What’s in My Travel Makeup Bag?

Travel Makeup

So tomorrow morning I will be getting up stupidly early for a Saturday, hopping in my friend’s car and heading on a girls trip up to Scotland. I will be posting a little travel diary once I’m back as well as a travel toiletries next week, but I thought I would start with the simplest my travel makeup bag.

I just want to start with the bag, which is a personalised bag from Not on The High Street. It’s a hand size that helps me not over pack but still fits plenty in and I love the aesthetic of it.

Travel Makeup - Personalised War Paint Makeup Bag

The focus of the products chosen is products I love, multipurpose and ones that are reliable. It’s always the golden rule for myself when travelling is wherever possible never take a new product, take ones you know that work and you are comfortable using so you have no mishaps when you only have a small collection of products to use.

Travel Makeup Face

For my base for this trip I am using the L’Oreal Paris Infallible 24-Hour Matte Foundation in 10 Porcelain, with a high matte long lasting coverage I know I can use this for a day look or for a fuller on night on the town look. Also with the plastic tube is more practical for travel than the glass ones as it won’t break and it’s not bulky. To Finish up my base fully I have my old faithful collection productions in the form of the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in 1 Fair and Collection Primed & Ready Invisible Setting Powder. The final item for my face is the Sleek Face Form Pallet in Fair, an unsurprising favourite just simply due to the fact it is 3 products in one and I can just use it all week with very little fuss.

Travel Makeup Random

For my eyeshadow, I am using two of my smaller go to pallets with every day subtle to dramatics covered in the No 7 Mini Eye Pallet and cute shimmer shades with the Fleur De Force Quad Eyeshadow in 020 Lunar Rose. Although both nude tones I feel as though I have a nice range of colours with these two as well as a range of looks going for the eyeshadow eyeliner look I have everything I need in this compact form. To finish of my eyes I am taking my only newer product as I had no choice using the L’Oreal Paris Mega Volume Miss Baby Roll Mascara, however I have used it a few times and I am enjoying it. A full review will be sure to come later. To complete my look, I cannot forget the brows and my fast favourite item in my makeup draw the Freedom Duo Brow Powder in Medium Brown could not have been left at home.

Travel Makeup Eyes

I haven’t included lip products or brushes, as I will literally pick lip products as I finish my packing and mix it with whatever currently in my bag, as I have been feeling bold recently and my lip products have been travelling everywhere with me. Still be sure to keep your eyes peeled over on Instagram for photos of my trip and the odd selfie or two.

Review: Bourjois Paris Aqua Blush in Berry Nice

Bourjois Paris 24 hr Aqua Blush in Beryr Nice

Time to dig back into my Latest in Beauty goodies, and pull out something to review. This time it’s the turn of the Bourjois Paris Aqua Blush in Berry Nice, a cream blush perfect for long lasting makeup or the summer months. Every summer I go through a phrase of only wearing cream blush, and I’m never quite sure why I never wear it the rest of the year. Although I do not feel as though I would have picked out the colour myself, as it is a little on the darker and deeper side for my skin tone, but I thought I could make it work and I wanted to test the formula out.

The blush comes in a small pump bottle, which is new for blush for me but I love the control it gives me. I managed to find a good balance in getting the right amount of blush out for application, especially as a darker/deeper shade a little goes a long way. The blush is a light liquid formula that with the use of fingers or a stippling blush, delicately blends into your foundation creating a subtle flushed look with nothing overly heavy.

Boujois Aqua Blush on Face

I was apprehensive at first on if I could make the colour work for me, as it isn’t a shade I would have picked up in the shop and it isn’t one you’d tend to pick for a fair skin tone. Yet I found myself loving the colour and look although I feel as though it may be best in autumn as I much prefer a coral shade at this time of year, it will get me to mix up my winter products and it’s a fun addition to my makeup collection.

Overall I think it’s a light workable formula and I am definitely tempted to try out a different shade, one more suited for my complection soon. What are your favourite cream blushes let me know in the comments.

Latest in Beauty – The French Box

Latest in Beauty - The French Box

It feels like 12/18 months ago beauty boxes were everywhere, but I feel like they have disappeared a little bit. I never bit the bullet, I’m aware you could cancel at any time the spending money monthly with no guarantee of liking the products made me unsure although I loved the idea of trying out new products. Over the past 12 months I have kept checking back at the Latest in Beauty, as well as a monthly service where you pick samples they also over collections, which can order on a one-off basis. I have been curious over a few but with a 50% off sale as well as an enticing French Box I couldn’t resist. Without hesitation, I whipped out my card paid the £12.50, (plus p&p) and the box landed on my desk in the next couple of days

I will look to review some of these items in more detail, but for now here is a rundown what is in the box and the general idea of the item.

Latest in Beauty - The French Box - Kusmi Tea BB Detox

Kusmi Tea BB Detox

The box is valued at £50, whether it is or isnt worth that, there’s is a lot of samples that I cannot wait to try. The only downside is there isn’t an information card, as I’d love to have some sort of information in the box about the products but I just refereed back to the website and read the packaging so its neither here nor there. As my first experience of latest in beauty and of a beauty box im pleased and excited to try them out, also with the collections on the website its good if you want a beauty box every so often without the commitment of a subscription. Currently available on the Latest in Beauty website, price is reduced from £25 to £12.50, p&p charges apply and while stocks last

Don’t forget to let me know which items you want to know more about, I’m excited to dig in and see what these little French beauties can do.

May & June Favourites

June! How is it the end of June! It was going to be the month I was going to get active and get the blog get on track, but between work being hetic and the hot weather by the time I get home I feel so demotivated. Hopefully July will be the month I will get back on track but until then here is my May and June monthly favourites, a double serving to cover what I may have missed last month.

July Favourites

First up are my makeup favourites, and I will start with a base as it seems to make the most sense. With the hot weather mid-month, I fully embraced the George Matte Foundation in Warm Ivory, more of a BB cream than a foundation it was ideal when my face was melting. All in all, my review and initial opinion stay the same but it’s a great option for the hot weather. All in all, thought my makeup has stayed fairly basic this month, and I have rekindled my love for some of my affordable options such as the MUA Blush in Lolly and the PS Love 9 Shade Eyeshadow Pallet. Both products that do it all, adding a little bit of colour but nothing heavy which is what you really want as it comes into the summer month. As the weather turned a bit crap, this past week I have really embraced and enjoyed wearing eyeliner again, and I just had to include the Collection Extreme 24 Hour Felt Tip Eyeliner which I have review previously the perfect black budget eyeliner.

July Favourites - Skincare

Weirdly I have two “cleansing” favourites this month, I suppose with two months it can happen. A more recent favourite is the Nivea 3 in 1 Gentle Cleansing Wipes for Dry Skin, with the muggy and hot days mid-June there was nothing I wanted more than to be out of my makeup ASAP. So, I picked these up on offer from Asda, and started taking my makeup off at the end of the day in the car. For minimal work, these took off my makeup and left me fresh and clean faced, and I’ve been using them as soon as I get in so can allow my skin to breath. As for the evening skincare routine, I have been loving and I am almost out of the The Body Shop Camomile Cleansing Butter. A gentle but through cleanser is ending my day perfectly ensuring all the grime for the day is gone, no makeup or dirt left but is gentle and soothing on the skin. I’m not totally over the textured but the pros outweigh the cons so I cannot complain.

What have you been enjoying this month, let me know it the comments I’d love to hear them.

Current Makeup Routine: Autumn Edition

20161026_153423

autumn-makeup

As the seasons change, we all like to mix up our makeup, so I thought I would share how I’ve mixed it up for the current season and what I am currently loving.

autumn-makeup-garnier-skinactive-micellar-water-and-moisturiser

Before I do any makeup I always cleanse my face again, as I’ve usually done a fully skincare routine by this point I just simply use a little bit of the Garnier SkinActive Oil-Infused Micellar Water on a cotton pad. To create a good base for my makeup I always moisturise and my current favourite is the Garnier Skin Active Moisture Bomb Super Hydrating Antioxidant Moisturiser, especially as the weather is getting cooler and the dry air of heating and temperature changes moisturiser is a must.

autumn-makeup-loreal-paris-sleek-collection-mua

I’d like to say I am using a primer but half the time I never remember it, so I am usually straight onto my foundation which I feel like it is included in every single one of the L’oreal True Match Foundation in Rosy Ivory. This is by far my favourite foundation, it’s one of the best matches I have ever found and it’s a nice medium but buildable coverage. Any blemishes I simply cover up with the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer, it’s just one of those concealers that is good for anything. Then to add a little touch of definition and colour with the Sleek Face Form Pallet in Light bronzer and a touch of the MUA Blush in Cupcake, not adding anything dramatic just a touch of something.

Next up the brows, I don’t do anything fancy, I lightly build up and fill in the gaps with the Natural Collection Eyebrow Pencil in Medium Brow. I cannot believe how good this is, it’s so affordable the product is great and it even has a spoolie the colours are limited but if it is in your shade, definitely check it out. Then if I’m feeling it I finish up my brows with a touch of Benefit Gimmie Brow, I am still debating of forking out for the full price item.

I’m also enjoying keeping my eyes simple, just some liquid eyeliner something to simply define but with no blending or effort. At present I am loving the L’Oreal Paris So Couture Super Liner. Then finish it off with lashings of mascara which I grab which ever one I feel like wearing I am fairly non-committal with mascaras at the moment.

autumn-makeup-nxy-soft-matte-lip-cream-in-20-copenhagen

Finally it is all about the lips, a mad thing for me to say really considering I have such a love hate relationship  with lipstick but I am trying to push the boundaries. So to complete the look for this post, I’ve finished off with the NXY Soft Matte Lip Cream in Copenhagen (see the review here). I don’t always commit to it but it does make me feel autumnal and feel like I am embracing this time of year.

What are your favourite makeup items this time of year, let me know in the comments below I’d love to know.

Review: Illamasqua Powder Blush Duo

Illamasqua Powder Blush Duo in Duo 2It might have only been a hot minute since my last review, but I have caught the new product bug and I’m currently loving mixing up my routine and trying new products. If you saw see my haul the other day (check it out here), you will have seen I picked up the Illamasqua Powder Blush Duo in Duo 2 and I’ve been putting it to the test over the past week or so in order to gage how it shapes up.

I always like Illamasqua simple black packaging, and the small embossed logo is a nice though just nice simple and elegant. However, I do find the packaging to feel a bit like a cheap plastic, which I hate to say it’s great for the price point I brought it at but if I paid the £26.00 do I dare to say I might have been disappointed. It is probably nice and sturdy for travel though, and the big mirror also suits this purpose, so definitely one to pack in the makeup bag.

Duo 2 contains two very different blushes both in terms of shades and finishes, which I think makes it a great palette to add to a makeup collection and as mentioned above makes it a great choice for travel. So how do the two shades shape up.

The top shade, and first shade is Katie a beautiful pale matte pink shade. It is pigmented enough to show colour on your face but not enough to be obvious, blending out well to add a natural dimension to the face working for you not against you. It has a lovely finely milled formula which sits well on the skin and I can imagine this been a great everyday colour especially if you have fair skin.

Unfortunately, Ambition, the second shade is not quite so positive. Weirdly Ambition is very chalky, just touching your brush to it creates loads of fall out so you have to tap it off properly before application. I have to say I think the colour is beautiful and the glitter isn’t as in your face as I thought it might be acting as much more of a shimmer than in your face. His is definitely one for a fuller makeup look or a night out, but it is beautiful. With high pigmentation, and the fall our you do need to be careful not to put too much on as well as blending like crazy if you do. A perfect part of the set but not something I would pick up on its own.

Out of the two I personally prefer Katie, but Ambition is a nice colour to have in my collection and I think I will use them both. Personally I think this is perfect for travel as a sturdy compact with two very different colours which means it can work for every occasion. I will definitely pack this in my travel makeup bag, later on this month.

Let me know your favourite blushes in the comments.

June Favourites

June Favourites ft rimmel, ck, kiko and maybelline

How on earth are we halfway through 2016 already, it seems like no time since I was writing my 2015 favourites. So we are back round to my monthly favourites in the blink of an eye, its insane really. Speaking of favourites if you would like to see my top 5 palettes which I did earlier this month, check it out here.

So we start off with something I was not necessarily sure about when I initially purchased it, the Maybelline New York Color Show Blush Em! The colour pay off wasn’t what I wanted but actually when I gave it a second chance by putting it in my makeup bag to force me to retry it I found myself in love with it. This blush gives me a super pretty, subtle flush of the cheek and it is perfect in the summer.

Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer in Ivory and Maybelline Color Show Blush Em!

Although the English weather has been pretty variable this month I have been trying to get into the summer spirit with lighter more dewy makeup, many of these can be seen in my “What’s in My Makeup Bag”. There is one product though which I feel though never gets enough praise the Rimmel London Wake Me Up Concealer, it’s a perfect brightening under eye concealer and I always repurchase it.

Pixi by Petra Mesmerising Mineral Palette in Plum Quartz and Kiko Milano Water Eyeshadow in 201

I’m definitely on a pretty pink thing and I attempt to embrace summer and for the past two weeks I’ve been intensely in love with these two items. I have loved creating a subtle pastel pink look with the Kiko Milano Water Eyeshadow in 201 Rosy Taupe and building it up with the Pixi by Petra Mesmerising Minerals Palette in Plum Quartz. I love creating a pretty pink look that is summery, delicate and natural.

Calvin Klien Ultimate Edge Lip Gloss in Bubble Gum and Shades of Pink

Finally a more summary lip option, I’m finally back into light and glossy summery lips so I have two lip glosses I have been reaching for this month the Calvin Klien Ultimate Edge Lip Glosses in Shades of Pink and Bubble Gum. I am loving a simple no effort gloss, bubble gum is simply a gloss so I can add it to whatever I am wearing or just rock the subtle all natural gloss and glowing look. Shades of Pink however, it a deeper pink which is nice as it add a touch of colour but isn’t overly powerful making it more of a pretty in pink look. I keep these in my bag and it’s so easy to touch up over the course of the day.

So those are my June favourites, what have you been loving this month let me know in the comments.

Review: New Look Pure Devotion Blue

New Look Pure Devotion Eau De PArfum 10ml

I think this is the first time I’ve reviewed a fragrance properly and what better way to do it then justifying an impulse purchase. In the UK rollerball or small perfumes apart from tiny gift sets, small perfumes are rarely seen and the main way to get a handbag friendly perfume is using a travelo. So when making my New Look order I couldn’t resist buying one to test out. New Looks Fragrance Range contains 4 difference scents Blush, Devotion, Touch and Dusk which are all affordable and in various sizes. I picked up New Look Pure Devotion Blue 10ml which retails for £2.99.

The New Look website describes the scent as:

“A fresh, smooth floral fragrance with top notes of pink peony, freesia, and lychee. At the heart, mid notes of magnolia flower, lily of the valley, and rose provoke femininity. A base of velvety elegance comes to fruition through cedarwood, amber, and honey.”

The packaging is a pretty pastel box with silver foil, and reminds me of when you’re a teen of viewing certain packaging as ‘adult’. Still I think it is cute and simple, I also love the fact the small handbag size bottle is glass which is a nice touch especially at this price point. The bottle is nothing fancy, but it does its job and is nothing over the top and tacky.

I’m not sold on the scent, the lychee in the website description is not on the bottle and it’s definitely a floral fresh scent. I am more of a fruity floral scent but I think it may take a little getting used to. Over the past month or so the scent has really grown on me, different from all my over scents it is lovely to have in rotation and I love the fresh floral notes for the warmer weather. A definate summer scent rather than for the winter. The scent lasts a good 4 to 6 hours, although if you want it to last all day you may need to top it up but it is a very good size to do this as it could fit in any handbag, makeup bag or clutch so you don’t need to worry about the scent fading too much.

As mentioned above New Look Fragrances  have 4 scents, and come in two forms a 150ml Spray Bottle Body Mist or a Perfume which is a spray at 10ml, 50ml and 100ml and a roller ball which is 17ml. The entire range is super affordable with prices between £2.99 and £12.99 so if you like a scent its super affordable and I always feel that if you love the fragrance the brand and price doesn’t matter.

Have you tried any of the New Look Fragrances? If so which one is your favourite? Also let me know in the comments about what scents you like to carry around with you.

Top 5 Palettes

top 5 palettes

Another top 5 post, today I am summing up my top favourite palettes, 4 eyeshadow and 1 face from a variety of price points. So lets get started . . .

Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette

First up is my favourite eyeshadow palette of all time the Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette, I did an extensive review back in October as to if it was worth the price. If you want to read more, see swatches and all the pros and cons you can read my review here, but to cut a long story short I love it!

no 7 mini eye palette

I never normally look at number 7 but the other Christmas my sister brought me the No 7 Mini Eye Palette, which is sort of a best of palette. It has a good range of shades to help you create a wide range of looks from light and neutral to dark and smoky. Great for travel due to its huge mirror and variety or every day.

mua heaven and earth palette

You can definitely tell which eyeshadows are well loved within the MUA Heaven and Earth Eyeshadow Palette. At only £4.00 if offers amazing value with a wide variety of tones and shades which can all easily mix and match everything within the palette to create the perfect look. I definitely want to play a little more with the darker shades and have a little play.

MUA pretty edgy palette

One of the first products I reviewed on my blog (which you can read here cringe) was the MUA Luxe Pretty Edgy Eyeshadow Palette, a beautiful mix of shimmery satins and mattes which all have a beautiful colour bay of and blend into each other so easily. I get compliments on it every time I wear this and I adore the pinky purple tones with my blue eyes.

sleek face form palette

The final palette on this list is a face palette, and one I have reviewed and mentioned a few times one of the reviews you can ready here Sleek Face Form Palette. It’s the perfect do it all palette for contouring and the blush is absolutely beautiful. Its travel/makeup bag friendly and really does it all. You can read my review of it here.

So those are my top 5 palettes, let me know yours in the comments as well as any recommendations for palettes.
