last year not going quite as mad with all of the different options available. Compared to my last one which was pink and colourful I definitely went for a much more muted pallet internally opting for blacks and greys, I just often found the colours clashed and now the odd pop of colour can add emphasis opposed to a distraction. Hopefully in future I won’t find it too dull but right now I am loving this more neutral feel for 2017/18. I do wish though a gold/white inside could have been chosen though just having a simple bright white planned may have been super cute as well.

personal-planner-2017-18-page-choices

In terms of module choices I kept some of my choices with whether and dinners remaining put and swapping out a tick list for a straight forward to-do list my weekly pages look similar to last year. The biggest changes was with my additional pages, I still kept my month view I loved using it mainly for a look back on the month it’s a nice summary page and good for forward planning. While at the back I kept it simple removing the year overview as I never used it and option for lined paper, soduku and blank pages. Last time I went for a bit of everything and didn’t necessarily use it so I kept it straight forward this time. Actually the main reason for the blank pages is that I didn’t having a lined back page last time, and I’m so glad it’s perfect and unmarked now.

personal-planner-2017-18-moudle-choices

I’m so happy with how it turned out this time and although slightly pricier than some planners, last year I used my Personal Planner consistently as I got to pick options that worked for me. Other planner in the past I didn’t use as I couldn’t get them to work for me no matter how pretty it was. So if you want a good quality and reasonably priced custom planner I’d really recommend checking out Personal Planner on their website here. Now please excuse me while I fill it up and admire it for a little while.

Review: George Tint N Pout Tinted Lip Oil in Barely There

george-tint-n-pout-lip-oil-in-barely-there

So much for only buying what I need in 2017, I’ve fallen victim to another impulse buy this month. However, I have never tried a lip oil before and while picking up bits for dinner I could not resist buying an everyday lip oil.

The George Tint N Pout Tinted Lip Oil in Barely There, promises to “Nourish & Moisture Lips with Marula Shea Butter” which seemed like a great combination to me as you get the benefit of a light lip colour while adding moisture and keeping your lips hydrated. There are 3 colours within this range 01 Barely There the colour I picked here, while the other two I cannot find the shade names online but there is a brighter coral pink as well as a more berry colour so there is a nice but small collection.

The packaging is simple; the thin black tube is simple but hits the mark it is not too bulky and will fit in most makeup bags it. It’s actually really slim and I can fit this in my purse itself, it is a decent sized purse but it’s nice to know how easily it can fit. The applicator is the standard doe foot applicator, which is my preferred type of applicator for these kind of products as it provides accurate and easy application. So, nothing outstanding for packaging, but it doesn’t need anything more.

In all honestly I wasn’t sure what to expect the mixture of never using a lip oil and with no research and little exploration into the George makeup range, I felt as though I had a perfect blank slate to truly look at the product for what it is. I felt immediately apprehensive upon opening the product, resembling a gloss and seeing glitter I wondered what I had got myself in for despite expecting a more glossy texture the glitter really through me off. I used to love gloss but in reality its sticky, greasy and often unpleasant on the lips for any period of time. Thankfully although the lips look glossy and feel a tiny bit greasy over the course of 5/10 minutes the product dries almost completely. And the glitter? Pretty much non-existence, phew! I was really dreading that. I love the fact the glossiness doesn’t necessarily last and its only a short while of unpleasantness.

As for the colour when you initially put the product on it mainly resembles a clear lip gloss, just emphasising your natural lip colour. As it dries the colour really develops and you end up with a really pink lip, still natural looking but the “barely there” statement is no longer true you become aware and its noticeable that you are wearing a pink lip colour. So if you were looking for nude, this is not it sadly but the colour is nice it’s just not what you’d expect for this product. Your lips become stained with a pretty pink colour, that you don’t have to worry about as the colour will stay all day.

All in all I am glad I tried this, it adds a little bit of moisture to the lips nothing life changing but if you want a no makeup day it’s a little more interesting than lip balm. Its also worth keeping in mind that colour develops over time but all in all its not a bad product.

Let me know what your experience with lip tints or lip oils are and would you recommend them?

Makeup Empties #1

makeup-empties-1

As part of my one in, one out resolution for new year I’ve got rid of my traditional empties and I’m focusing souly on makeup ones. So what have I used up in the past two month in terms of cosmetics.

makeup-empties-1-loreal-paris-ps-pro-primer

I find face products are definitely the ones I go through quickest and I cannot believe I have finished another L’oreal Paris True Match Foundation, it is definitely the best foundation I have ever used. I’ve also finished the PS Pro Primer, and you can check out my review here if you wish. All in all not a bad primer but the squeezy tube really helps maximise what you get out of it. I feel as though I finally finished this before Christmas and it has taken until now to include it in an empties post, still the Nivea Daily Essentials Express Hydration Primer has made it into a lot of empties over the past few years. This is a product I never want to do without in my makeup collection.

makeup-empties-1-nivea-collection

Everyone has their favourite basic brands and Collection is one of my favourites for face essentials for years I have used the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer and Collection Pressed Powder. So the cycle continues as these two have been used up, they have been replaced by themselves within my makeup routine.

Does anyone else keep holding on to out of date and dried up products just because you hate throwing them away? It’s taken over six months but I am finally parting ways with my BareMinreals Flawless Definition Mascara, this was an amazing mascara creating beautiful fluttery lashes with that bit of ompff. I will consider repurchasing in the future but the Revlon All-In-One Ultimate mascara is proving to be an approximate dupe and its cheaper so I will see how it goes.

makeup-empties-1-bareminerals-benefit

Finally, I have finished my Benefit Gimmie Brow sample, initially I was madly in love with this product I’d had my brows done at a Benefit Brow Bar and I used this daily afterword’s thinking wow my brows looked amazing. I then switch to a brow pencil and realised it wasn’t the Gimmie Brow that was good, it was my new brow shape I tend to have thick brows so the fibres are pretty much redundant for me. I think I’ll save my money and leave this for everyone else.

Let me know if you prefer this style empties just focusing on makeup, I feel like the reviews might be more valuable than endless shower gel ect with only the occasional makeup item. I’d appreciate the feedback so be sure to let me know.
