My Car Useful Bits Bag

Today I thought I would do a slightly different ‘what’s in my bag’ post although you can check out my previous what’s in my bag posts here. I don’t know about anyone else but in my glove box I have a little makeup bag filled with all the useful bits that could be in your car although they aren’t essential, I am however so grateful for this little bag as it’s proved so useful and maybe this will inspire you to do this yourself.

Pretty much all of my essentials stay in this small Revlon makeup bag which I feel as though I have had for ages, it’s the perfect size for my glove box and helps keep everything together in case I need it. First up is my favourite item in here my Hello Kitty Plasters Tin, which still has the hello kitty plasters in it. My mum picked it up super cheap as a jokey gift but its practical to keep them in the tin and I kind of love them, you know people are jealous when I rock my hello kitty bandaged finger. It’s also great for shoes that rub etc. and as I nearly always forget to restock the ones in my handbag it’s handy to keep some in the car. Another must is tissues, the ones I have are just from Superdrug and are handy for anything I always have tissues in my bag anyway but they are handy for passengers or just in case I run out.

Always wanted but never to hand, I always make sure I have some sort of pain killer in my car, I currently have Ibuprofen. Just a handy thing to have really and my friends are always grateful. Finally in my little bag is some Anti-Bacterial Hand Gel, I love this stuff and always keep some in my bag, desk and dressing table and the car is another useful place. Whether you need to freshen up or want to eat on the go hand gel is great for ensuring your hands are clean and fresh.

The things that couldn’t fit into my bag but thought were worth mentioning are Primark’s Sunglasses a much needed essential all year round, and possibly more so in winter with the bright sun, frost and glare. These however, stay at the driver’s side so they are within easy reach at all times. Also simply because it is so big, I have some Pampers Natural Clean Baby Wipes, perfect for cleaning your hands, clearing up messes and even to freshen up if needs be. The baby wipes either stay in the glove box or occasionally move to a door compartment in the bag of the car.

So that’s what’s in my little car bag, let me know if you want to see more of these of my little useful kit bags that I keep in various places as these are so useful to have and create. What essentials or useful bits do you keep in your car, let me know in the comments.

April Favourites

Where on earth did April go when we are back to this already? Anyway lets get to it with what i have been loving in April.

April Favourites

I had a love hate relationship with the old formula but I am head over heels in love with the L’Oreal Paris True Match Foundation in Rose Ivory. The old formula used to go patchy and weird if I was suffering from dry skin, this one is thinner without compromising on the coverage but is more hydrating and sits nicer on the face. I use a sponge to apply and it just evens me out, the colour is also perfect for me.

My Fragrance of the month has been The Body Shop Madagascan Vanilla Flower Perfume Oil, the oil based texture took a little getting used to but the scent lasted all day. It’s a sweet subtle vanilla scent and is subtle in notes. So I smell nice all day but it isn’t overpowering, so glad to get this as a birthday gift as I never would of picked it up otherwise.

I am finally back into painting my nails and my favourite this month has been Barry M Aquarium Collection Nail Paint in Caspian, not necessarily a colour for this time of year but with its duo-chrome colour it is so damn pretty.

I don’t know if it is weird to have a anti-bacterial gel as a favourite but I absolutely the Cuticura Candy Apple Hand Gel. I don’t like the hand gels that smell really alcoholic and this one is perfect, it just smells like sugary candy fruit sweets. One final honourable mention to my Tangle Teezer, I took it on holiday and I am back to using it daily and I am so glad I am. Best hairbrush ever.

So that is what I loved over the course of April, what have you been loving? Let me know in the comments below

Current Skincare Routine

So New Year and I want to create a new and improved skincare routine but I have no idea where to start. So logically I thought I would share my current routine and then I can take on any suggestions. January seems to be a month of skincare on Tuesday with the next two weeks having detailed reviews of items which appear in this routine.

It has taken me forever to make a skincare routine and the most important things for me is that it works and it’s simple. Before I started blogging and exploring skincare properly, my routine was nothing more than splashing water on my face in the morning and removing my makeup with a wipe. Over time my routine has semi evolved to what it is now, definitely manageable but there is definitely room for improvement.

So my skincare can really be split into 4 times of the day, although they obviously sometimes pair up depending on what I am doing all four parts are done daily. So I’ve split my routine into what I do when I wake up, before I put makeup on, when I get in and before bed which I think is the most appropriate way to split it up.

waking up

This used to be the part where I used to splash my face with water and that was it but I’ve finally stuck to washing my face daily in the morning, a step I’d skip due to sheer laziness. I used to swap between a normal face wash and an exfoliating one but I’d often end up skipping the exfoliating one out of sheer forgetfulness or sometimes find them too harsh. The Nivea Daily Essentials Gentle Cleansing Cream Face Wash is a dream come true as it cleanses but still leaves your face feeling clean and hydrated, and I often use this alongside the P.S. Love Facial Pad. It’s the perfect combination although I will refrain from saying too much about the pad as I am posting the review of it in two weeks’ time (ooo the suspense). Once I’m done in the shower I apply my Superdrug Deep Action Anti-Blemish Gel and then sometime moisturise it depends what else I am doing that day, if I’m not applying makeup or my skin feels especially dry.

before makeup

On a work morning (a.k.a weekdays) the time between my wake up section and before makeup is the time to make a cup of coffee and starting a youtube video on my phone. I don’t know if it is just me but I love having a ‘beauty guru’ video going while I do my makeup even if it’s completely irrelevant or I’m not following it. The most important step of doing makeup is to have a completely clean face, and hands for that matter. So in order to prep my face for makeup I use a cleansing water or a face wipe depending what is to hand, its more to freshen up and make sure I have a good base. At the moment I have either been using the No 7 Beautiful Skin Cleansing Water with a cotton wool pad or Pure Deep Cleanse Wipes, depends on either mood or what is to hand. Also as part of my skincare I always use a hand gel before makeup application especially as you may use your hands for products, better safe than sorry.

Getting in

I can never be bothered to do a full cleanse when I get in, but so I don’t sit all night in my makeup especially if I’m not doing anything seems pointless. The most important thing here is quick and effective removal, and I always reach for a micellar water so once again I reach for the No 7 Beautiful Skin Cleansing Water. Cleansing and Micellar water have transformed my routine as I know that they completely remove every scrap of makeup I’m wearing and I’m good to go. If I’m feeling super lazy, or I get in super late I will whip out a face wipe, it’s not ideal but it’s better than sleeping in making or rubbing it all around your face.

bed time

Before bed is where make sure I have a more ordered routine and it’s still a refreshing change for me as it used to be as long as my makeup was off I thought I was fine. Depending on how my skin is doing (most my skin issues are time of the month related) I will wash my face again with the Nivea Daily Essentials Gentle Cleansing Cream Face Wash or sometimes just water just to freshen up but it depends what I truly feel like. Then the proper cleanser and toner using the Boots Essentials Cucumber Cleansing Lotion and Facial Toner with a cotton pad more which 1) makes my skin smell fresh and amazing and 2) makes sure my skin is thoroughly clean. Finally I use a night cream to keep my skin hydrated and ready for morning and I love using nivea products, in this case the Nivea Daily Essentials Regenerating Night Cream. As this is a relatively heavy product sometimes I put it on focus areas and other times I put it all over. Finishing off with a little eye cream once again from the Boots Essential Cucumber range, it’s the Boots Essentials Cucumber Eye Gel.

Other Bits

Eye Patches: Botanical Choice Dark Circle Reducer Sunflower Eye Patches

Current Face Mask: Soap and Glory The Fab Pore 2-in-1 Facial Mask and Peel Review Here.

So that’s my current skin care routine, super simple and straight forward with a limited amount of products. I do want to improve it though so I would be grateful for any suggestions be it products or steps as I feel as though I would like a better routine. I have normal to dry skin and prefer to use sensitive product, so if you have anything let me know what you think are really good skin care products.

Empties #9

empties #9

After having such a huge empties last time where I simply spent most of the time running up to creating the post, thinking this is almost done I’ll wait. Then it just seems to add up as I don’t do it monthly I just wait until I consider I have enough. So here we go again, I’m always going to be obsessed with empties posts as I feel as though people can give the best quality reviews once they’ve finished a product and repurchasability (I’m making up words again) of a product is a definite strong recommendation.

Benefit Roller Lash (sample size): I got this back with Elle in I think February, and I saved it for travelling and finally finished it. I have to say it takes a while to get the technique and if I put the effort to use it right my lashes look absolutely amazing otherwise they just look normal. I have manage to find mascaras that work very similar such as the Primark Curl and Lift Mascara, the Benefit is superior but I’m on a budget and I cannot justify the cost of the mascara. Would I repurchase: maybe, if it was on a good offer.

empties ft superdrug Morrison’s Pure Cotton Wool Pads: I’m not sure what to say, these are decent cotton wool pads especially for a low price point. They don’t break up when taking off nail varnish, the only thing is they aren’t as soft as I would have liked feeling fairly abrasive on the skin when using a cleanser or toner. Would I repurchase: I don’t see why not.

Boots Cotton Wool Double Faced Round Pads: These are by far my favourite cotton pads I have ever used, with one padded side which is gentle and good for cleansers etc. While the other side have an exfoliating texture, great for a deeper clean with a toner of micellar water to take off makeup Would I repurchase: yes.

Tesco Everyday Value Facial Wipes: I’ve mentioned these in empties before, my favourite face wipes as they are the best at removing makeup or correcting mistakes yet they are so cheap. I don’t use them for makeup removal that often but recommend having them in your stash just in case. Would I repurchase: Always.

empties ft tesco & morrisons

TRESemme Heat Defence Spray (Travel Size): I did consider refilling this but the spay mechanism is so-so, so I’m more likely to find a new spray bottle and the pour some out from my regular sized bottle. The heat defence spray itself though is amazing and I will never go without it, thus the travel size and it’s great to have a decent sized thing to travel with as it lasts a good while. Would I repurchase: yes, for full size and travel size.

Superdrug Cocoa Brownie for Brunettes Dry Shampoo: Sometimes the white marks with dry shampoo can be really annoying, so I thought I’d buy a dry shampoo aimed at brunettes as I didn’t find colab did anything for me when I tried it. I did actually like this, it didn’t work as well as batiste but it did soak up the grease/oils and refreshed my hair. It is especially useful on days where you need to do your hair 5 minutes before leaving the house as you don’t have to work it in properly. Would I repurchase: possibly.

Elizabeth Arden Pretty (Travel Size): I’m slowly using these up one empties at a time, although at present I am planning to keep the bottles as I think they are so cute and I think I will keep them to display once I get a proper vanity. I never know how to describe the smell of this one it’s just floral and girly, although the official description calls it a ‘Fresh Floral Fragrance’. Would I repurchase: Possibly, a lovely scent but there are definitely ones I prefer.

empties tf primark

Halo Hand Wipes: I brought these for Slam Dunk way back in may for keeping hands clean and hygiene reasons. I then forgot about them for a bit preferring to have anti-bac hand gel in my bag, when I found them I used the remaining ones to clean my hands when apply makeup and tidying everything. They do the job, but tbh for makeup removal and tidying just use a normal facial wipe. Would I repurchase: great for festivals but otherwise I wouldn’t bother.

Vaseline Derma Beauty Deodorant: I’ve never tried a Vaseline deodorant before but it was on offer and I felt as though I didn’t have anything to lose by trying it. It smells nice and works well, I don’t really feel as though there is much to say about a deodorant past the point of it works well and smells nice. Would I repurchase: probably, I’m not too fussy with deodorant.

Cuticura Primark Exclusive Sparking Fruits Hand Gel: I love non sterile smelling hand gels, I don’t know why but I just prefer it, when I saw this I just couldn’t resist and I’ve liked the previous cuticura hand gels that I have tried before. It smells like a delicious fruit cocktail. Would I repurchase: yes.

Superdrug Nail Polish Remover Acetone Free: I’m super unfussy with nail varnish if it does the job I like it, slight downside of the acetone free one is that it can take that bit longer to remove nail varnish. All in all not bad, not great but not bad. Would I repurchase: I wouldn’t rule it out.

There you go another empties, I’m getting so much more determined to use things up by doing empties posts rather than having several items on the go at once. Although I will try to use stuff up no matter how much I like something as I try to make it work, or pass it on.

Unsung Beauty Heros

unsung beauty heros

These are fairly common in which people talk about all of the stuff people rarely talk about but are amazing products, so I thought I’d tell you mine. All of these are all things we’ve heard about before where we hear how celebrities apparently use them and we’re never sure if they do. So today I thought I’d tell you about the ‘mundane’ product which I feel as though are essential to my makeup/beauty routine.

Sudocrem

A nappy rash cream to most this is essential in my house, when we were younger my mum would use it on burns, bad cuts etc. due to its antiseptic properties. So it is a great product to have in your first aid kit as it treats practically everything, just read the side of the tub if you aren’t sure. My main use for it is dry skin, I get horribly dry and cracked elbows. Sudocream is the only thing that doesn’t make them sting and the anti-septic nature will do them some good and really hydrates and treats the dry skin.

Some people sware on using Sudocream for treating acne and spots, which it even names on the side of the tub. I have tried it once or twice but as I am so inconsistent using it once one day and then not again for weeks I was never going to change anything.

Bepanthen

Similar to Sudocream, Bepanthen is traditional a nappy cream, thick and moisturising. After first getting this for healing my tattoo it is a great product, aiding the heeling of skin and deeply moisturising. I use this on dry skin as well as sudocream as sometimes it just depends what is to hand.

Bio-Oil

On the slightly more expensive side of these products, although none are that expensive bio oil is meant to be one of those miracle oils. It is meant to fix scars, stretch marks, uneven skin tone, aging skin and dehydration. At this point I have only used it to remove stretch marks caused by puberty and to get rid of scars, I have to says with persistent use (it still works sporadically it just takes much longer) it really does reduce the appearance of scars. I would say that it removed them completely but I know results might vary and to some they might still be visible, but I doubt they would be noticeable to anyone who didn’t know they were there.

Baby Oil

Sadly I don’t currently have a baby oil but in due time I probably will, my main uses of baby oil are shaving related. First and foremost you can use it to ‘dry shave’, don’t have time to re-shower but need to shave your legs just slather them up with baby oil and go. It leaves your legs beautiful by feeling silky and smoothly shaved, also they smell absolutely amazing. Also if you don’t have any nude tights but want beautiful looking leg just use a touch a baby oil for lovely looking legs with a slight dewy look.

Other uses that I haven’t personally tried include a cleanser/makeup remover, I keep thinking of trying this but I don’t like the oily feeling on my face. They can also be used to clean makeup brushes but I’m happy with baby shampoo but I will totally use this method in future.

Anti-bacterial Hand Gel

To me this is essential with makeup application, there could be any number of germs on your hands or and number of oils on your face, so before and after each time I use my hands I just use a bit of hand gel. It is even more important if you are touching up on the go, god knows what you’ve come into contact with over the course of the day.

Facial Wipes/Baby Wipes

Baby wipe or facial wipes are always great, whether to fix mistakes or wipe your hands clean they are a great staple. You can also use them for makeup removal, maybe not the best method but it’s not a bad way to go. I always like to take my makeup off as soon as I get in from work but sometimes I am feeling way too lazy I simply grab a wipe and use that. I tend to come back later to do a proper routine but they are so nifty. Don’t bother with anything expensive, any baby wipes or facial wipes will do my favourite are Tesco everyday value wipes.

So what are your less talked about beauty favourites? What unassuming product could you not live without?

Whats in My Bag?: Festival Edition / Festival Essentials

festival essentials

So this weekend I went to Slam Dunk South Festival to have an amazing day seeing bands and celebrate the end of the year/graduating. So I thought I would do a little bit of what is in my festival bag and festival essentials, although this is slightly different as it is a one day festival the essentials are different. I’m also writing this after because I usually carry crap I don’t need so I’ll show you exactly what I took taking into account what I used and what I didn’t.

First and foremost lets consider the essentials that are needed. The most important thing is Sunblock, I picked up Lacura Suncare Extra Sensitive Sun Spray SPF 50+ form aldi which is a 50+ sunblock, I know ideally you should reapply throughout the day but I knew I would not end up doing so and I don’t have the space in my tiny bag. The 50+ should last more of the day, remember be safe and choose a high factor sunblock. Also check it has UVA, UVB and that it is water resistant if you want more information about checking the best sunblock check out some advice here. However it was clouded over and drizzled a lot of the day, regardless any exposed areas such as my arms and neck just in case.

Another essential is light layers to help you stayed covered and protected and the sun, but keep you cool or a bonus layer if its chilly. My personal favorites for this is either a checked shirt or a kimono dependent on what outfit I’m wearing to which works best. It is basically something that keeps you covered, I opted for a checked shirt as it added warmth and with a festival like slam dunk near enough everyone is wearing a checked shirt. Dress accordingly.

Also make sure you are wearing sensible shoes, I opt for things like converse but there were girls the festival wearing flip flops and heels. You need something that will be comfy all day and in crowded areas that you wont loose or roll your foot and injure or even sprain something. Stick with pumps, trainers basically something that is sturdy and comfortable really just think about it. Fashion is not what a festival is all about, yes look nice but think about practicality.

The bag I used you can see in my ‘What’s in My Bag: Compact Edition‘ and it fitted in everything with a little bit of room left over.

whats in my bag

So now onto what I took with me in my little bag, I always like to keep it practical and compact in an attempt not to over pack. The most important items are your tickets and a site map/schedule, you won’t get in without your ticket for a start and the schedule/map is important so you know where to go at what time. As its held at my university I know all of the short cuts and its fairly simple to get around after spending three years there.

Don’t forget to take purse essentials but not your whole purse just in case you loose it. Take enough cash, food stalls, merch and bars mainly only accept cash and the cash machines either have huge queues or run out of money half way through the day so take enough so you aren’t disappointed. Decide how much money to take based on food, drink and travel for taxis ect and maybe take more in case. If you run out of money don’t forget you can get free tap water behind any bar so you can stay hydrated. The purse essentials to me are debit card, ID and cash.

My next few items concern hygiene in several different ways. First up is the fair obvious anti-bacterial hand gel, I am currently using the Fun Edition Cussons Carex Complete in Strawberry Laces, this one smells completely amazing. It’s great for a large number reasons either to freshen up, clean your hands before or after you eat or for after you’ve been to the loo (especially port-a-loos). Along the same lines I have the Halo Hand Wipes, I found these were best for after eating the greasy festival food but we also used them for when my boyfriend cut his leg to clean himself up. I suppose you can take either or but they don’t take up that much room and its good to make sure you keep clean. The final thing in this area is Superdrug Soft Tissues a highly practical thing not only for hayfever suffering, cleaning up spills they are useful for when the loo has run out of paper it is always useful to have tissues.

Other major essentials include keys, camera and phone. A camera is not necessarily essential but the picture quality is better but it can depend on your phone a bit. Then it is just a few random other bits and pieces such as chewing gum for fresh breath, pain killers in case you have a headache ect and plasters (I have cute hello kitty ones) which I mainly use in case your shows rub ect. Oh and the other probably non essential but I always carry around is a clear lip balm in which mine is Rimmel Keep Calm and Shop Lip Balm which it’s bright colours make it easier to find.

The only thing that I had in my bag that I didn’t use was my Yves Rocher Pink Grapefruit Vitamin Face Mist, this was mainly due to the weather been fairy meh this wasn’t needed but if it was hot or really sweaty in a room it would of been ideal to cool us down. However only using one item is pretty dam good in my opinion.

So what are your festival essentials, let me know in the comments below.

What’s in My Bag: Compact Edition

What's in my bag

I’m am definitely guilty of carrying around with a huge bag filled with junk, although I’m at university 3/4 days a week and often go straight from class to work so a huge bag is needed to carry notes, laptop, work clothes ect. you name it, its probably in there. Sometimes though a huge bag gets in the way and you just want something small when you don’t need a lot so here’s wants in my travelling light bag, a very refreshing change.

2

1

So the bag is a beautiful little thing I picked up in the sale section for £4.00 you can see it in my random haul here. It is just a perfect compact size just enough to fit in your essentials and it really stops you from packing too much. I also love the fact you can detach the straps so you can use it as a clutch if so desired or you can change up the strap up a bit so it can be a versatile bag. I’m very glad I picked it up and cannot wait to trade in my over sized  bag to something a bit more manageable.

3

Lipbalm: Rimmel London Keep Calm Lip Balm in 010 Clear (Keep Calm and Shop): A lip balm is always important to keep in your bag although it is something I always change up. At the moment I have this fun rimmel one, it comes in other colours which are tinted but I tend to prefer a clear one to keep in my bag for general use. I also love how easy this one is to find as it is so vibrant.

Tissues: Superdrug Ultra Balm (10 pack): Tissues are always a must whether you need to clean up spills or the usual purpose you need tissues. Plus they barely take up any room and are actually a useful piece of clutter.

Anti-Bacterial Hand Gel: Cussons Carex Complete Fun Edition Strawberry Laces: Another must for someone on the go hand sanitizer for whenever you need it, whether you out and about and just need a refresher, also a must for public transport or grabbing food on the day. At the moment I have this delicious smelling strawberry laces one which is absolutely amazing, I tend to opt for flavors as I prefer a bit of a scent as opposed to the sterile scent.

Phone: An obvious inclusion in every bag, a phone. All I have added to it is this cute simple purple phone case which I picked up for £0.99 off ebay as all I wanted was something simple to protect it.

Keys: Once again another little obvious addition to any bag, they do take a little bit of room simply due to the size of my key ring however, in a bigger bag I find this essential also I absolutely love it as I think its so cute.

Lipstick: Yves Saint Laurent Volupte Sheer Candy (in 01 Lush Coconut): As I don’t have the luxury of having endless lip products in my bag to not only mix up my look but because I’m too lazy to keep taking my lip products our apart from when I need them. As I needed to slim it down I’m mainly going to keep this in my bag adding a subtle nude colour and a nice shine its perfect as a gloss/lipstick combination and due to its natural colour it goes with everything. Also the YSL lipstick are so light and comfortable I cannot wait to expand my collection.

Card Holder/Small Purse: I would usually choose to keep my card ect in one of these but unfortunately I don’t have either as the card holder I brought on ebay got lost in the post and I don’t really have a small purse to put in it as most of my purses are bigger than the bag. I will hopefully get one by the time I really need one.

Have you thought about downsizing your bag and if so what would you keep and what would you eliminate? It is so nice not to be weighed down with junk.

Lots of Love
