Wear Test: Kiko Milano Nail Lacquer in 521 Pearl Ocean

Kiko Milano Nail LAcquer in PEarly Ocean

In an attempt to start reviewing nail polishes again and better I thought I would start doing wear tests, showing the build up of layers when applying and how it looks each day up until it chips or I get bored and take it off. So let me know what you think of this format for review. Today is the turn of the Kiko Milano Nail Lacquer in 521 Pearly Ocean, the brand makes no promises so let’s see how it goes.

So I built up the colour over 3 layers although I feel like even with thin coats it looks great with only two, I am a 3 coat type of girl in order to get the best colour and longevity. Excuse my messy painting, but I love the colour of the Pearly Ocean Nail Lacquer a pretty electric blue with tiny flecks of glitter which looks so pretty without having the hassel of glitter polish.

After a pretty standard day at the office, sat at my desk doing work at the computer so nothing to harsh on my hands or nails. IT held up pretty much perfectly with a tiny bit of wear around the tips, feeling pretty positive so far. Day two was another pretty standard day at work, pretty busy but nothing harsh on my hands. Although I forgot to take a picture it just was just slightly more worn than day one.

By the end of day 3 I had managed to get a decent chip and it was at this point I decided to change my nails. I get bored of nail colours quickly and I did not feel the need to carry on until they were all chipped.

Although smoother than a traditional glitter polish, it was a bugger to get off and resorted to soaking my nails in polish remover in order to take it off. Which although it means if probably can last a while it will make it a pain to use in future if you want something for a day or so. Overall I love the colour, formula and finish and despite the fact I would like it to last longer because I do like to change up my nail colour regularly. It is a bit of a pain to take off and I will need to ensure that when I put it on, that a few days later or when I wish to take it off I have the time available to dedicate it. I think I will look at more Kiko Nail Products in the future they have a huge range of colour and finishes, that it will be impossible to stop myself picking up more.

The Kiko Milano Nail Lacquer in Pearly Ocean is available online here as well as in Kiko shops, the RRP is £3.90.

How long do you like your nail polish to last? Also have you tried any other Kiko Milano nail polishes and what do you think of them?

No 7 Beautiful Skin

No 7 Beautiful Skin Cleansing Water

By now the majority of us have tried cleansing/micellar waters especially from brands such as Simple, Garnier and L’Oreal Paris, and here’s one I haven’t tried before nor have heard much about the No 7 Beautiful Skin Cleansing Water. So I thought I would give it a go.

I always feel as though the Boots No 7 brand is often overlooked, I feel as though for most people view it as for older people but it is a really great brand. With high quality makeup and skincare, although it’s not the cheapest brand especially as the No 7 Cleansing water is £9.50 for 200ml so much expensive than its drug store counter parts yet comparable to a lot of other brands. One tip I will give is that Boots regularly give out vouchers for No 7 products with purchases, £3 off makeup and £5 off Skincare. So most of the time you will be able to get it for £4.50, or get it with many other offers available at Boots.

The product comes in a tall plastic bottle with a pump top, there isn’t a cap but the pump top can be twisted to lock it so you don’t accidently spill it everywhere. The pump is a nice touch, preventing the use of too much product and it is obviously a pricier packaging option, nice but not necessary. Unlike the other Cleansing Waters I’ve tried this one has a least a semi subtle scent

So first up and most importantly how does this deal with the removal of makeup? First and foremost due to the pump it takes that bit longer soak the cotton wool pads, or dampen them enough but that’s not really a big deal as most the time it prevents wasting the product. It swipes of product really easy and takes all of the makeup, so that nothing is left on the skin. For removing eye makeup I often find it best to hold the cotton pad on the eye for that bit longer, just hold it on for 10 seconds and it tends to remove, and at least loosen the worst of the product off as they days when I layer up mascara and go big it takes a bit more to get them off. All in all it works well as a makeup remover.

Obviously we don’t just use these things for makeup removal, sometimes it provides a good cleanse. I especially like using it as a pre-makeup cleanse when it’s been a decent amount of time from my morning skincare routine and I want to make sure my face is fully cleansed and clean. It’s a simple case of splash a cotton wool pad with some of the No 7 Cleansing Water and swipe it all over your skin, which is just super refreshing. I would liken it to the Ganier and other micellar water in how it leaves the skin, just how you want it clean and clear. It does exactly what you want it too, I especially love it before bed as it smells amazing. Use it before bed and you wake up in the morning with your skin feeling fresh and smelling amazing.

Overall I think that it is a great product, it does what it’s says it does and smells amazing and I would recommend giving it a go if you are curious. Is it better than others? No not necessarily as it works just as well as the others, it’s not hard as they are all great products and have transformed skincare routines no end. I understand here that price is an issue, although comparable some other brands Ganier, Simple and L’Oréal all offer great products for under £5.00 and I feel as though it depends what you wish to spend your money on.

Let me know what your favourite Cleansing Waters let me know in the comments below, is there any more I should try?

Current Skincare Routine

So New Year and I want to create a new and improved skincare routine but I have no idea where to start. So logically I thought I would share my current routine and then I can take on any suggestions. January seems to be a month of skincare on Tuesday with the next two weeks having detailed reviews of items which appear in this routine.

It has taken me forever to make a skincare routine and the most important things for me is that it works and it’s simple. Before I started blogging and exploring skincare properly, my routine was nothing more than splashing water on my face in the morning and removing my makeup with a wipe. Over time my routine has semi evolved to what it is now, definitely manageable but there is definitely room for improvement.

So my skincare can really be split into 4 times of the day, although they obviously sometimes pair up depending on what I am doing all four parts are done daily. So I’ve split my routine into what I do when I wake up, before I put makeup on, when I get in and before bed which I think is the most appropriate way to split it up.

waking up

This used to be the part where I used to splash my face with water and that was it but I’ve finally stuck to washing my face daily in the morning, a step I’d skip due to sheer laziness. I used to swap between a normal face wash and an exfoliating one but I’d often end up skipping the exfoliating one out of sheer forgetfulness or sometimes find them too harsh. The Nivea Daily Essentials Gentle Cleansing Cream Face Wash is a dream come true as it cleanses but still leaves your face feeling clean and hydrated, and I often use this alongside the P.S. Love Facial Pad. It’s the perfect combination although I will refrain from saying too much about the pad as I am posting the review of it in two weeks’ time (ooo the suspense). Once I’m done in the shower I apply my Superdrug Deep Action Anti-Blemish Gel and then sometime moisturise it depends what else I am doing that day, if I’m not applying makeup or my skin feels especially dry.

before makeup

On a work morning (a.k.a weekdays) the time between my wake up section and before makeup is the time to make a cup of coffee and starting a youtube video on my phone. I don’t know if it is just me but I love having a ‘beauty guru’ video going while I do my makeup even if it’s completely irrelevant or I’m not following it. The most important step of doing makeup is to have a completely clean face, and hands for that matter. So in order to prep my face for makeup I use a cleansing water or a face wipe depending what is to hand, its more to freshen up and make sure I have a good base. At the moment I have either been using the No 7 Beautiful Skin Cleansing Water with a cotton wool pad or Pure Deep Cleanse Wipes, depends on either mood or what is to hand. Also as part of my skincare I always use a hand gel before makeup application especially as you may use your hands for products, better safe than sorry.

Getting in

I can never be bothered to do a full cleanse when I get in, but so I don’t sit all night in my makeup especially if I’m not doing anything seems pointless. The most important thing here is quick and effective removal, and I always reach for a micellar water so once again I reach for the No 7 Beautiful Skin Cleansing Water. Cleansing and Micellar water have transformed my routine as I know that they completely remove every scrap of makeup I’m wearing and I’m good to go. If I’m feeling super lazy, or I get in super late I will whip out a face wipe, it’s not ideal but it’s better than sleeping in making or rubbing it all around your face.

bed time

Before bed is where make sure I have a more ordered routine and it’s still a refreshing change for me as it used to be as long as my makeup was off I thought I was fine. Depending on how my skin is doing (most my skin issues are time of the month related) I will wash my face again with the Nivea Daily Essentials Gentle Cleansing Cream Face Wash or sometimes just water just to freshen up but it depends what I truly feel like. Then the proper cleanser and toner using the Boots Essentials Cucumber Cleansing Lotion and Facial Toner with a cotton pad more which 1) makes my skin smell fresh and amazing and 2) makes sure my skin is thoroughly clean. Finally I use a night cream to keep my skin hydrated and ready for morning and I love using nivea products, in this case the Nivea Daily Essentials Regenerating Night Cream. As this is a relatively heavy product sometimes I put it on focus areas and other times I put it all over. Finishing off with a little eye cream once again from the Boots Essential Cucumber range, it’s the Boots Essentials Cucumber Eye Gel.

Other Bits

Eye Patches: Botanical Choice Dark Circle Reducer Sunflower Eye Patches

Current Face Mask: Soap and Glory The Fab Pore 2-in-1 Facial Mask and Peel Review Here.

So that’s my current skin care routine, super simple and straight forward with a limited amount of products. I do want to improve it though so I would be grateful for any suggestions be it products or steps as I feel as though I would like a better routine. I have normal to dry skin and prefer to use sensitive product, so if you have anything let me know what you think are really good skin care products.

He Thinks I’m Prettier in Makeup . . .

elizabther taylor

He thinks I look prettier in makeup, flawless skin and big eyes all the things you can do with makeup he loves and prefers to my messy bun and slobbing around in his pjs and hugest shirts. Yes my boyfriend thinks I am more beautiful when wearing makeup and that’s the way I like it . . .

Before you moan oh his sexist or something about being made to feel like that, it is my choice to wear makeup and when near the start of  blogging I did a post all about it which you can check out here. It’s not even like his hates my bare and natural face, we’ve been together for 3 years and his seen it from way before we became an official item, and he knew what he was getting into. As he puts it, he will always find me beautiful but with makeup it just emphasises it, I love my blue eyes so I will always try to emphasis them and he has a point. If makeup made you look worse no one would bother wearing it or investing in nice products. It’s nice to know at the end of the day that someone is appreciating the effort, rather than a friend complementing your lipstick only so she can go out and buy it for herself.

With the world of beauty and beauty youtubers/bloggers being talked about in the media more these past 12 months. The topic of makeup and beauty has become a bigger discussion topic between me and my boyfriend, and it’s nice to know his opinions on it, his also started to see it more than just something his girlfriend wears and loves to buy. As I’ve never been the girl that has to wear makeup but I am the girl that loves to, it makes me feel confident and I love the routine of it.

I hate those people who claim to prefer girls with no makeup, I accept some men do, and those that thing makeup makes girls ugly. Or even worse those when they see someone without makeup call them hideous etc. even if they are a complete stranger. Why is there so much hate? Some assume girls who wear makeup are hiding something, or do so to please others. I also hate the assumption that girls wear makeup for men, yes my boyfriend does think I’m prettier in makeup but his indifferent, I wear makeup for me. It is close minded in this day and age to assume someone wears makeup for anyone but themselves.

imperfection is

It sounds weird to think I love the fact my boyfriend prefers me in makeup, but he appreciated the effort and often finds something different to complement ‘ooo I like your eye stuff today’, as he try to indicate my eyeshadow with hand gestures. He no longer moans when we look at makeup, I take into account what he likes (which is basically using lip gloss sparingly as he hates it) and he’ll notice when I try a new technique. I appreciate the fact his honest to and his opinion is that if I didn’t look better in makeup why would you put in the effort and not sleep in.

Makeup shouldn’t be so hotly debated, wear it for you and that’s the only reason. I love the fact my boyfriend likes my makeup is a bonus but I wear makeup for me. Wear what makes you feel good, if a bold red lip makes you confident go for it, if you love a smoky eye then own it. Makeup is fun, creative and something that is great. The news and critics need to leave it be, there are worse things in the world then women wanting to wear makeup. Similarly I don’t think a fuss should be made about going makeup free, when there is a shock that a celeb goes to the shop without makeup, well neither do I what is the big deal? Makeup needs to be treated as something to comment and bring down people for wearing it/not wearing it.

I don’t believe that there is a pressure to wear makeup, or to buy high end and expensive products, I cannot speak for teenagers now when I went to secondary school (high school) there was no pressure to be wear makeup. At school people started at different ages and some people barely bothered, none of it mattered. Now at 21 I don’t feel the pressure either, I don’t feel I have to look a certain way or do certain things with my look and my mother is 49 and doesn’t feel the need to wear it she never has and she looks great.

What are your opinions on wearing makeup and the media and attention it’s been given over the past 12 months or so? Should we feel ashamed when we choose to always wear makeup or should it not really matter? Let me know in the comments, I think this would be a great discussion.

Collective Haul July

July Collective Haul

I’ve picked up bits and bobs throughout July and I’ve tried to keep stuff aside to keep everything for the haul but obviously you don’t always manage. So here’s a collection or random bits I picked up throughout July.

Poundland Haul ft. Pampers, Maybelline and L'Oreal Paris

I love poundland for picking up bits and pieces, I am yet to try their own brand items but you can some great branded products for cheap. Some of the brands it’s discontinued, items that aren’t available in this country or just the initial packaging in the foreign packaging. So first up I picked up the Maybelline Color Show Blush ‘em! I have no idea what shade this is but it has a proper pink shade and then more of a coraly pink shade which is beautiful. The only thing I think is a shade is that it is only half the packaging as there is a brush in too, but it’s such a lovely colour and only cost £1.00 so I can’t complain. I also picked up the L’Oreal Paris Color Riche Nail Polish in 505 Wild Purple, I’ve always wanted to try the Color Riche polishes but something always stops me. I love this type of purple polish, so I know I’m going to get a lot of use out of this.

I also got a car in July, so you will see a theme in which quite a few bits reflect this. I always think wet wipes are a must have, as you can clean up spills and mess as well as freshen up. I picked up a pack of Pampers Natural Clean Fragrance Free Wipes, I always opt for baby wipes as they are much kinder to the skin, and I thought the £1 for 64 wipes wasn’t a bad price although sometimes with stuff like poundland you need to be careful as you could get stuff cheaper elsewhere but this didn’t seem like a bad price.

Poundworld Car Haul

Another pound shop now, you can pick up some great bargain. Both of these are for my car. First up is a Little Trees Bubble Berry Air Freshener which smells amazing, really sweet and fruity. I just wanted a cheap air freshener initially incase I decided I didn’t want one. I also picked up Go Auto Cleaning Windscreen Cleaning Pads, which included a microfiber pad and a chamois pad which will sort out most of my car needs.

boots soap and glory

I popped into Boots Mid-July and managed to stop myself from looking at makeup as I really want to use up some of the stuff I have at the moment before buying anything else. I did however want to get some new skincare/face mask and when I saw Soap and Glory skincare had money off I couldn’t resist. I managed to control myself and ended up picking up only one mask, settling on the Soap and Glory The Fab Pore 2-in-1 Pore Purifying Mask and Peel which was £6.66 down from £10.00. I am planning to write a review of it shortly so keep your eyes peeled.

primark Haul

I also brought some clothing from Primark which you can check out here. If you were unaware I have started a new job and got a car which I am trying to avoid mentioning but when all my purchases are mainly based around these things its hard not to. I own a ceramic hello kitty travel mug with a silicon lid which I love but it isn’t the most practical so I picked up a Travel Mug from Primark home. With a sturdy screw on lid and a flip lid I can take a coffee or even cold drinks such as fruit water, smoothies ect to work with me or even drink when I am stuck in traffic. There are loads of cute designs, I just went something simple, available from the Home department of Primark for £3.50.

I also picked up a replacement P.S. Love Egg Makeup Sponge, my other one is on the way out and is stained no matter how much I try to clean it. Yet at £1.50 I don’t mind getting a replacement I’ve had the previous one since Febuary so if you want to try these shaped sponges the Primark one is a great option. Finally from Primark I picked up a candle, I’ve brought quite a few in the past not this scent though as it smells absolutely divine. It’s the Blackcurrant & Forest Plum Candle it’s one of the large ones and is meant to last up to 30 hours which isn’t bad. It also comes in a beautiful plum glass holder which I will probably use after for decoration/storage as it’s a good size and purple is both me and my boyfriend’s favourite colour.

So yeah those are the few bits I picked up over the course of July, I like doing a monthly collective haul although if it’s a big haul I think I will still do it separately. I will be back on Friday with a weekend pamper kit.
