What’s in My Travel Makeup Bag?

Travel Makeup

So tomorrow morning I will be getting up stupidly early for a Saturday, hopping in my friend’s car and heading on a girls trip up to Scotland. I will be posting a little travel diary once I’m back as well as a travel toiletries next week, but I thought I would start with the simplest my travel makeup bag.

I just want to start with the bag, which is a personalised bag from Not on The High Street. It’s a hand size that helps me not over pack but still fits plenty in and I love the aesthetic of it.

Travel Makeup - Personalised War Paint Makeup Bag

The focus of the products chosen is products I love, multipurpose and ones that are reliable. It’s always the golden rule for myself when travelling is wherever possible never take a new product, take ones you know that work and you are comfortable using so you have no mishaps when you only have a small collection of products to use.

Travel Makeup Face

For my base for this trip I am using the L’Oreal Paris Infallible 24-Hour Matte Foundation in 10 Porcelain, with a high matte long lasting coverage I know I can use this for a day look or for a fuller on night on the town look. Also with the plastic tube is more practical for travel than the glass ones as it won’t break and it’s not bulky. To Finish up my base fully I have my old faithful collection productions in the form of the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in 1 Fair and Collection Primed & Ready Invisible Setting Powder. The final item for my face is the Sleek Face Form Pallet in Fair, an unsurprising favourite just simply due to the fact it is 3 products in one and I can just use it all week with very little fuss.

Travel Makeup Random

For my eyeshadow, I am using two of my smaller go to pallets with every day subtle to dramatics covered in the No 7 Mini Eye Pallet and cute shimmer shades with the Fleur De Force Quad Eyeshadow in 020 Lunar Rose. Although both nude tones I feel as though I have a nice range of colours with these two as well as a range of looks going for the eyeshadow eyeliner look I have everything I need in this compact form. To finish of my eyes I am taking my only newer product as I had no choice using the L’Oreal Paris Mega Volume Miss Baby Roll Mascara, however I have used it a few times and I am enjoying it. A full review will be sure to come later. To complete my look, I cannot forget the brows and my fast favourite item in my makeup draw the Freedom Duo Brow Powder in Medium Brown could not have been left at home.

Travel Makeup Eyes

I haven’t included lip products or brushes, as I will literally pick lip products as I finish my packing and mix it with whatever currently in my bag, as I have been feeling bold recently and my lip products have been travelling everywhere with me. Still be sure to keep your eyes peeled over on Instagram for photos of my trip and the odd selfie or two.

Review: Soap & Glory What a Peeling Purifying De-Clog Mask

Soap & Glory What a Peeling Purifying De-Clog Mask

Who doesn’t want unclogged pores and clear skin? Which is why on a whim I picked up the recently launched Soap & Glory What a Peeling Purifying De-Clog Mask. Let’s not faff around and get into.

Within the pack you get two pods and a spatula for application, so with each pod as a single use from one purchase you either get two uses or can use the mask on a pamper night with a friend. The two pods are a great way to get multiple uses out of the product especially as a peel off which can start to ball up with exposure to air, it also helps break down at the cost at £2.00 per mask it lines up with what you can expect to

According to the Soap & Glory website the mask promises to: “Just like you, this peel-off mask is totally hard pore. Liquid gel transforms into the lift-off paper strip to smooth, purify and remove all gunk and junk (including blackheads) in one go – it’s so a-peeling! Our multi-tasking mask is power-packed with 10 amazing ingredients including: Kaolin and Bentontie Fine Clay Powders to help absorb excess oil; White Willow Bark to help oil skin; Vitamin C to boost tired Complexions; and scented with exotic tropical fruit.”

“OOO its pink!” the only thought that came into my head as I peeled back the foil of my first pod to try the item for the first time. I don’t know what I was expecting but I wasn’t expecting the brightness of the pink but I love it anyway and it makes it a bit more fun, not quite The Crème Shop level of fun no Pandas, Racoons or Penguins here but you don’t get the same luxury of these possibilities with a peel off mask.

The pack comes with a spatula which is a great idea but I just didn’t seem to get in with it as it is simply too small, making the application longer, more messy and fiddly. In the end I just chucked it and went for the back to basics option of using by hands to apply and I think it just provided a more through and even application of the mask. The mask itself has a thick gloopy textured which weirdly reminded me of PVA, like back in the primary school days where you’d cover your hands in PVA, wait for it to dry and peel it off, ah simpler times.

The thicker texture does mean you can really feel it on your face but it doesn’t bother me too much and it makes you feel like you are doing something good for your skin. After application, you are meant to apply and leave it for 25 minutes by this point it should be fully dry and you can peel off the mask in one go. I must admit it took a lot of will power for me to wait the 25 minutes, as I tend to peel off these types of masks in small sections as each part dries but I wanted to give the mask a proper go. After about 10 or 15 minutes, the masks started to peel around my mouth as it had full dry and as I was talking drinking although it didn’t touch the mask itself it did mean the mask once dry started to peel away from the mouth making it slightly uncomfortable but I persevered. After about 20 minutes the mask had mostly dried, and started to feel tight, letting me know it was almost ready. After 25/30 minutes there was a small patch that hadn’t quite dried, which I think is where I may have accidently applied it that but thicker but the mask was tight and the loosening section around my mouth and nose had started to get pretty uncomfortable so I just had to take it off. To my amazement the mask did in fact peel off all in one, with the exception of the small still non-set area which I had to remove separately.

Soap & Glory What a Peeling Peel Of Mask Pot

Examining the mask afterwards, you can tell that its pulled something out of the skin and my face felt so much clearer. I really enjoyed using this mask and loved using the second pod two as my skin has been slightly problematic the past two weeks, and I feel like this has really helped with the improvement of it. I always wonder sometimes with the Soap and Glory skincare, but these masks definitely feel work it. The pack of two pods is £4.00 from the likes of Boots, making it £2.00 for mask which in reality is a really affordable price especially for a single use mask that really works. Also, if you are apprehensive Boots regularly has offers on Soap & Glory so wait for something that works for you. I’m even tempted to pack a pod with me when I go away later in the year so I can keep on top of my skin while travelling.

Have you tried any of the new Soap & Glory masks, let me know in the comments as I am curious to try more.

Review: Bourjois Paris Aqua Blush in Berry Nice

Bourjois Paris 24 hr Aqua Blush in Beryr Nice

Time to dig back into my Latest in Beauty goodies, and pull out something to review. This time it’s the turn of the Bourjois Paris Aqua Blush in Berry Nice, a cream blush perfect for long lasting makeup or the summer months. Every summer I go through a phrase of only wearing cream blush, and I’m never quite sure why I never wear it the rest of the year. Although I do not feel as though I would have picked out the colour myself, as it is a little on the darker and deeper side for my skin tone, but I thought I could make it work and I wanted to test the formula out.

The blush comes in a small pump bottle, which is new for blush for me but I love the control it gives me. I managed to find a good balance in getting the right amount of blush out for application, especially as a darker/deeper shade a little goes a long way. The blush is a light liquid formula that with the use of fingers or a stippling blush, delicately blends into your foundation creating a subtle flushed look with nothing overly heavy.

Boujois Aqua Blush on Face

I was apprehensive at first on if I could make the colour work for me, as it isn’t a shade I would have picked up in the shop and it isn’t one you’d tend to pick for a fair skin tone. Yet I found myself loving the colour and look although I feel as though it may be best in autumn as I much prefer a coral shade at this time of year, it will get me to mix up my winter products and it’s a fun addition to my makeup collection.

Overall I think it’s a light workable formula and I am definitely tempted to try out a different shade, one more suited for my complection soon. What are your favourite cream blushes let me know in the comments.

Review: Barry M Flawless Mist & Fix Makeup Setting Spray – Matte Finish

Barry M Flawless Mist & Fix Setting Spray Matte Finish

We all want our makeup to last, whether is for a night out, long day or ensuring it withstands the heat/weather we all want to stay looking perfect all day. I am always on the hunt for a budget friendly setting spray and with an offer on a Boots a bit back, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to try something new. The Barry M Mist & Fix Setting Spray comes with two finishes either Matte or Dewy, personally I prefer a matte finish which is the one I will be reviewing here today. So, what’s the verdict on the Barry M Flawless Mist & Fix, Makeup Setting Spray Matte Finish?

First and foremost, the packaging a topic I usually start with as its always the first thing that attracts you to a product and really makes a huge difference to what you think of it. I must say I find the packaging for the setting spray a little lack lustre, the spray bottle itself is what you’d expect so it’s not where I am disappointed. Within a few days, the label started to peel off, a thick tacky label which is unattractive and makes me want to hide the bottle away. I am aware the aesthetic is very much Barry M but it’s made me realise that other brands such as Primark make a much more sophisticated and more aesthetically pleasing item for the same price point.

There’s no hidden tricks, with these products just a simple mist on the face and your makeup should stay all day. This product has a nice light mist which isn’t too wet or too big droplets which will affect the integrity of your perfectly applied makeup. What I will say is the spray does not spread too far so you need to make the effort to spray round your face opposed to two pumps and your gone. For the budget end through I rather make the effort to ensure coverage rather than have a non-light mist so I can deal with the compromise for such a low price point.

Now the most important thing, did it keep my face matte and my makeup last all day? The result, well kind of. I don’t tend to have an issue with oiliness so the fact my face was still matte at the end of the day wasn’t a huge surprise but I am currently preferring a matte finish to a dewy one, which influenced my decision process. As for the long-lasting effect? It was somewhat there, I did put it properly to the test trailing it on a hot day, and one of those days at work where I never seemed to sit down at my desk for any longer than 5 minutes. Both occasions my makeup held reasonably well, staying reasonably well but it was clear that my makeup had started to wear away on my forehead and some other spots. A full-on day or heat, just isn’t in this products capability and I think I maybe expected a little too much of it. Where I am really finding a love for this setting spray though is when wetting by brush before applying powder based products it just adds something extra to the colours and the staying power of what I wear so it will be put to good use.

Unfortunately, the Barry M Flawless Mist & Fix Makeup Setting Spray, Matte Finish didn’t quite live up to my expectations. Let me know in the comments which setting spray I should try next, I’m looking for that holy grail item so I cannot wait to hear your opinions.

Review: Freedom Brow Duo in Medium Brown

Freedom Medium Brown Duo Brow Powder

This review has sat waiting to be written for a few weeks now, I’ve been putting it off for no reason other than laziness. I think you may have seen this in one of the last few months’ collective haul, so I have managed to get some use out of it and fully ready to write a full review up. So how have I found the Freedom Duo Brow Powder in Medium Brown?

I will admit now although I love to fill my brows with powder, this is the first time I have actually brought an actual brow powder. The Freedom Duo Brow Powder seemed like a perfect first attempt as the two colours were both cool shades that could be used independently or mixed to make the ideal brow shade to suit my hair colour.

The duo comes in a nifty little compact, that you never would guess was so affordable as it looks sleek as well as been well made and durable. I also love the fact there is a little mirror, I’m not sure it is really practical and I don’t know who tops up their eyebrows on the go but it is so nice to have and makes the whole compact feel more expensive.

Now for the actual product, the freedom brow duo actually comes in a variety of shades, and I found the medium brown not only suited me most but had the largest contrast between the light and dark shades covering a wider range of shades if you mix it. If I am feeling daring I could wear the darker shade on its own but on a day to day basis I mix my brush across both the colours to make my perfect brown shade. I just apply with an angled brush to neaten up my brows and fill them up, I’m by no way a brow professional but it just gives them that little bit more umpf and make me look more put together with minimal effort. The most amazing thing is that, despite only been a powder I have found that my brows stay all day, even when my other makeup starts to fail in the heat.

If you want an affordable brow option, something easy and affordable or just want to try something new, I would definitely recommend checking out the Freedom Duo Brow Powders there is a shade for everyone and even at full price its only £3.00 so you have nothing to lose.

Review: Yves Saint Laurent ‘Rouge Volupté’ shine lipstick 09 Nude in Private

YSL Rouge Volupte Shine in 9 Nude in Private

Every girl love a little luxury, and when I received Debenhams vouchers for my birthday I brought what I had been trying to justify. The perfect everyday lipstick, that is simply beautiful. So maybe I’m biased, lets call this a swatch post opposed to a review as I am simply going to gush over how much I love the Yves Saint Laurent ‘Rouge Volupté’ Shine Lipstick 09 Nude in Private for a couple of hundred words and then a few pretty pictures.

The YSL Rough Volupté Shine Lipsticks, according to the Debenhams website are described as: A truly cult lipstick, ‘Rouge Volupté’ shine combines voluptuous glide and go colour with comfort and care. Thanks to 6 sensorial oils your lips are kissed with long lasting moisture. ‘Rouge Volupté’ shine lipstick is wrapped in a romantic, elegant, gold case. Shades available from semi sheer to more intense. My time to shine! Its moisturising action is gained through hyaluronic acid microspheres seal in moisture and prevent lips from drying out. With pomegranate and rice combat free radicals act as an antioxidant shield. Emollients make the lips soft and smooth leaving lips protected and comforted. Candelilla wax combined with silicon oils sheathes the lips in a shiny film coating that enhances the colour.”

I would say that this Nude in Private is a shade that is on the sheerer side, but this may be due to the fact it’s your lips but better shade it’s definitely depositing colour but nothing heavy. I must say this is one of the most comfortable lipsticks I have ever owned and I simply keep this in my bag as it is so easy to touch up without a mirror or on the go.

Also can we take a final minute to take a note of just how beautiful the YSL packaging, high end, beautiful and practical I just cannot get enough of it. I apologies for the fact this is a lack lustre review, I think the YSL lipsticks are simply beautiful and I’m so glad I finally have one in my collection. Let me know what you’ve tried from the YSL Rouge Volupté Shine Lipstick Range, or any other YSL products what are your favourites and what’s worth trying I’d love to know.

Review: Soft Matte Lip Cream in Cannes

NXY Soft Matte Lip Cream in Cannes

From 12 months ago never really using a NXY product to becoming pretty certain that at some point my entire lip collection may become NXY products, is insane. The big part of this is the fact NXY launched in Boots during the summer of 2016 before making it a much more accessible brand in the UK. I am yet to try any other products in the NXY line but this is my third NXY Soft Matter Lip Cream.

This time I selected a more natural colour, the others I have are very different you can see my reviews for the other two on my blog. I’ve previously tried the deep red/ vampy shade Copenhagen as well as a bright-ish pink called San Paulo. This time I picked up a natural but deep-ish shade, so carry on if you wish to find out how I got on with the NXY Soft Matte Lip Cream in Cannes.

I have to say until now I never understood why people complained about the Soft Matte Lip Creams the previous two I have had are absolutely amazing this one left me wanting more really. Although more comfortable on the lips than Copenhagen and San Paulo, the staying power really isn’t there. Within hours the colour is patchy and faded and this occurs even when I am not eating or drinking, where the others last with minimal wear on the lips. I found myself reapplying every two hours and it is simply a pain compared to the others. Fortunately with these been a more natural colour, and the staining properties I have found that it probably doesn’t look quite as bad as some of the others when it fades.

NXY Soft Matte Lip Cream Lip Swatch

The lesson learnt here is to simply that this line is clearly hit or miss, I’ve had two excellent ones, while Cannes has proved to be so-so. The product is not necessarily bad but compared to what I know this line can be I am disappointed. This is simply a case of checking out reviews and reading about before had to check how these once compares.

March Favourites

March Favourites 2017

I feel like it was last week I was writing up my February favourites and now it’s time for March Favourites. March has been a good month seeing as I turned 23 this month, another year older and another year wiser. So what have I been loving this month.

As winter turns into spring and it’s not quite so cold in the mornings I have got back into moisturising after my morning shower and I have been loving the Ted Baker Body Lotion. Its rich and moisturising, and soaks into the skin easily so perfect for the mornings as I can let it do its thing while I do my makeup. It also helps that the body lotion has the same scent as the Ted Baker scent I use daily so there’s no conflicting fragrances.

Slightly odd one but I first picked these up on the way to work I notice my nails were badly chipped. The Quickies 20 Nail Varnish Remover Pads, are amazing at removing nail polish quickly and easily. Opposed to standard nail polish removers these are slightly more oil based so I’d recommend a tissue to clean up the excess oils.

As for makeup I’ve got into my eyeshadow again, despite been initially unsold on the Fleur De Force Quad Eye Shadow in 020 Lunar Rose I’ve been enjoying a few of the shades this month to create a pretty everyday look. I then blend this out with the Kiko Milano in 130, which as you can tell is one of my go to products and I felt as though it needed a little appreciation.

Batiste Natural & Light Dry Shampoo

Final favourite is the Batiste Dry Shampoo in Natural & Light Bare, over the years I have found for me that batise is the best dry shampoo but the reason I stopped using it was the overpowering dry shampoo smell that I felt was essentially saying to everyone “hey I haven’t washed my hair. I saw this the other day and love it, it still works great and refreshers hair like all other batiste products without the heavy sent, its light and nothing too much.

What have you been loving this month, let me know in the comments.

Review: George Tint N Pout Tinted Lip Oil in Barely There

george-tint-n-pout-lip-oil-in-barely-there

So much for only buying what I need in 2017, I’ve fallen victim to another impulse buy this month. However, I have never tried a lip oil before and while picking up bits for dinner I could not resist buying an everyday lip oil.

The George Tint N Pout Tinted Lip Oil in Barely There, promises to “Nourish & Moisture Lips with Marula Shea Butter” which seemed like a great combination to me as you get the benefit of a light lip colour while adding moisture and keeping your lips hydrated. There are 3 colours within this range 01 Barely There the colour I picked here, while the other two I cannot find the shade names online but there is a brighter coral pink as well as a more berry colour so there is a nice but small collection.

The packaging is simple; the thin black tube is simple but hits the mark it is not too bulky and will fit in most makeup bags it. It’s actually really slim and I can fit this in my purse itself, it is a decent sized purse but it’s nice to know how easily it can fit. The applicator is the standard doe foot applicator, which is my preferred type of applicator for these kind of products as it provides accurate and easy application. So, nothing outstanding for packaging, but it doesn’t need anything more.

In all honestly I wasn’t sure what to expect the mixture of never using a lip oil and with no research and little exploration into the George makeup range, I felt as though I had a perfect blank slate to truly look at the product for what it is. I felt immediately apprehensive upon opening the product, resembling a gloss and seeing glitter I wondered what I had got myself in for despite expecting a more glossy texture the glitter really through me off. I used to love gloss but in reality its sticky, greasy and often unpleasant on the lips for any period of time. Thankfully although the lips look glossy and feel a tiny bit greasy over the course of 5/10 minutes the product dries almost completely. And the glitter? Pretty much non-existence, phew! I was really dreading that. I love the fact the glossiness doesn’t necessarily last and its only a short while of unpleasantness.

As for the colour when you initially put the product on it mainly resembles a clear lip gloss, just emphasising your natural lip colour. As it dries the colour really develops and you end up with a really pink lip, still natural looking but the “barely there” statement is no longer true you become aware and its noticeable that you are wearing a pink lip colour. So if you were looking for nude, this is not it sadly but the colour is nice it’s just not what you’d expect for this product. Your lips become stained with a pretty pink colour, that you don’t have to worry about as the colour will stay all day.

All in all I am glad I tried this, it adds a little bit of moisture to the lips nothing life changing but if you want a no makeup day it’s a little more interesting than lip balm. Its also worth keeping in mind that colour develops over time but all in all its not a bad product.

Let me know what your experience with lip tints or lip oils are and would you recommend them?
