DIY Pamper Jar Inspiration

So today I thought I would do a quick post about a small gift I did for I did for one of my best friends from university. I’ve seen these jars all over the place and thought I would do it myself, this isn’t a DIY per say but this is what I filled it with and how I wrapped it all up.

DIY Pamper Jar - Kilner Jar

I was so long to find this pink Kilner jar on offer, and I built it all up around this jar. It’s a really great size and I knew she’d find a use for it in the future whether within her passion for baking or for general storage.

The next thing was to fill it up, wrapping each thing in cute stared tissue paper so everything that is in there will be a surprise. I started off with two Soap and Glory travel sized items, a body scrub and the old favorite righteous butter. A perfect pairing for travel or just to try. I then went for a load of little treats from a Foot Pack, Aussie hair mask and a selection of face masks. Finally to finish off the jar, I packed in 3 nail polishes two beautiful shades of purple and a glitter top coat. All small items that I knew she’d love and appreciate and I think that’s the joy of the pamper or treat jars that you can do whatever you want with them.

I found the cute star tissue paper in the card factory and this pink and white bag in the pound shop. I just feel like they really finish the whole gift off, it looked so cute and she loved the gift.

So have you ever made up one of these jars, what would you put in it and would you make this for a friend?

2015 Favourites

Wow 2015 went bloody quick, I cannot believe it is January already. So I thought I would take one more look back on 2015 with a look at all the products which I have loved the most over 2015, most of these have appeared in a favourites or two and these are the ultimate favourites of the year.

Starting off is with a concealer I have repurchased twice this year the Rimmel London Wake Me Up! Concealer in Ivory, this is a great under eye concealer like the wake me up foundation really brightens and wakes up the face. You’ll never be able to tell you have huge dark circles from lack of sleep and long days of work.

Although mentioned at various points I don’t feel as though I’ve shared my love of this enough over the year, the Rimmel London Exaggerate Lip Liner in East End Snob is a beautiful Kylie Jenner type lip colour. On its own or under something else, I have used two of these and have two more currently in my makeup stash its often sold out so I stock up when I manage to find it in stores. You can read the review here.

2015 eye ft urban decay, maybelline & bareminerals

For more than a year now I have being loving pinky neutral eyes, it complements a fair skin tone and contrasts my blue eyes. I’ve been loving the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette ever since I first got it and I’ve written and extensive review of the palette which you can read here. It’s just highly versatile and I reach for it day after day, for work, for nights out its endlessly versatile and so damn pretty. Along with this is something I brought the second half of the year, the Maybelline Colour Tattoo Gel-Crème Eyeshadow in Pink Gold perfect on its own or as a base for any look I create with the Naked 3. I just love how pretty and how long lasting it is, I think I may try more of the range but due to its ease to fit my makeup it slips perfectly into my collection.Just a brief mention of the Urban Decay Primer Potion, I mention it all the time with any routine and it several favourites. The travel size is all you need as this has lasted me forever despite only being the travel size you don’t need anything more.

Most of the time, high end mascaras including the Benefit Roller lash end up disappointing me as I find better budget counter parts the Bare Minerals Flawless Definition Mascara is worth the money. Its narrow brush allows you to get right to the root in which helps add volume and definition to your lashes. It layers up without clumping and just leaves your lashes looking volumous and fluttery.

2015 hair ft tangle teezer

Although a pastel blue shade is not suitable for this time of year, the Barry M Speed Dry in Eat My Dust has seen so much use this work. This was my favourite shade of the speed dry collection and I would endlessly repaint my nails with it. My other go to choice this year was the Illimasqua Nail Polish in Viridian, a beautiful deep forest green which oddly reminded me of Christmas a lot. It was the perfect shade for winter still dark and metallic but slightly different due to the green hue.

Miceller Waters have really transformed my skincare and makeup removal, so easy to use perfect for if you are a little bit lazy bit they throughly clean and cleanse your skin. My favourite out the ones I’ve tried was the Ganier Miceller Cleansing Water, it’s a huge bottle and lasts ages. I’ve also brought the travel size which was great for travel, I highly recommend giving it ago if you haven’t already.

Another brief mention here of the Nivea Daily Essentials Express Hydration Primer, I’ve mentioned it loads over the 18months I’ve been blogging and I’ve been using it for three or four years now. It’s such a deeply moisturising primer that really leaves your skin feeling fresh.

For years I always struggled to find a brush that went through my hair, so for years I used one of my mums old brushes from the 80s which was really good but I wanted to find something better. I don’t know why I put of using the Tangle Teezer for so long but they are worth the investment as they brush through so well and so easily. I’ve also fallen in love with Hair Oils although there is no particular oil I’ve loved more than any other but they’ve left my hair feeling soft and silky, I also find the smell delightfully. I have the Umberto Giannini Miracle Worker with Argan Oil which is my favourite and and I’ve used sparingly throughout using the others, you can read my first impressions review of it from this time last year here.

So that’s what I’ve loved throughout 2015, what have you loved using or trying throughout 2015? Also what are you looking forward in 2016?

Gift Guide for Her

gift guide for herTo kick of this gift guide series I am starting for with the gift guide for girls, with the guide for him and stocking fillers coming in the next few days. I am doing more of a gift guide for the girlfriend, sister, friends or mothers when you don’t know what to get them, all of which are relatively budget friendly. I’ve created an extensive list on MrLista, which after doing the colab post I’ve actually found it insanely useful for these types of post in order to have links to all websites, which you create (I’ve explained more in my original post here). There you can find more information, if I’ve entered it correct, and links to the websites.

daisy marc jacobsChristmas is the best time of the year to buy fragrances, extensive perfume sets for all price points and with bonus offerings all for a few quid more (if it costs more at all). So it’s a good time of year to buy a perfume themed gift, or buy one for yourself to, I’ve comprised a variety of offerings from some of the leading brands such as Ted Baker and Marc Jacobs.

holiday_cheer

I’ve also added to the list a bunch of pamper sets featuring offers from The Body Shop and Lush with a variety of price points and offers. Due to allergies I can’t use a lot of Lush products so I tend to prefer The Body Shop sets, both offer very different things often the Body Shop offering have a wider variety of products all of the same scent, while lush is more like bath time fun but are still great it just depends what you are looking for.

ted baker shine on gift set

Beauty is another key area for that girl in your like and there are some great sets launched around this time of year, they offer great value money offering something that you cannot get any other time of year. Most of these sets offer such variety in terms of types of products and versatility, although I recommend you take note of what sorts of makeup they tend to wear. With sets from Benefit, BareMinerals and Ted Baker. I haven’t personally tried any Ted Baker Makeup which is exclusive to Boots but the sets are beautiful and well packaged I get a body set most Christmas’, I always reuse the packaging for storing bits and pieces. If you know she has more makeup than she can handle but is still beauty made, a Makeup Bag is another great idea and there are some damn cute ones floating about.

toast usb

For the student or officer worker, or even a blogger, who has important files this Toast USB is cute and practical. Holding 8GB it holds a fair amount of data which will fit most people’s needs, they even come in a few colours and if you collect more you can buy a toast USB hub to go with it. I so badly want this but I have 4 USBs already so I definitely don’t need it but if someone wants to buy this for me I’ll be eternally grateful. Along this line you could also buy cute stationary, be it a diary or notebooks and desk stationary, we all love this stuff but often cannot justify parting with the cash for these types of things. With a variety of prices you can buy just one thing or a collection of items to build up a gift. Paperchase or Tiger is one of my favourite places for cute stationary, unfortunately Tiger isn’t online but it is well worth popping into a store as it is all cute and highly affordable.

asos scarf

To me clothing is a tricky area with the possibility of getting sizes wrong or something they might not wear but I always feel as though you cannot go wrong with a scarf, fitting all sorts of budgets and styles as well as being ideal for the winter months.

So here is a few options for gifts for the girls in your life, hopefully these are useful and there is a more definitive and full list of multiple options under each area on the respective Mr Lista List. Which can give you further information about each of the products, prices and direct links to the product so go and explore here.

Empties #10

Empties #10

Just after I’ve written and empties I seem to then finish everything so I always attempt to space these out somewhat. I don’t know if I should switch to doing these monthly or not but between monthly favourites, collective monthly hauls and then monthly empties I feel like my blog would just feel too repetitive. So just let me know in the comments if I should make this a monthly thing or just make it this semi regular more bi-monthly occurrence.

mkeup empties ft bourjois, collection

L’Oreal True Match Foundation in Rosy Ivory (Sample Size): I’ve owned this in the past and love having the sample size, which lasts ages by the way. I loved it over the summer for travelling, used it for graduation and in between and think this will definitely will be the next foundation I repurchase. Would I repurchase: sure.

Bourjois Paris 123 Perfect CC Cream in Ivory: This was a little bit of a dud, the colour was way too dark despite being ivory and the lightest shade and on its own it can tend to oxidise. Yet the coverage was great so if it’s the right colour it’s probably a great CC cream with a good level of evening the skin tone out. I’ve used it up by using it mixed with other foundations or bb creams especially during the summer and in varying amounts to use it up and make the colour up to match my more tanned colour especially in the summer as even tanned this didn’t match me. Would I repurchase: nope.

Collection Pressed Powder in Ivory: This is my favourite pressed powder ever and I rarely bother to buy anything else, I’m never oily so I cannot comment on its oil control but it thoroughly sets your makeup in place and is actually pale enough. It is fairly finely milled especially for the price point but it doesn’t look cakey. Would I repurchase: always.

P.S Love Egg Shaped Sponge: The sponge is starting to tear and just doesn’t seem to be cleaning properly so it’s time to swap it out again, this has transformed my makeup routine and I absolutely love using it. I usually end up chucking this every three months for a new one but at £1.50 a time it’s what £6.00 a year. Would I repurchase: yes.

skincare empties ft teco & garnier

Superdrug Tea Tree Skincare Lemon Facial Wash: Another item which has been in empties before as well as in the odd routine. So I won’t say much it is just a really nice refreshing face wash, great to use in the mornings. Would I repurchase: yes.

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water (‘Handbag Sized’) & Regular Size: After loving the Garnier Miceller Water I thought I would buy the handbag size to take with me on trips and travels, so I could get makeup off properly . I thought this would be great as you could refill it but as it turns out the top doesn’t come off which sucks. This would be great for going away for longer than a week especially as it lasts way longer than that and it’s a great easy to use product. This has lasted me absolutely months well worth it. Would I repurchase: yes.

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water: This has lasted me absolutely months, although I haven’t repurchased it yet instead buying the L’Oreal Micellar Water because I got it with discount vouchers. I love Micellar Waters in general as they take off your makeup thoroughly and I’m super lazy, I use it not only to take off my makeup but as a quick pre-makeup cleanse. Would I repurchase: yes.

Tea Tree and Peppermint Deep Moisturising Hand Pack: As it starts to get colder my hands start to need more moisturising as sometimes they crack, so sometimes they need some extra TLC. Like foot packs which I have talked about before these have moisturiser within like plastic gloves and they are perfect for a bit of pampering but you can still do stuff while wearing them like a touch of blogging or changing the channel on the TV. Would I repurchase: yes.

Macadamia Oil Extract Foot Pack: I’ve had many foot packs in the past so just look back in my empties if you want to know more, they rock that’s all. Would I repurchase: yes.

Laura Ashley Imperial Bloom Body Butter: Thick, creamy and delightfully floral scent and it isn’t overly heavy but it leaves the skin feeling hydrated and soft. The scent lasts all day too but not in an overpowering way, the main issues is that this was a Christmas gift and isn’t readily available but I think I will try other Laura Ashley Body Butter as the formula is so nice. Would I repurchase: yes, if I can find it.

hair empties ft argan oil & batiste

Batise Original Dry Shampoo (Travel Sized): So I brought this over the summer to take on holiday with me, but it’s taken me forever to use as I rarely use dry shampoo. I am starting to think I should switch to only buying travel sized dry shampoos so they take up less space. I definitely think batiste is my favourite dry shampoo although I like the original scent I definitely prefer some of the others like cherry and blush. Would I repurchase: yes probably.

Argan Oil Shampoo and Conditioner: I initially reviewed this way back at the start of my blog way back in the day, and I found it so-so and it spent most of its time sat the bathroom cupboard. But I’ve recently been using it after swimming and it’s really helped my hair stay in good condition. Would I repurchase: undecided.

Theraputics Renergise Shampoo and Renew Conditioner: These are little hotel bottles which I picked up to take swimming with me, really fresh and a good lather. I don’t think I would bother with trying to find these to buy I think I would use them again.

tesco cotton pads, ps love hand gel

Ghost Girl Eau De Toilette (sample): I received this lovely sample in the post, and it is absolutely delectable with notes of pear and pomegranate it’s a sweet fruity scent which I adore. I loved having the sample in my bag for the odd touch up and to freshen up throughout the day. The only thing I am not sure about is the packaging which looks cute but is slightly teeny if I dare say, but it smells too good I may crack. Would I purchase: yes.

P.S. Love Anti-Bac Hand Gel: This hand gel costs amazing and it costs £0.60, best impulse buy ever. Always keep an eye on the till stuff at Primark as this is impulsive and useful. Would I repurchase: yes.

Tesco Everyday Value 80 Cotton Wool Pads: So-So not great, but not awful they did the job and were good when I needed cotton wool pads tended to use them for polish removal. Would I repurchase: probably if I needed them.

So another empties over and done with, and off to the recycling. What products have you loved and used up recently?

First Impressions: Umberto Giannini Miracle Worker with Argan Oil

review headers

First and foremost I wish to apologise about the typo(s) in the picture but at this point I am way to lazy to fix it, especially as the editing software I used isn’t on my laptop.

So I got this in the Boots after Christmas in a little gift set for £4.00 down from £8.00 with some hair bands and stuff. The size of the oil is 125ml so full size and retails for £8.00 on its own so really its a bargain in the set. The packaging in the Christmas set that I have is slightly different although the product is identical, its obvious the were marketing it slightly differently for Christmas pushing it as a ‘miracle’ hair product rather than specially for frizzy hair.

So this is my first experience with hair oil as I’ve always wondered whether they are worth the price and due to the amazing offer I thought why not. I’ve tried this out a few times and I thought I’d give a bit of my first impressions.

So I followed the instructions on the back putting it on wet hair before I styled it or blow dried it essentially. It says to use as much or as little as you want depending on the frizzyness and how much your hair is damaged and I’ve found that two pumps works best. I just work it in with my fingers then I brushed it through just to make sure before I start styling.

I couldn’t believe the results after the first time after blow drying and straightening my hair it instantly felt silkier a clear improvement. I’ve tried it a few more times and even my boyfriend noticed that my hair looked different but ‘good different’ as he put it, he also enjoyed the smell. I can’t quite describe it and even after straightening the smell remains which is so nice have sweet smelling hair.

So would I recommend it? Yes I would, even at full price its totally worth it as it works amazingly well and its a good sized product so it will last you ages so it is very cost effective if that is what you worry about when considering if and what to try in regards to hair oils.

Umberto Giannini Miracle Worker with Argan Oil is available from Boots for £8.00.

Day 63: Family Vacation Vs Week at the Boyfriends Beauty Stuff

So today I got back from a holidaying in France with my mum and day, and on Tuesday I’m off to Cornwall to stay with my boyfriend and his family for 10 days. So I thought it would be interesting to look at the difference between what I take with my family to been seen by other people. So I’ll say what’s in my beauty bag for each and what’s the same and what’s different.

Family Holiday to France

DSCF4064

So to France I’m taking my small cute Morgan bag in which I have: Medication; Vitamins; Boots Essentials Mosturising Lotion; Superdrug Tea Tree Skin Care BB Cream SPF 15 in Light; Tweezers; The Body Shop Love Ect Body Lotion (mini); Pure Cucumber Eye Roll on; Lip Balm; MUA Extreme Mascara.

So I’m really just taking the basics to France we’re having a busy active week so there isn’t much point taking loads of make up. Also me and my mum are sharing shower stuff so they are n her bag.

Visiting My Boyfriend in Cornwall

So I’m taking 3 bags of health and beauty stuff to Cornwall. Two of which are a beautiful set of matching Ellen Tracy bags, one small and perfect for my makeup brushes and the big one for all my beauty bits. Finally my pretty dusty purple make up bag from Wilkinson’s, they have a lovely range of makeup/toiletry bags that are pretty and inexpensive.

DSCF4069

Make Up Bag: Nivea Daily Essentials Express Hydration Primer; Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation in 010 Light Porcelain; MUA Cover and Conceal Stick in Light; Rimmel Wake Me Up Instant Radience Shimmer Touch in 001 Flush of Pearl; Sleek Face Form in Light; MUA Blusher Lolly; Body Shop Shimmer Cubes Palette 06; MUA Heaven and Earth Palette; MUA Luxe Pretty Edgy Palette; Avon True Colour Eye Duo in Warm Cashmere; Maxfactor False Lash Effect Mascara in Black Brown; Collection Intense Colour Kohl Pencil in 01 Black Magic; MUA Pressed Powder in shade 1; Collection Pressed Powder in 18 Ivory; Barry M Cor Balmy in Adam and Eve; Rimmel Apocalips in shade 102 Nova; MUA Lipstick in shade 14 Bare; Avon Sample Lipstick in Crimson Twilight; Avon Sample Lipstick in Golden Berry Ultra; NYC Lipstick in 433 Peach Fizz; Lighter; Hair Elastics.

DSCF4075

Make Up Brushes: Wilko Premium Stipler Foundation Brush; Comsopoliton Blush Brush; Blush Brush; Kabuki Brush; Body Shop Slanted Brush; Ruby & Millie Eye Blending Brush; Wilko Eye Make Up Brush Carnaby; Wilko Eye Make Up Brush Fuschia.

DSCF4076

Toiletries Bag: Elizabeth Areden Fragrences in 5th Avenue, Pretty and Sunflowers; Foot Pack Intensive Rejuvenation Gingoko Biloba; Hand Pack Intensive Rejuvination Rose and Shea Butter; Superdrug Tea Tree Skincare Exfoliating Cream Wash; Escenti Tea Tree Facial Wash Gel; Argan Oil Shampoo; Argan Oil Conditioner; Nivea Double Effect Eye Make Up Remover; Colgate Sensitive Pro Refielf; TRESemme Heat Defence Styling Spray; Dove Go Fresh Cucumber & Green Tea Scent Compressed; Batiste Dry Shampoo Blush Travel Sized; Skin Therapy Large Oval Wool Pads; Medication; Tooth Brush; Pure Cucumber Eye Roll on.

There is basically nothing similar, and the worst thing is that I don’t feel like I’ve over packed for going to Cornwall. I’ve tried to pack accordingly to what I am doing when I’m while I’m away, meals out seeing people ect. In my head they are both fit for purpose but are the really? I don’t have a clue.

Day 61: Argan Oil Shampoo and Conditioner Review

DSCF4055

I brought these in a haul at the start of July and I’m finally writing up the review. I brought these both at the 99p shop for £0.99 each obviously but they are available in a lot of places for around the £1.00 mark. I wanted to see if the cheap versions of argan oil products actually work or not. So read on to find out how I got on.

So first off the smell, it kinda smells like childhood a certain subtle fruity smell that loads of those no more tears shampoos had, so pleasant and not overpowering. The shampoo has a good amount of lather and easily works into the hair. The shampoo is thick and smooth and I found it works into the hair really easily

Upon on the first wash my hair did feel smoother, and sleeker. You need to remember it’s not a quick fix and I like it but then I’m not convinced after the first that is was sleeker or I just thought it was because I wanted it to be, so I think I’ll have to try a few more washes . . .

So second wash, my hair felt smooth and amazing while washing and smelt lovely when drying. However, this time I’m not convinced my hair is any better than it is with my normal hair routine.

So I’ve carried on washing regularly as it needs several washes to take effect as it isn’t a onetime fix, and although my hair felt slightly improved it wasn’t especially noticeable although I am happy to admit that it might be due to product choice.

I think I will try argan oil again but opt for the actual oil and splurge on something more expensive, a £0.99 bottle was never going to work miricles but if it worked in one way or another than it would have been great. The fact it hasn’t, didn’t leave me out of pocket and I can just carry on using it as normal shampoo/conditioner.

Have you tried any argan oil products? Did you find a difference and what do you recommend/ don’t recommend trying?

Day 31: Collective Worcester Haul

P1030111

So I went to see my sister for a few days now that she has moved to Worcester and while she was at work on Monday I went on a mini shopping spree and I thought I’d share with you that I brought.

P1030117

First up I brought this, it is a lovely lace/netted waterfall cardigan that will be great all year round. Unlike an actual lace jacket its soft so will be really comfortable to wear and I think it could be a really versatile piece in my wardrobe. You could team it with a cami, shorts and flip flops for a boohoo layed back summer/holiday look, dress up with a LBD and heels for a dinner date/night out or even throw on with a vest top, skinny jeans and pumps for running errands or going to lectures. I cannot wait to see how many looks I can create with this. Purchased at House of Fraser for £45.00 £22.50.

P1030112

I desperately need a new pair of shorts for summer and searched high and low for a simple denim pair which seems nearly impossible these days. Although these say hot pants these aren’t too short and have such a great fit I had to get them. The distressed look is a summer staple and coming in year in year out and the little daisys around the pockets are so cute. Available at New Look for £19.99.

P1030116

I really really do not need another skirt but I saw this and just couldn’t resist, I don’t own any cranberry coloured clothes but it is so easy to dress with whites, blacks and naturals so it will slip right into my wardrobe. The cross over at the front and the ruching is so simple yet so cute. Purchased from H&M for £3.99 £2.00.

P1030115

These aren’t for me but I will probably will end up wearing them, my Marvel obsessed boyfriend seriously needed some new PJs as he insists of still wearing a pair that are falling apart so I thought I could coax them away from him with these amazing marvel lounge pants. Available at Primark for £9.00.

P1030113

I’ve been wanting a frame that looks like this for ages but could never ever get myself to part with the cash. Then I went in to Poundland to see if there was any more bargain make up bits I wanted, sadly there weren’t but then I saw this. Unfortunately it is plastic but when it is placed on a desk you’d never know and besides I’m taking it to uni which like most stuff means its likely to get knocked and bumped so it will do. Purchased from Poundland for £1.00.

P1030114

Finally I brought some beauty bits.

From the 99p shop I brought some Argan Oil shampoo and conditioner, I’ve been reading the hype for ages and have so badly wanted to try it for ages but don’t want to break the bank. When I saw these I thought why not at £0.99 each it doesn’t break the bank and if it does nothing for my hair I haven’t lost anything at that price. When I run out of my current shampoo and conditioner I will move onto these and I will review them when I do. Purchased from the 99p shop for £0.99 each.

Then I went into Superdrug and I couldn’t resist the MUA counter. I need some more pressed powder and thought I’d give it a try and if it breaks when I’m travelling it  doesn’t actually matter at only costing £1.00. I also brought a MUA Luxe Velvet lipgloss thing, I have wanted to try them for ages and love the results I have seen other have but I don’t have the confidence for bold lip colours then I saw this more natural one and just could resist especially for just £3.00. Both are available from MUA online store and Superdrug.

And finally my sister brought me the Elizabeth Adren miniatures from Argos she wanted to buy me a gift for getting a 2:1 in my second year of university and I choose this. I’ve never tried any of them before but I’ve wanted to and this gave me 6 different fragrances. I cannot wait to try them all out and a review will be up once I have. Currently on offer at Argos for £14.99.

Anyway that’s what I brought while I was away. What have you brought recently? Are you also enjoying the summer sales at the moment?
