April Favourites

April Favourites

Favourites time! Insert quick month typical monthly favourite beauty blogger introduction here, okay is that done it is time to talk about the products.

April Favourites Ft The Body Shop

Let’s start this month with a fragrance, and this time I have been loving the The Body Shop Vanilla Eau De Toilette, with a simple warm vanilla scent I have been loving the simplicity this month and it’s nice to change things up. I just thoroughly enjoyed stripping back the scents I use and this is perfect, plus I have always been obsessed with vanilla in every single way. Carrying on with the Body Shop trend after birthday goodies and my haul earlier this month I have been going Body Shop crazy. I have been really loving the The Body Shop Fuji Green Tea Sorbet, is my first time using a body sorbet and I love the gel like texture it’s so hydrating and doesn’t feel thick or heavy on the skin. I feel as though this would be refreshing in summer when you are burnt or hot and sticky.

April Favourites Ft NXY & Collection

As for makeup this month I haven’t really mixed things up that much, after doing my product testing I just kept on using the NXY Soft Matte Lip Cream in Cannes which you can find the full review for here. Although I do find the lasting power disappointing compared to other NXY Lip Creams I have owned I am obsessed with the colour so I am just putting up with the reapplication for now. Once again keeping this month short and sweet with only 4 products but I promise these will start to get longer again from next week. This finally favourite I feel is a little underappreciated but I’ve used it daily the past couple of months and I cannot do my makeup now without the Collection Primed & Ready Invisible Setting Powder. I’m definitely more of a pressed powder girl and this one is translucent so just sets rather than impacting my colour or balance I have set up, I also love that this has tea tree in it (not that is smells tea tree heavy), so I feel as though it is better for my skin.

What have you been loving this month, let me know in the comments below.

Review: Superdrug Colour Effects in Warm Chocolate Brown

Superdrug Colour Effects in Warm Chocolate Brown

Does anyone else the good old days of shaders and toners? I used to love them temporary and subtle colour that left your hair feeling, soft and shiny. There’s been nothing like in on the market since unitl the Superdrug Colour Effects range launched a few months ago, all natural tones which is perfect if you want a colour refresh that isn’t out there. I recently picked up the Ice Blonde for my mum, and for myself the one I am reviewing here is the Superdrug Colour Effects in Warm Chocolate Brown.

This range promises to: “Wash in wash out Colour Effects Honey Blonde conditioning colour adds gentle golden tones to blonde hair. Use on natural hair for subtle tones or on coloured hair to boost colour and prevent fading. This easy to use formula doesn’t damage your hair and leaves it in great condition.”

There are two ways of using this, and I will admit within this review I have only tried the traditional method for now. And I forgot to take a before shot because lets be blunt I’m a dumbass. If you wish to develop a stronger colour you can apply to dry hair and then wash out, I took the toning route washing my hair normally before applying. I squeezed a small about on my hand applying it in small sections at a time, making sure everything had an even coat which worked best for me due to having thick long hair. I was apprehensive at first as it the product is very coppery and I was concerned I would end up ginger, and red colour just seems to stick to my hair. Anyway I worked it in from bottom to top and then set my phone timer for 5 minutes. When it came to washing it out, it didn’t seem to talk too long for the water to run clear it is just making sure it all comes out.

Now as for the colour change I cannot say that there is a huge difference, maybe after a few uses or applying to dry hair you may notice a change but it is meant to be subtle. My natural blonde streaks have definitely been toned to a light brown but other than my overall hair has not changed. The biggest change is how my hair feels, it’s just silky, smooth and amazing so if you want a little toning and soft silky hair I’d definitely pick this up.

I will do an update when I try the alternative method, however I feel like it offers a little colour change but it nothing else it’s a good hair mask so weigh up what you want. The product costs £1.99, but it is currently on offer for buy one get one free where I picked up a blonde one for my mum. So essentially at the time of posting it is essentially £1.00 a throw which is good value for money if you ask me.

Let me know if you have tried one of the Superdrug Colour Effects and how you found it in the comments? What is the pay off if you apply it dry.

The Body Shop Sales Haul

Body Shop Sales Haul

The other weekend I was in bed ill with a sinus infection when I got a text from The Body Shop sharing the fact the 40% code was out getting you 40% off everything including sale items. Although I love The Body Shop I always try to save money and stock up when this deal/code is about as the saving are insane and I like to pick up a mix of items. I don’t think the sale is still on, as it has taken me a while to photograph and get the post up along with working around what I had already planned. I’m always impressed with The Body Shop, I ordered on Sunday 2nd April and the box arrived on my desk Tuesday 4th. Just emphasising my laziness in taking a week to get this up, still its nice to share my goodies.

April 2017 Sales Hail - Body Shop

I’ve paired these into what I have to say is fairly obvious pairings, first up is one of my favourite scents simply because it is so refreshing the Fuji Green Tea. As when you love any scent you have to get the shower gel, although nothing special I do love the scents they offer and always pick them up when on offer. I am so excited to use the Fuji Green Tea Shower Gel (£6.00 £3.50 £2.10), in the mornings. Then also from the Green Tea range I decided I wanted to try the Fuji Green Tea Body Sorbet (£8.50 £4.50 £2.70), I’ve never tried the Body Sorbets but they always feel cool and refreshing perfect for the summer.

In all my years of using the Body Shop I have always smelt but never used the peach range I thought it was time to change this, obviously starting again with the strong staple of Vineyard Peach Shower Gel (£5.00 £3.50 £2.10). Then I also picked up, what I am counting as an essential as I haven’t had a body scrub in a few months but I have a good feeling about the Vineyard Peah Body Scrub (£15.00 £7.50 £4.50). It smells so tasty.

The Body Shope Blueberry Body Butter & Camomile Cleansing Butter

Every sale I seem to pick up the Blueberry Body Butter (£15.00 £7.50 £4.50), I have one on the go right now but its my favourite scent so I feel like I might as well always have a back up available to me. Finally my last item, was full price before the 40% discount. However, I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter (£10.00 £6.00), and its about time I tried a cleansing balm/butter so I will be sure to post a review shortly.

If all items were the full retail price it would of cost me a whopping £59.50, if it was just sale price with one full price item it would have been £36.50 but instead it only cost £21.90. That’s roughly £3.65 a product and a saving of 63% which I cannot complain about. I seriously recommend you sign up to the newsletter so you are notified when these codes are about as the savings are insane and happen a few times a year. What do you love from The Body Shop let me know in the comments.

What’s in My Bag: Kate Spade Leighann Laurel Way Bag

Kate Spade Whats in My Bag

Woohoo it’s time to show off my favourite Birthday present my Kate Spade Leighann Laurel Way bag. I’ve wanted a nice bag and especially a Kate Spade bag for years but it took me 3-4 years to make a commitment. Just before my birthday me and my mum went to Bicester Outlet Village and I fell in love with the Kate Spade Laurel Way bag. Its smart, great for everyday and business, robust leather that won’t mark and has plenty of compartments and space basically everything I wanted in a bag.

I’m not great at describing bags, but hey why not just enjoy the pretty pictures.

So enough of my bag what did I decide to stuff it with? As well as internal pockets, the bag has two big zipped pockets at the front and back of the bag, these are great for keeping items secure and dry. I fit my Personal Planner with a pen in my front pocket, so I can make lists, keep on top of plans and just generally feeling organised I take my planner absolutely everywhere. In the mirror pocket of this at the bag of my bag, I store a large reusable tote which is now essential with having to pay for any plastic bag in the UK plus it can hold loads so it’s ideal if I need to pick up a few things after work or a few things unexpectedly.

What's In My Bag - Personal Planner

What's in My Bag - Lipsticks

Continuing with pockets, there are 3 internal pocks two which are just open very large phone pocks and one zip pocket for those items that you need to be more secure. In my open pockets I stock easy to grab essentials usually my phone, a packet of tissues and the rather none essential items are my 3 lip products. At the moment I am love a slightly more natural toned lip colour so I am switching between the PS Pro Rich Colour Lipstick in 03 Boudoir Pink, the NXY Soft Matte Lip Cream in Cannes and George Tint N Pout Lip Oil in 01. At present the zip up pocket only has headphones in it maybe one day I will have something important to carry around.

Finally at present there isn’t too much in the main compartment of my bag, I’m trying not to fill it with junk really. I suppose 6 months down the line it will be filled with trash but I always carry my little bag of essentials which I have covered in previous What’s in My Bag posts (https://gwenblogseverything.wordpress.com/category/life-2/whats-in-my-bag-life-3/) , and it doesn’t really change so I always have everything on hand and easy to grab. Finally I have the essentials such as my keys, purse and of course a bar of Dairy Milk Hazelnut which I picked up that day as a much needed chocolate fix.

Let me know in the comments what’s your in bag essentials in the comments.

Review: Soft Matte Lip Cream in Cannes

NXY Soft Matte Lip Cream in Cannes

From 12 months ago never really using a NXY product to becoming pretty certain that at some point my entire lip collection may become NXY products, is insane. The big part of this is the fact NXY launched in Boots during the summer of 2016 before making it a much more accessible brand in the UK. I am yet to try any other products in the NXY line but this is my third NXY Soft Matter Lip Cream.

This time I selected a more natural colour, the others I have are very different you can see my reviews for the other two on my blog. I’ve previously tried the deep red/ vampy shade Copenhagen as well as a bright-ish pink called San Paulo. This time I picked up a natural but deep-ish shade, so carry on if you wish to find out how I got on with the NXY Soft Matte Lip Cream in Cannes.

I have to say until now I never understood why people complained about the Soft Matte Lip Creams the previous two I have had are absolutely amazing this one left me wanting more really. Although more comfortable on the lips than Copenhagen and San Paulo, the staying power really isn’t there. Within hours the colour is patchy and faded and this occurs even when I am not eating or drinking, where the others last with minimal wear on the lips. I found myself reapplying every two hours and it is simply a pain compared to the others. Fortunately with these been a more natural colour, and the staining properties I have found that it probably doesn’t look quite as bad as some of the others when it fades.

NXY Soft Matte Lip Cream Lip Swatch

The lesson learnt here is to simply that this line is clearly hit or miss, I’ve had two excellent ones, while Cannes has proved to be so-so. The product is not necessarily bad but compared to what I know this line can be I am disappointed. This is simply a case of checking out reviews and reading about before had to check how these once compares.
