2014 Favourites

So this year I started this blog back in June 2014 and its weird its all coming to an end, I’m on the verge of exams and entering my final semester at university, its been a different 12 months. I’ve also grown to love the beauty/blogging community so thanks to all of you. So I thought I’d look back on all of my favourite products of 2014.

Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette: I got this back in October as a two year anniversary present from my boyfriend, I have pretty much used this every day since getting it as it great for day time and more glam looks and is a beautifully shaded although I’m aware with the pink tones aren’t for everyone but the quality of these shadows compared to the dupes its totally worth the splurge. Although in regards to the Urban Decay vs cheap dupes if you use it daily and its within your means then by all means splurge, if you cannot afford them or won’t use them very regularly then go for the dupe.

Urban Decay Primer Potion: After trying samples I fell in love with eyeshadow primers after the Soap and Glory one was such a dud. Major staying power and no creases its simply perfect.

MUA Heaven and Earth Palette: Up until mid October and getting my Naked 3 this was my daily palette and it still gets used frequently as both are fairly different types of nude. A beautiful range of creamy blendable eyeshadows where you can easily take a look from day to night, super budget friendly too.

Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation: Why I had waited so long to try this foundation I have no idea because it is amazing, it has the perfect amount of coverages with a radiant dewy finish. Another little bonus is that they do proper pale girl shades which not enough brands do.

Tanya Burr Nail Varnish in Penguin Chic: I haven’t tried much of the products launched my youtubers this year as not all have interested me I love Tanya Burr but here cosmetic line was never anything I was interested in. One day I saw this on a stand in Superdrug and fell in love with it immediately, the rest is history as its semi neutral and works well a large majority of the year and for a lot of occasions.

Aussie Miracle Recharge Shine Leave in Conditioner: I’ve been trying to find a great non heavy leave in conditioner and earlier this year I finally found one, its just amazing and has done wonders for my hair. You can check out my full review of this here.

The Body Shop Passionfruit Body Butter: Okay I love all of the Body Shop’s Body Butters but this is by far my favourite scent of the all. I adore everything passion fruit and it lasts ages however, I have ordered a blueberry body butter now which I’m excited to try out too.

So what were your favourite products of 2014 and did you find any holy grail products this year?

Mid-Monthly Favourites

At the end of December I’m considering doing a yearly favourites or my top products of the year and seeing as I haven’t done a November favourites and I’ve finally had to spend a day writing a shit ton of blog posts to see me over this busy period. So enjoy . . .

First up in my favourites are my new fairy lights which have helped create this beautifully relaxing and calming space I can come to after a hard day working/at lectures/at the library. Plus they were only £2.00 from Asda so I couldn’t really loose. In addition to that I’m loving burning a candle at the moment just making the room smell amazing the one I have as my go to is a vanilla one I got from Wilkinsons for £2.00, vanilla is just a great scent for any occasion.

Just two beauty favourites this month as most of what I’ve been using is the same old stuff the I always go two and are more likely to feature in my best of the year post coming up at the end of this month.

First up is something my friend introduced me to when we went to town its the Collection Illuminating Touch Brightening Concealer, this is amazing for covering up dark circles and tired eyes I don’t know how I lived without it. Now I never look drained ever again. Then I have the L’oreal Paris Color Riche in Doutzen’s Nude (also known as hint of pink), its such a moisturising hint of shine lipstick and perfect for a low maintenance look.

I rarely talk about fashion and it’s so damn hard to get a picture but here are some fashion favourites. My first fashion favourite is oversized checked shirts however, I own none my boyfriend owns a crazy amount so I wear his we have the same tastes and they are so comfy. It is so much easier to find the perfect oversized fit with mens clothing then in the womens department. A checked shirt paired with wet look leggings has started to become a staple look after picking up some in the black friday/weekend offer with boohoo, they are such a good quality pair considering how cheap they were and are actually fairly warm.

I also love this fluffy reindeer snood that I brought from work for the whole sale price as my manager is just that lovely. It is essentially so warm and comfy and perfect for this season. There were loads of other colours but I opted for the grey scale one as it just essentially goes with absolutely everything.

And finally my favourite person is my amazing boyfriend, who has put up with so many mood swings and a very stressed me while coping with final year deadlines and balancing everything. He has just taken everything in his stride, helping me calm down and take a step back.

What are your current favourites?

October Favourites

It’s that time of the month again . . . monthly favourites time. October has been a good month I’m back at work, back to university and me and my boyfriend celebrated our two year anniversary so all and all a pretty good month and these are the things I have been loving this month.

Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette: I got this as a gift from my boyfriend and I’m so happy with it I have literally used it pretty much everyday. This isn’t a colour I don’t love and you can create so many looks with this palette. I also feel as though it has the right mixture of mattes and shimmery shades so its so versatile. Also I feel like its different to other neutral palettes due to its more pinky tones and its just simply beautiful, I also love they fact in this palette everything goes together its just perfect.

Urban Decay Primer Potions: I got all 4 primer potion samples with my urban decay palette and each sample has a weeks worth in it. They are amazing with such lasting power and prevent creasing I just love them especially when they are comparable in price to soap and glory per ml. Also Sin and Eden are such lovely shades you can get away with wearing them on there own for a lazy subtle wash of colour. I loved the samples so much I bought the travel sized packet of the original.

L’Oreal Paris Color Riche in 255 Blush in Plum: I picked this up on a spur of the moment trip to Superdrug but this range of lipsticks are often linked to the YSL Lipsticks that I love as they give a wash of colour but aren’t really full on so you don’t have to worry about it. I think I’ve worn it pretty much every day.

Adapt by Tim Hartford: As an economics student I love Tim Harford especially his other book the undercover economist. I’m not sure how to describe it so if you’re curious about what its about here’s the blurb.

When faced with complex problems, we have all become accustomed to looking to our leaders to set out a grand vision, experts to draw up a detailed plan of action, or gurus who can provide us with some infallible solution.

In this groundbreaking book, Tim Harford shows us a new and inspiring approach to solving the most pressing problems in our lives. Harford argues that today’s challenges simply cannot be tackled with ready-made solutions and expert opinions; the world has become far too unpredictable and profoundly complex. Instead, we must adapt—improvise rather than plan, work from the bottom up rather than the top down, and take baby steps rather than great leaps forward. Drawing from research across disciplines—psychology, evolutionary biology, anthropology, physics, mathematics, political science, and economics—and interviews with some of the world’s most pioneering leaders, thinkers, and strategists, Harford reveals hard-won lessons learned in the field and the importance of adaptive, trial-and-error processes in tackling issues such as fostering innovation, climate change, poverty, the financial crises, and conflict.

From a spaceport in the Mojave Desert, to the street battles of Iraq, to a blazing offshore drilling rig, to everyday decisions in our business and personal lives, this is a handbook for surviving—and prospering—in our complex and ever-shifting world.

It’s a fairly compact favourites this month as I’m either using the same old stuff or other bits that I haven’t been using long enough to constitute it being a monthly favourite yet. So what have you been loving this month?

September Favourites

SeptemberSo its officially the start of October and that means it time for a look back at all of my September favourites. I honestly cannot believe how fast September went and that I’m now back at University fully into the swing of starting third year.

Vanilla Sugar Scented Tin Candle is one of my all time favourite candle scents its one of those soothing can’t go wrong candles that are great for every time of year and occasion. This one I brought from Matalan and I think the tin is so pretty and it is so inexpensive its great to have in my room at university plus after I can reuse the tin. Available from Matalan here.

Mark Hill De Frizz Shine Protect & Control Spray I picked this bottle up in a pound shop earlier in the year and since discovered it is no longer available. It’s essentially the perfect do it all spray: fizz prevention; heat defence and flexible loose hold its the perfect go to item plus it smell amazing.

Body Shop Shimmer Cubes in 06 Warm as you all know I love my neutrals but these are so pretty and after neglecting them for a few months now I rediscovered them in September and have pretty much used them everyday. Available from Body Shop here.

Nail Paint by Barry M in Ruby Glitter, I’ve literally put this over the top of so many other nail varnishes this month as I love it so much its just insanely pretty and I think it will be great in December for christmas and Christmas parties I may do a nail of the day with it some time soon. Available at boots and superdug.

Peanut Butter M&Ms, we sell these where I work and I am now obsessed think Peanut M&Ms but better unfortunatley as they are american sweets they cost an arm and a leg but well worth trying out.

Day 91: August Favourites

So August really did fly by and I am making a start of setting up doing monthly favourites. I was gong to start monthly favourites last month but as I was barely home and wasn’t using much beauty or anything.

MUA’s Heaven and Earth Eyeshadow Palette

This was one of the two palettes I took to Cornwall with me but it is the only one I used when I was always and since it is such a lovely subtle and diverse palette. From a simple was of colour to smoky eyes. I live for neutral eyes and I am so glad to have this as part of my make up collection.

Halo Eye Make Up Remover Pads

I brought these for weekends away and got loads of use out of them. This month I have been really loving them for doing make up or make up touch ups on the go to wipe brushes or my hands ect. They effortlessly remove eye make up and are soft and gentle on the rest of your face, I just love them and I think I might keep buying them to keep in my bag.

Foot Pack Intensive Rejuvenation

I love these moisturising booties. After coming back from France my feet were so dry and cracked after a few weeks of wearing sandals and flip flops. These were my life saves and my feet are slowly getting back to normal and lovely again. Well worth picking up and they are so cheap.

Rimmel London Apocalips in Nova

I finally embraced the bold lips and wore this most of this month, its such a beautiful summery shade and I cannot get enough of it. Another bonus is that it stays put, for a bit more about this lip gloss with swatches and my verdict check out my review here.

So this is a brief look at why I have been loving this month, what have you been loving recently?
