What’s in My Travel Makeup Bag?

Travel Makeup

So tomorrow morning I will be getting up stupidly early for a Saturday, hopping in my friend’s car and heading on a girls trip up to Scotland. I will be posting a little travel diary once I’m back as well as a travel toiletries next week, but I thought I would start with the simplest my travel makeup bag.

I just want to start with the bag, which is a personalised bag from Not on The High Street. It’s a hand size that helps me not over pack but still fits plenty in and I love the aesthetic of it.

Travel Makeup - Personalised War Paint Makeup Bag

The focus of the products chosen is products I love, multipurpose and ones that are reliable. It’s always the golden rule for myself when travelling is wherever possible never take a new product, take ones you know that work and you are comfortable using so you have no mishaps when you only have a small collection of products to use.

Travel Makeup Face

For my base for this trip I am using the L’Oreal Paris Infallible 24-Hour Matte Foundation in 10 Porcelain, with a high matte long lasting coverage I know I can use this for a day look or for a fuller on night on the town look. Also with the plastic tube is more practical for travel than the glass ones as it won’t break and it’s not bulky. To Finish up my base fully I have my old faithful collection productions in the form of the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in 1 Fair and Collection Primed & Ready Invisible Setting Powder. The final item for my face is the Sleek Face Form Pallet in Fair, an unsurprising favourite just simply due to the fact it is 3 products in one and I can just use it all week with very little fuss.

Travel Makeup Random

For my eyeshadow, I am using two of my smaller go to pallets with every day subtle to dramatics covered in the No 7 Mini Eye Pallet and cute shimmer shades with the Fleur De Force Quad Eyeshadow in 020 Lunar Rose. Although both nude tones I feel as though I have a nice range of colours with these two as well as a range of looks going for the eyeshadow eyeliner look I have everything I need in this compact form. To finish of my eyes I am taking my only newer product as I had no choice using the L’Oreal Paris Mega Volume Miss Baby Roll Mascara, however I have used it a few times and I am enjoying it. A full review will be sure to come later. To complete my look, I cannot forget the brows and my fast favourite item in my makeup draw the Freedom Duo Brow Powder in Medium Brown could not have been left at home.

Travel Makeup Eyes

I haven’t included lip products or brushes, as I will literally pick lip products as I finish my packing and mix it with whatever currently in my bag, as I have been feeling bold recently and my lip products have been travelling everywhere with me. Still be sure to keep your eyes peeled over on Instagram for photos of my trip and the odd selfie or two.

Review: Collection Velvet Kiss Moisturising Lip Cream in Blackberry

Collection Velvet Kiss Moisturising Lip Cream in 6 Blackberry

So, after my discussion on Friday about falling in love with makeup again, it only seems right to meet the product that inspired me to play with and enjoy makeup again the Collection Velvet Kiss Moisturising Lip Cream in the shade Blackberry, something fitting as it turns into Autumn. Per the Collection Website the Velvet Kiss Moisturising Lip Cream is a “Moisturising liquid lip cream, leaves a matter velvet finish on the lips without drying them.” Not a huge claim or promise but it retails for a mere £2.99, from Boots, Superdrug and even your local supermarket so how does this shape up.

Collection Velvet Kiss Moisturising Lip Cream in Blackberry

Let just start with the colour isn’t it just stunning, a beautiful well blackberry purple perfect for the autumn winter months when you want to embrace the berry lips in a fun way. I know purple is not necessarily a standard for my pale skin tone but I wanted something fun and slightly different really. Basically, I love the shade on and off the lips and I wonder why I never tried it before.

Unfortunately pass the beautiful colour I have to say my feelings are fairly mixed. For application, it’s not too difficult but can be a little patchy so you need to work a little bit to ensure its not streaky. The formula dries and sets quickly though so you can get on with your life fairly quickly, it’s not a liquid lipstick that stays tacky for hours.

The collection lip cream makes no promises to be long lasting, although I always feels as though long lasting comes in line with having a lip cream. This is definitely not long lasting by 10am on a work day it was patchy and completely gone from the middle, causing me to reapply, this was without a coffee or a drink on a hectic morning with nothing comping into contact with it. For the first reapplication, it goes over the top fine but after that you really need to take it off, start again and make sure my lips are clean and dry. Which has proven to be a pain, and after a morning of keeping up with my lipstick which you must with such a bold colour my lips were dry and uncomfortable.

I think it’s a shame how poor this venture turned out, I had high hopes for the Collection Lip Cream and thought it would be a great alternative option for lip creams but it turned out not to be so. I love the colour, and I’m glad I tried it but I think for now if you want a Matte Lip Cream I would just go for the NXY line which I have love all 3 shades I have purchased in the past. Keep your eyes peeled as I will be trying out a Rimmel London Matte Lip Cream in the coming weeks, which I am excited to try. Let me know what matte lip products you love in the comments and if you want to see more reviews for matte lip colours check out my reviews for the NXY Soft Matte Lip Cream in 08 San Paulo, 19 Cannes and 20 Copenhagen.

September Collective Haul

I’m back everyone! Did you miss me? Probably not but regardless I’m back after having to take some time out to look after my mum, we are getting there and I am now going to start getting back into blogging. So, I am easing myself in with a little collective haul.

Primark: I love a bit of Primark, also purchasing a pair of heels which is not showcased here. I haven’t purchased any Primark clothes recently as I am trying to show restraint not buying what I don’t need. At the end of October me and my friend are having a week away staying in a variety of Air Bnb and hotels, so I picked up a pair of Love to Lounge Grey Footlets (£3.00) for when I want to be comfortable but don’t necessarily want to walk around bare foot like I would do at home. They are super handy and pack small, so seem like a no brainer and I can wear them when I get home, these also have structural integrity so shouldn’t slip off my feet all the time like the fluffy Primark ones tend to do. Also for the trip I picked up some PS Micellar Cleansing Water (£0.90), I’ve previously used the full size version and it’s not a bad product saving room in my bag. If you want to see my review of the PS Micellar Water you can check it out here

September Collective Haul - Collection Velvet Kiss

ASDA: After thinking about it for a little while, something took hold of me and I felt like I needed to own a purple lipstick. So I went for the affordable route just in case it wasn’t my colour or my thing, and I also wanted to try something different with the Collection Velvet Kiss Moisturising Lip Cream in Blackberry (£2.98). Fingers crossed this goes well as I am apprehensive about such a dark/bold colour. (Not Photographed, opss)

September Collective Haul - Superdrug Makeup

Superdrug: Seems like everywhere was doing 3 for 2 on makeup in September but I prefer the flexibility offered with Superdrug as it offers it across all makeup brands. So I took advantage of the offer and picked up some bits I actually needed for once. First and most important was the Collection Primed and Ready Invisible Setting Powder in 01 (£3.99 free), which is fast becoming my favourite powder for setting my makeup and using as a base it keeps my skin looking flawless. Just before going shopping I just had to throw out of my mascaras, I can never resist trying something different and I felt like trying a new L’Oreal Paris mascara so on a whim I picked up the L’Oreal Paris Miss Baby Roll Mega Volume Mascara in Black (£7.99). The third item I picked up was the Barry M It’s a Brow Thing Shape and Define Brow Powder in Medium (£4.99), I just felt like trying something different for my brows so keep your eyes peeled letting you know how I got on.

September Collective Haul - Fluke

Waterstones: I have brought a book in ages, physical or digital, as I was re-reading what I had but I was having a spendy day and just felt like it really. Fluke by Joseph Mazur (£9.99) has been on my list for a while as I prefer those smart thinking books. So next month I’m going to stop looking at my screen before bed and start reading more.

I also picked up a yoga matt, some cute heels and fun headphones all of which I’d used before getting round to photographing as I just seem to excited to use the items and they aren’t the easiest to store before photographing. I’ll get back into the swing of photography and writing soon but it’s been a busy month and I will be trying to get back into the swing of things throughout October, I have a lot planned so hopefully I can get over the hump and get back into creating posts I love.

July Collective Haul

As July winds down, it means just one thing its time for my monthly haul and favourites (which will be up Friday), lets delve into all of the goodies that I picked up this month

July Collective Haul - Collection Concealer & Rimmel Nail Polish

Asda: Asda, the one stop shop for all my essential and not so essential makeup items. I probably pick up more than hauled but it’s when I remember. As always, I picked up another Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in Fair 01 (£4.19), one day I may try something new again but not just yet. I was also on a mission the end of June/start of July to find a fun yellow nail polish, to embrace summer and have some mini Tour de France support and the first yellow shade I found was the Rimmel London 60 Seconds Super Shine Nail Polish in 452 Chin Up Buttercup (£2.99). It’s a supper fun, and bright yellow and although I prefer the one I found shortly after I’m glad I have this to mix up my nail polish collection.

July Collective Haul - Barry M

Boots: For the first time in a while I’ve shopped in Boots mainly because I don’t get into town much these days, there is a very small Boots near my work but it’s not worth shopping in as it holds very few lines. As I knew what I wanted I ordered online and picked up in store for free. I wanted a few Barry M items and with a 3 for 2 offer at the time I simply couldn’t resist. He main reason for the order was this delightful pastel yellow shade Barry M Coconut Infusion Gel Nail Paint in 707 Lemonade (£4.99), a perfect shade to embrace summer and my love of the Tour De France. I picked up another of the coconut infusion range as my “free item” , choosing the Barry M Coconut Infusion Gel Nail Paint in 714 Aloha (£4.99) which I felt was so fun and summary I just couldn’t resist and I love Barry M Nail Polishes. A summer must have for me is a setting spray, so I thought I would give the Barry M Flawless Mist & Fix Makeup Setting Spray Matte Finish (£4.99) its affordable and a matte finish is always a winner so I will put it to the test shortly.

The Body Shop: Once again in July The Body Shop did there 40% off everything including sale items, so with my mum we both purchased a few bits. This time all I wanted was a few more body sorbets and I simply couldn’t resist these delicious summer scents. I cannot wait to start using the The Body Shop Virgin Mojito Body Sorbet (£3.10) and The Body Shop Pinta Colada Body Sorbet (£3.10)

So, those are the bits I picked up over the course of July, did you guys get anything good? I’m planning to check out the summer sales shortly so August may be a shopper happy month.

May & June Favourites

June! How is it the end of June! It was going to be the month I was going to get active and get the blog get on track, but between work being hetic and the hot weather by the time I get home I feel so demotivated. Hopefully July will be the month I will get back on track but until then here is my May and June monthly favourites, a double serving to cover what I may have missed last month.

July Favourites

First up are my makeup favourites, and I will start with a base as it seems to make the most sense. With the hot weather mid-month, I fully embraced the George Matte Foundation in Warm Ivory, more of a BB cream than a foundation it was ideal when my face was melting. All in all, my review and initial opinion stay the same but it’s a great option for the hot weather. All in all, thought my makeup has stayed fairly basic this month, and I have rekindled my love for some of my affordable options such as the MUA Blush in Lolly and the PS Love 9 Shade Eyeshadow Pallet. Both products that do it all, adding a little bit of colour but nothing heavy which is what you really want as it comes into the summer month. As the weather turned a bit crap, this past week I have really embraced and enjoyed wearing eyeliner again, and I just had to include the Collection Extreme 24 Hour Felt Tip Eyeliner which I have review previously the perfect black budget eyeliner.

July Favourites - Skincare

Weirdly I have two “cleansing” favourites this month, I suppose with two months it can happen. A more recent favourite is the Nivea 3 in 1 Gentle Cleansing Wipes for Dry Skin, with the muggy and hot days mid-June there was nothing I wanted more than to be out of my makeup ASAP. So, I picked these up on offer from Asda, and started taking my makeup off at the end of the day in the car. For minimal work, these took off my makeup and left me fresh and clean faced, and I’ve been using them as soon as I get in so can allow my skin to breath. As for the evening skincare routine, I have been loving and I am almost out of the The Body Shop Camomile Cleansing Butter. A gentle but through cleanser is ending my day perfectly ensuring all the grime for the day is gone, no makeup or dirt left but is gentle and soothing on the skin. I’m not totally over the textured but the pros outweigh the cons so I cannot complain.

What have you been enjoying this month, let me know it the comments I’d love to hear them.

Review: Collection Extreme 24 Hour Felt Tip Liner

For years I swore off liquid eyeliner, I loved the look of it but after finding it fiddly for ages I just gave up. About 18 months ago I got the L’Oreal Paris Super Liner in a little set free with purchase at Boots it sat there for a while but finally I thought I’d give it another go. Now I absolutely love a little touch of eyeliner on a simple makeup day or jazzing it up for a night out. So as a newer item to my makeup routine, I thought I would try something new and at the affordable end and that’s when I picked up the Collection Extreme 24 Hour Felt Tip Liner.

The Collection Extreme 24 Hour Felt Tip Liner is described on the Boots Website as: Be bold, bright and beautiful! These fast-drying versatile felt tip pens give your make-up look an instant burst of colour. Easy-to-apply felt tip nib for all day wear.”

I always comment on the packaging but realistically there is not much to say about this one, simple black packaging with silver text. Elegant and simple, just what’s needed. The liner pen is slightly thicker than a standard pen, but is comfortable to hold in your hand and provide enough control to get the line you want. I personally prefer a felt tip liner, for a liquid eyeliner as I just feel as though they are the easiest for beginners especially and is the easiest for straight application. All in all, nothing special but perfect for getting the job done.

The liner itself is a true black, deep and dark no need to work about a streaky grey tone you will have a true black liner. Although personally I find it difficult to differentiate and angle to change the line thickness, if you have more skill than me it may be possible for you to alter the line thickness. This is purely a skill thing, something I do not have must I can manage a variety of thickness so it theoretically should be possible.

Finally lets cover longevity? I haven’t put it to any extreme tests but I’ve worn it all day from 7am till evening as well as for a night out and have yet to run into any major issues. It stays put all day, no smudging or transfer looking as good as it did when you first put it on. One thing I will say is it takes a little bit of effort to come off but a good cleanser, or hold on a micellar soak cotton pad on for a few seconds and wipe away.

All in all I think this is a perfect budget eyeliner, blackest black and easy to apply and long lasting. No matter if you are new to eyeliner or just fancy trying out something new, this is one to try.

May Collective Haul

May Collective Haul

After a month off in April I am back with another monthly collective haul, once again with some of the goodies I picked up this month. So lets not beat around the bush and dive in.

May Collective Haul - Collection Extreme Eyeliner & George Matte Foundation

ASDA: I think Asda has to be one of my go to locations these days for basics as its so close to work and I can easily pop in or the way in or way home, it’s a trip to town these days for the likes of Boots/Superdrug so its definitely my go to. This month my liquid eyeliner dried up and in search of a new one I decided to give the Collection Extreme 24 Hour Felt Tip Liner in Black 2.98), I’m been trying it out recently and a review should be up in the next couple of weeks. I also feel like I need to try some more George makeup as you never know what gems you may find, so what I thought I would try the George Matte Foundation with Shine Control & Chamomile in Warm Ivory (£3.00) the colour seemed a good match and I feel like it will be good as we get into summer. I’ve posted my review of the George Matte Foundation earlier this week which you can find here.

May Collective Haul - The Body Shop Lightening Drops

The Body Shop: Recently I have been struggling with getting foundations to match even the ones I repurchase and have worked for years, I need to really look into some alternative brands and options but I don’t want what I have to go to waste. I’ve considered the The Body Shop Shade Adjusting Drops in Lightening (£10.00) for ages but haven’t had a huge need, so I finally gave in and will post a review once I’ve tried it out properly.

May Collective Haul - Kiko Milano Nail Varnish

Kiko Milano: Finally, I needed a new nail colour to go with my outfit for a work colleagues wedding reception, so I felt my best option was Kiko and I wasn’t wrong. I picked up the Kiko Milano Power Pro Nail Lacquer in 55 Coral Rose (£3.90), a perfect match to my dress and I love these nail polishes easy to apply and long lasting.

So sorry for this short post for this month’s collective haul, I really picked up bugger all this month. Fortunately, I’m waiting for one or two items to be delivered and I have to go and buy a new straightener this weekend so June’s collective haul should be more exciting.

April Favourites

April Favourites

Favourites time! Insert quick month typical monthly favourite beauty blogger introduction here, okay is that done it is time to talk about the products.

April Favourites Ft The Body Shop

Let’s start this month with a fragrance, and this time I have been loving the The Body Shop Vanilla Eau De Toilette, with a simple warm vanilla scent I have been loving the simplicity this month and it’s nice to change things up. I just thoroughly enjoyed stripping back the scents I use and this is perfect, plus I have always been obsessed with vanilla in every single way. Carrying on with the Body Shop trend after birthday goodies and my haul earlier this month I have been going Body Shop crazy. I have been really loving the The Body Shop Fuji Green Tea Sorbet, is my first time using a body sorbet and I love the gel like texture it’s so hydrating and doesn’t feel thick or heavy on the skin. I feel as though this would be refreshing in summer when you are burnt or hot and sticky.

April Favourites Ft NXY & Collection

As for makeup this month I haven’t really mixed things up that much, after doing my product testing I just kept on using the NXY Soft Matte Lip Cream in Cannes which you can find the full review for here. Although I do find the lasting power disappointing compared to other NXY Lip Creams I have owned I am obsessed with the colour so I am just putting up with the reapplication for now. Once again keeping this month short and sweet with only 4 products but I promise these will start to get longer again from next week. This finally favourite I feel is a little underappreciated but I’ve used it daily the past couple of months and I cannot do my makeup now without the Collection Primed & Ready Invisible Setting Powder. I’m definitely more of a pressed powder girl and this one is translucent so just sets rather than impacting my colour or balance I have set up, I also love that this has tea tree in it (not that is smells tea tree heavy), so I feel as though it is better for my skin.

What have you been loving this month, let me know in the comments below.

March Collective Haul

It’s that time again, monthly haul time. With gifts for my birthday I haven’t actually done a huge amount of buying this month just the 6 products included so not much of a haul. Still a little sneak peek coming up and amazingly despite my no buy rule I have purchased two lip products.

Primark: I’m not feeling the Primark clothing this season but I fell head over heels in love with this Winne the Pooh Travel Mug (£3.50), it’s so cute and not too childish. Perfect for morning when I need that second cup of coffee on the way to work, I cannot get enough of this mug. Although right now I have tended to prefer using a brush to apply my foundation at the moment I still love sponges for concealer plus it’s good to have some on hand therefore I picked up the PS 2pk Blender Sponge (£1.50).

george-tint-n-pout-lip-oil-in-barely-there

ASDA: I am the queen of failing my new year’s resolutions, or Beauty Resolutions for that matter. I definitely did not need another lip product, but I’ve never tried a lip oil before so maybe I can justify it in my head. You may have already see the review though, but this month I brought and tried the George Asda Tint and Pout Tinted Lip Oil (£4.00).

Boots Haul ft NXY and Collection

Boots: Seeing as it was my birthday I decided to treat myself to another NXY Soft Matte Lip Cream I love my other two shades with the vampy Copenhagen and bright San Paulo, I decided I wanted a more natural every day shade. I ended up picking up the NXY Soft Matte Lip Cream in Cannes, I’m testing it out now and if everything goes to plan the full review will be up in the next week or so. I also repurchased again the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in 01 Fair, simply a staple in my makeup collection that I would never be without.

Let me know in the comments what you have picked up recently and what should be on my shopping list.

Makeup Empties #1

makeup-empties-1

As part of my one in, one out resolution for new year I’ve got rid of my traditional empties and I’m focusing souly on makeup ones. So what have I used up in the past two month in terms of cosmetics.

makeup-empties-1-loreal-paris-ps-pro-primer

I find face products are definitely the ones I go through quickest and I cannot believe I have finished another L’oreal Paris True Match Foundation, it is definitely the best foundation I have ever used. I’ve also finished the PS Pro Primer, and you can check out my review here if you wish. All in all not a bad primer but the squeezy tube really helps maximise what you get out of it. I feel as though I finally finished this before Christmas and it has taken until now to include it in an empties post, still the Nivea Daily Essentials Express Hydration Primer has made it into a lot of empties over the past few years. This is a product I never want to do without in my makeup collection.

makeup-empties-1-nivea-collection

Everyone has their favourite basic brands and Collection is one of my favourites for face essentials for years I have used the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer and Collection Pressed Powder. So the cycle continues as these two have been used up, they have been replaced by themselves within my makeup routine.

Does anyone else keep holding on to out of date and dried up products just because you hate throwing them away? It’s taken over six months but I am finally parting ways with my BareMinreals Flawless Definition Mascara, this was an amazing mascara creating beautiful fluttery lashes with that bit of ompff. I will consider repurchasing in the future but the Revlon All-In-One Ultimate mascara is proving to be an approximate dupe and its cheaper so I will see how it goes.

makeup-empties-1-bareminerals-benefit

Finally, I have finished my Benefit Gimmie Brow sample, initially I was madly in love with this product I’d had my brows done at a Benefit Brow Bar and I used this daily afterword’s thinking wow my brows looked amazing. I then switch to a brow pencil and realised it wasn’t the Gimmie Brow that was good, it was my new brow shape I tend to have thick brows so the fibres are pretty much redundant for me. I think I’ll save my money and leave this for everyone else.

Let me know if you prefer this style empties just focusing on makeup, I feel like the reviews might be more valuable than endless shower gel ect with only the occasional makeup item. I’d appreciate the feedback so be sure to let me know.
