Go To Makeup

got to makeup

I was completely stuck on what to post and thought I haven’t done an ‘every day’ routine in a while, I much prefer these as I love known what people reach for and use every day. Also I always find it interesting to see what people do day-to-day as the difference in what people consider to be ‘essential’ varies. My ‘go-to’ makeup is what I wear daily to work, as weekends vary depending on plans from no makeup to the whole hog, so this is daily/work makeup routine.

go to makeup face ft nivea, rimmel and no 7

I feel like this product has started every single one my routines that I have done while having this blog but I don’t think my makeup sits right without it and it’s the Nivea Daily Essentials Express Hydration Primer, really hydrating. At the moment I am using the Rimmel London Match Perfection Foundation in Light Porcelain, I love the Rimmel foundations as they really work for me and have a good colour range. This is a good medium with medium coverage so it evens out and isn’t too heavy. Then to finish off my base I use the Rimmel London Wake Me Up Concealer under my eyes, it’s a great brightening concealer although I always tend to have slight darkness I feel though this works well.

Awake and natural is my go to look at the moment, looking fresh faced and youthful while it doesn’t look like I’m trying to yet and a great weapon in my arsenal is the No. 7 Pop & Glow Cream Blush Stick in Classic Rose, not heavy in colour in anyway but it adds a great flush to my face. The other benefit of a cream blush is that it lasts all day, and this one blends effortlessly so not much needs to be done. Finally to lock it all in a use a light dusting off Collection Pressed Powder in Ivory, I don’t use a lot just enough to help make it last. Once my face is on I use my Body Shop Mango Lip Butter ready for whatever I choose to use on my lips once I’ve finished, so they don’t dry out.

go to makeup eyes ft l'oreal paris, collection and bareminerals

The the eyes are super simple too, I use the L’Oreal Paris So Couture Super Liner to line my upper lid. It’s a deep black, as well as easy to use and manipulate to create the desired line and thickness. I tend to keep it simple though with a thin line close to the lash line to help define my eyes. Then for my lower lash line I use the Collection Colour Intense Kohl Pencil, which is my all-time favourite pencil. It just adds a little bit of something, minimal effort which provides a good amount of impact. To finish the eyes I use two mascaras, the old favourite BareMinerals Flawless Definition Mascara for my lower lash line as I love the narrower brush, then on my top lashes the L’Oreal Paris So Couture Volume Million Lashes (psst! full review here). Two great mascaras which define and add volume, I just love my eyes in this. The lips are inconsistent some days I use just a lip balm, while others I mix it up it is fairly inconsistent and goes on a whim really.

What are your go to products? What products can you simply not get enough of?

2015 Favourites

Wow 2015 went bloody quick, I cannot believe it is January already. So I thought I would take one more look back on 2015 with a look at all the products which I have loved the most over 2015, most of these have appeared in a favourites or two and these are the ultimate favourites of the year.

Starting off is with a concealer I have repurchased twice this year the Rimmel London Wake Me Up! Concealer in Ivory, this is a great under eye concealer like the wake me up foundation really brightens and wakes up the face. You’ll never be able to tell you have huge dark circles from lack of sleep and long days of work.

Although mentioned at various points I don’t feel as though I’ve shared my love of this enough over the year, the Rimmel London Exaggerate Lip Liner in East End Snob is a beautiful Kylie Jenner type lip colour. On its own or under something else, I have used two of these and have two more currently in my makeup stash its often sold out so I stock up when I manage to find it in stores. You can read the review here.

2015 eye ft urban decay, maybelline & bareminerals

For more than a year now I have being loving pinky neutral eyes, it complements a fair skin tone and contrasts my blue eyes. I’ve been loving the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette ever since I first got it and I’ve written and extensive review of the palette which you can read here. It’s just highly versatile and I reach for it day after day, for work, for nights out its endlessly versatile and so damn pretty. Along with this is something I brought the second half of the year, the Maybelline Colour Tattoo Gel-Crème Eyeshadow in Pink Gold perfect on its own or as a base for any look I create with the Naked 3. I just love how pretty and how long lasting it is, I think I may try more of the range but due to its ease to fit my makeup it slips perfectly into my collection.Just a brief mention of the Urban Decay Primer Potion, I mention it all the time with any routine and it several favourites. The travel size is all you need as this has lasted me forever despite only being the travel size you don’t need anything more.

Most of the time, high end mascaras including the Benefit Roller lash end up disappointing me as I find better budget counter parts the Bare Minerals Flawless Definition Mascara is worth the money. Its narrow brush allows you to get right to the root in which helps add volume and definition to your lashes. It layers up without clumping and just leaves your lashes looking volumous and fluttery.

2015 hair ft tangle teezer

Although a pastel blue shade is not suitable for this time of year, the Barry M Speed Dry in Eat My Dust has seen so much use this work. This was my favourite shade of the speed dry collection and I would endlessly repaint my nails with it. My other go to choice this year was the Illimasqua Nail Polish in Viridian, a beautiful deep forest green which oddly reminded me of Christmas a lot. It was the perfect shade for winter still dark and metallic but slightly different due to the green hue.

Miceller Waters have really transformed my skincare and makeup removal, so easy to use perfect for if you are a little bit lazy bit they throughly clean and cleanse your skin. My favourite out the ones I’ve tried was the Ganier Miceller Cleansing Water, it’s a huge bottle and lasts ages. I’ve also brought the travel size which was great for travel, I highly recommend giving it ago if you haven’t already.

Another brief mention here of the Nivea Daily Essentials Express Hydration Primer, I’ve mentioned it loads over the 18months I’ve been blogging and I’ve been using it for three or four years now. It’s such a deeply moisturising primer that really leaves your skin feeling fresh.

For years I always struggled to find a brush that went through my hair, so for years I used one of my mums old brushes from the 80s which was really good but I wanted to find something better. I don’t know why I put of using the Tangle Teezer for so long but they are worth the investment as they brush through so well and so easily. I’ve also fallen in love with Hair Oils although there is no particular oil I’ve loved more than any other but they’ve left my hair feeling soft and silky, I also find the smell delightfully. I have the Umberto Giannini Miracle Worker with Argan Oil which is my favourite and and I’ve used sparingly throughout using the others, you can read my first impressions review of it from this time last year here.

So that’s what I’ve loved throughout 2015, what have you loved using or trying throughout 2015? Also what are you looking forward in 2016?

Christmas Day Makeup

Christmas Day Makeup

Christmas is fast approaching so I thought I would do a quick post of what makeup I will probably be wearing on Christmas Day, this year it is just the three of us just me and my parents so it is a quiet low key kind of day. Due to this I will just do a light and fresh makeup look really with a small dash of sparkle, so it’s not really an inspiration for your looks but it’s a very different Christmas Day look to most others and I thought it would be nice to include it.

xmas makeup ft bareminerals and nivea

First up as always I will moisturise and prep my skin with the Nivea Daily Essentials Express Hydration Primer, one of my favourite products and I rarely start my makeup routine without it. Then to extend the life of my makeup I apply the bareMinerals Prime Time Primer in the areas where it seems to disappear first. I adore this primer although it is on its last legs as I use it sparingly, best primer ever although it’s on the pricer side. I decided in order to keep the look fresh that I would opt for my bareminerals foundation and concealer therefore the concealer goes first. Using a combination of concealers with Rimmel London Wake Me Up Concealer in Ivory to brighten my under eyes and the Rimmel London Lasting Finish Concealer in Porcelain to hide any blemishes etc. Finishing off with my bareMinerals Original Foundation in Light applying it with my bareMinerals Flawless Face Brush which just creates a light and airbrushed look to your face while feeling like you are wearing nothing at all. I finished up with the beautiful MUA Blush in Cupcake, which is more of a dusty pink and a definite dupe for the likes of NARS Sin and it is perfect for this time of year, applying this with The Body Shop Blush Brush.

xmas makeup ft bareminerals and rimmel

As always whenever I do anything with my eyes I use the Urban Decay Primer Potion, you need this in your life for crease free long lasting eye makeup. I created a subtle and natural eye look using the Avon Eyeshadow Duo in Warm Cashmere using the lighter colour all over the lid and adding definition with the darker shade. I then added a very thin delicate addition of the P.S. Love Liquid Eyeliner in black just finish it off. I wanted big but non-false lashes so I brought back the L’Oreal Paris Miss Manga Punky Mascara in Black, which I reviewed earlier in the year. When you get it right into the lash line and combine that with the formula and brush you get full thick and slightly clumped lashes.

xmas make ft avon, loreal, ps love & urban decay

I am going super simple on the lips with my favourite lip combination not only of the moment but of the year using Rimmel London Exaggerate Lip Liner in East End Snob and the PurMinerals Lipgloss. Which creates a beautiful lip look which I cannot get enough of really.

xmas makeup ft rimmel and purminerals

So it’s not exactly an exciting makeup look but this is what I will be wearing on Christmas Day, comfortable and simple and sort of reflects the kind of day I will be having. In fact after doing this look for the blog post I went to work as it is a really diverse look (and I needed to multitask to complete the post). What type of makeup look do you tend to do for Christmas Day?

Peterborough Haul

Peterborough

So if you’ve seen my Day in the Life: Girly Catch-up & Shopping Post you will know I spent a girly day shopping in Peterborough with a few friends and I thought I’d share the spoils of the day with you guys here.

H&M Stripped SweaterH&M Leggings

The first port of call was H&M I needed some new treggings/leggings as I’ve worn my last couple of pairs to death. I’ve never tried their Heavy Leggings (£7.99) before but they aren’t see through and I thought I would give them a go. If they are a dud I will go back to their treggings which are amazing. Also as we are getting into winter I wanted another slouchy relaxed jumper like this Stripped Relaxed Jumper (£9.99), it is super casual so you can slouch around the house. Also you can pair it with a leather jacket and some cute boots and wear it for a causal day out.

Primark Haul ft eyeliner and cami dress

You cannot go shopping without popping to Primark, although I haven’t brought many clothes recently as I’m trying to wear what I have instead of constantly buying clothes I will never wear. However, I did buy a new basic top a Grey Cami Dress (£3.00), I would never wear these as a dress but I prefer the longer length with leggings. These basics are perfect for layering at winter.

I always love the look of mixed, midi and stacked rings but I didn’t want to spend a huge amount until I knew that I liked the look and feel of wearing them. So I thought the Opia Silver Mixed Ring Pack (£2.50) would be a good place to start, Primark has loads of these cute sets I just prefer silver in my jewellery. I picked up another P.S. Love Egg Makeup Sponge (£1.50), these have transformed my makeup application and just make it so much smother and airbrushed looking. I was it every day, and buy a new one every ¾ months as they start to fall apart. I don’t know if the Real Techniques one to lasts longer, so let me know in the comments. The final thing I picked up was the P.S. Love Black Liquid Eyeliner (£1.00), this is actually a beautiful streak free and deep black eyeliner the only problem is I need to work on my liquid eyeliner skills.

Boots ft Rimmel and L'oreal

There were some great offers in Boots, first I needed some more Micellar Water I’ve tried and loved the L’Oreal and Ganier Micellar Water. However with the Boots app providing me £2.00 of L’Oreal Paris Skincare, it made sense to use buy the L’Oreal Paris Skin Perfection Micellar Water (£2.99). I needed a new concealer and primer and I ws comtemplating not repurchasing the Rimmel London Wake Me Up Concealer in Ivory for the 3rd time in a row but with it being on offer for 2 for £10.00 in made sense to repurchase it. I also picked up the Rimmel London Lasting Finish Primer which I have loved using a budget alternative to my bareMinerals Primer.

Superdrug ft my little starteddy cotton pads

Finally some essentials from Superdrug. I wanted to get some softer cotton wool pads so I thought I would go back to using the baby cotton wool pads, which has the bonus of having super cute teddy bears on the pads. I picked up two packs of My Little Star Small Square Cotton Wool Pads, retailing at £1.49 each but as they were buy one get one half price it made sense with such basics to buy two as you know that you will get the use out of both packs and save money. Also I repurchased the Carex Complete Strawberry Laces Hand Gel (£0.99), which smells like a Strawberry Daiquiri which is so refreshing and pleasant when you need to clean your hands.

So that’s what I picked up at my shopping trip in Peterborough, actually getting what I need which is a first especially when shopping with friends.

Graduation Day

I've Graduated

So if you’ve seen my life update, you will have seen I graduated on the 10th September, with a Upper Second Class Honours in Economics from the University of Hertfordshire. It’s a nice little ceremony in St Albans Cathedral, which is a beautiful venue, and I feel like it was such a great event, I thought I’d do a little bit of a post about my outfit, makeup and just some nice snaps from the day.

Graduation Outfit

I didn’t set out to buy a brand new dress for graduation and if I brought something new I wanted to be able to reware it, I own enough clothes as it is, buying more only seems excessive at this point. Yet a few weeks before my graduation I found this super cute tea dress on sale in Apricot for £15.00, irresistibly cute I had to have it. With the graduation sash being white and silver most outfit choices were going to go but I feel as though the mint green pops on this outfit really set it off. I wanted to keep my shoes simple too and nothing too high, so I went for a pair of comfy favourites. I have no idea what brand these are and I’ve had them a few years but they never do me wrong, as a pair of nudes with a cute bow are suitable for all occasions and go with all outfits really, you just can wear black tights with them. I feel like the whole outfit fit the sense of the occasion without being too dressy or anything too much.

With my hair I kept it super simple, I had being tempted to curl it but I didn’t want the curls to drop and I needed a style in which the cap would fit. To me straightened hair seemed the most appropriate it looks nice and I didn’t have to worry about it, just a touch of hair spray in the hope of not getting hat hair and some grips to keep everything in place.

The makeup was all about being long lasting and looking nice in photographs, after all I’ll have these for the rest of my life so looking nice is important and I’ll be full faced in make up for 8 to 10 hours and it needed to remain flawless the entire time. I do have makeup envy of my friend Enxhi who went for it a bit more but then she was topping up her face every hour which seemed to take its toll.

Graduation Makeuo

I went for pretty much double priming my face starting with a very simple base of the Rimmel London Lasting Finish Primer, which really hydrates and preps the team. Pairing this with my bareMinerals Prime Time Original Foundation Primer, which is my favourite primer and simply put this in the areas where my makeup tends to fade first. For my makeup I decided to opt for my lighter foundation and I know this isn’t that light but my other one is proper full coverage and I was in the mood for a lighter look that the L’Oreal Paris True Match Foundation in Rosy Ivory provides. Then obviously to make myself flawless I concealer is needed using the Rimmel London Wake Me Up Concealer in Ivory under my eyes and where I want it to be brightened. With the Rimmel London Lasting Finish Concealer in Porcelain, covering my blemishes etc. leading to a really flawless face. I didn’t feel like having much colour on my cheeks or extreme bronze etc. so I used my Maybelline New York Color Show Blush Em! which due to its lacking in pigment it just adds a beautiful subtle flush of colour.

Now onto the eyes which because none of the palettes do shadow names its hard to say how I created the look, but I went for a nice transitional brown eyeshadow look as I didn’t want something ott. Obviously I used my trusty Urban Decay Primer Potion, as a based to help it stay where I would be without it, I have no idea. Then I used a combination of the No 7 Mini Eyeshadow Palette and a shade from the Wet n Wild Comfort Zone Palette to create the complete look. To make it a touch more glam I used the champagne glittery loose pigment that is the bareMinerals Eyeshadow in Flawless Diamond which just made it glitter and really set off the look. Finishing it off with lashings of the bareMinerals Flawless Definition Mascara. As I kept putting off buying a setting spray for so long I never did it I used the good old hairspray trick of setting your makeup, which actually works better than setting spray. Although it’s not ideal and you are definitely best leaving it for one offs opposed to everyday. Then to finish it off and to set everything I used the bareMinerals Original Foundation in N10 Fairly Light. Nothing to over the top but mood appropriate.

Graduation Day
The final touch was a pretty manicure which is curtsy of Primark, I wasn’t going to spend loads on getting my nails done, and I didn’t want to keep them on for ages because they aren’t practical for work. These super cute flower detail nails are from Primark and they are simply adorable. They lasted the entire time and I even got a few complements about them.

So that’s what I wore for my graduation, nothing too fancy but something a bit nice. It was a great day and I’m so proud of everyone for getting to this point, it is a little bit odd not to be returning to education this year but I’m working and I’m excited for all the things I can do in life. To those of you who are contining or starting further education, make the most of it enjoy the experience while you can but make sure you work it can influence the rest of your life and it is possible to have fun and do well. I wish you all the best.

Empties #8

Empties #8

Another empties for you again today, something that I feel as though I am always doing so I like to spread them out and they end up backing up. Saying that I am unsure if I would want to do a monthly empties as I feel as though it might be loads one month and nothing the next. My current method I feel as though works as I make the post when it feels worth it to do so, so let me know what you think monthly empties or when I have a significant amount of empties. This is a long once so brace yourself.

makeup empties

Soap and Glory Kick Ass Concealer in Light: This was a huge dud for me, not only was it was too dark but the texture was completely wrong for me, making my skin look dried out and barely blending. I was initially put off by the too dark colour but tried it anyway for review purposes, I was so disappointed I never got round to the review. I finally managed to finish it by using it as a eyeshadow primer as its still a better primer that the soap and glory eyeshadow primer and I hate wasting my money.

Would I repurchase this: bottom line, no. There are way better stick concealers out there or even doe foot concealers in the drug store for much less.

Soap and Glory It’s About Prime Eyeshadow Primer: This was another Soap and Glory dud and if you’ve gathered from above it was useless. It barely extended the life of my eyeshadow and worst of all it made primers that didn’t crease previously, crease when using this underneath. Also for the same price you can get a travel sized Urban Decay Primer Potion, and the urban decay travel sized contains more. So spend your money on the urban decay primer potion faultless and it costs the same. I don’t know if the other colour is better as I have the nude champagne colour but I’m not willing to try.

Would I repurchase this: another rather obvious no, opt for urban decay travel size as mentioned above same price for slightly more.

Off topic but am I the only one who Soap and Glory products don’t work for, I haven’t tried the brow products and the bronzer is alright. I think it is an occasion where it is a brand that doesn’t work for me but if it works for you go for it. Still there skin care and bath products are in general really good but I think I won’t bother with the makeup anymore.

Rimmel Fix & Perfect Pro Primer: I’m still not sure who recommended this one to me and it was you I’m so sorry, this is amazing. My favourite primer is still probably my bareMineral primer but this is way more affordable and will be one that I will continue to purchase. A thick cream primer that just sets up your skin nicely and meshs well with other Rimmel Foundations. Personally I find that Rimmel does some of the best foundations within the drug store, does anyone else find this?

Would I repurchase this: most definitely.

Rimmel London Wake Me Up Concealer in Ivory: This is a great concealer and a good level of brightening as it is the wake me up formula, it is definitely more of under eye rather than a spot concealer due to the brightening properties but it’s a very good drug store concealer.

Would I repurchase this: yes I already have a second one.

Saiva Med Lip Care: I’ve had this for ages and its started to look a bit off so I’m getting rid of it. It has no scent but is great at treating and hydrating the lips and I’m trying to look out for another one, only problem is my mum picked it up in Lidli so I might have to get looking online.

Would I repurchase this: If I ever find it again yes, great for treating damaged lips.

P.S. Love Egg Shaped Makeup Sponge: This has done me since February/March time I think but it’s got passed its best and it just looks worse for wear every time I attempt to clean it. Although it is fairly firm I really love applying my make up with this it just blends everything so easily and helps me look flawless.

Would I repurchase this: I already have.

skincare empties

Lacura Facial Cleansing Wipes for Normal Skin: These I picked up from Aldi on a whim as I thought tesco had stopped doing their everyday wipes but magically they are back. These were alright as far as wipes go and they were relatively inexpensive although I cannot remember the exact price, less than £1.00 anyway. Generally really good and managed to move most of the makeup. Good for if you want to take makeup off before doing a proper routine later or just to clean up your face part way through the day if it’s a bit grimy.

Would I repurchase: probably, not in a rush to repurchase but I wouldn’t not get them again.

Superdrug Deep Action Anti-Blemish Gel: Most of my skin problems are hormonal, time of the month and all that, so I cannot prevent them and all I really have to do is make an effort to reduce them. This is where this came in handy, in order to reduce spots especially the big ones that seem to magically appear and you think you’d need a miracle to get rid of them. Sure they aren’t magically gone in 12 hours but when does that ever happen. It does however, significantly reduce the amount of time it’s there.

Would I repurchase: Yes, I already have but I always wait until superdrug has a regular offer such as 1/3-1/2 off own brand skincare.

Superdrug Deep Cleansing Facial Sheet Mask: I love sheet masks as they are so simple yet this was a bit of a miss for me, I love there refreshing sheet mask. This semi stung when it tingled and smelt like old talcum powder, yeah so basically not worth it.

Would I repurchase: No way!

The Body Shop Vitamin E Cream Cleanser and The Body Shop Vitamin E Hydrating Toner (Travel Sizes/60ml): I am doing these as a pair as I’m only used these as a pair, I have mentioned them in previous posts and I really enjoy them. I am not sure how to describe the scent but it’s very subtle, and they go on so smooth and easily leaving your skin feeling amazing. Also they are highly effective at removing makeup

Would I repurchase: probably.

Simple Kind to Skin + Brightening Eye Makeup Remover Pads: I got these for travelling which you will be able to see in my travel toiletries post here. These are so-so they do a decent job at removing makeup but not perfect, I prefer the Halo eye makeup remover pads. They are good for travel and not a bad buy. Yet with the travel size make up removers and cleansers becoming more common I think I am less likely to buy these sorts of things while travelling.

Would I repurchase: unsure.

deoderant empties

It is somewhat worrying that I have enough deodorants to warrant to move them out of random and move them in to a section of them own. To be honest two of them are miniatures which makes it slightly better.

Sanex Dermo Pro Hydrate Anti-Perspirant Deodorant: I think this was in my last empties too as I brought them on a multi-buy offer, I am not loyal to any one deodorant I just tend to buy what’s on offer. Yeah its alright and does its job there isn’t much to say.

Would I repurchase: yeah why not.

Dove Go Fresh Anti-Perspirant in Pomegranate and Lemon Verbena (Travel Size): Although these travel sized ones aren’t value for money, I find them so irresistible and cute I cannot help buying them. Also in the summer months it’s sometimes nice to keep one in your bag because you know sweat. This is my all-time favourite deodorant scents and I regularly buy the full size version of this.

Would I repurchase: Yes!

Sure Women Long Lasting Protection in Bright (Travel Size): I never normally get sure products but I wanted another miniature and this seemed like the best option. I actually thoroughly enjoyed it and might look to try more sure deodorants in future:

Would I repurchase: Probably.

random empties

Colgate FluriGard Daily Rinse: I love this mouth wash, it really freshens your breath and cleans your mouth. I know most of the time all mouth washes do the same thing and this is on the pricier side of mouth wash but I couldn’t imagine using anything else. It was first recommended to me by my orthodontist when I got my braces when I was 10/11, so yeah I’ve been using this for a good 10 years now I’m not going back now.

Would I repurchase: Definitely.

Nailene Ultra Quick Nail Glue: I tend to buy primark nails as they are so pretty and tend to be well made, especially for £1-£2.00 per set but the glue is a bit so-so. Therefore I buy this amazing nailene glue, it really does the job and takes ages to dry up so I can take ages between wearing false nails. Highly recommend it for whatever nails you buy and buying this for one set of Primark nails is cheaper than buying an elegant touch set and they look just as good.

Would I repurchase: Definitely.

Quite a healthy mix of empties this time. Have you tried any of these products and if so what did you think of them.

Morrison’s Sensitive Aloe Vera Shave Gel: I’ve gone through a number of these now and I know it has appeared in a few empties, it is a brilliant inexpensive shave gel and leaves my legs soft and smooth. This is a staple in my bathroom cabinet.

Would I repurchase: I always do.

Gillette Satin Care Pure & Delicate Shave Gel: I actually liked having the smaller size for ease of travel, meaning I could keep having soft legs while away as I feel like shave gel makes such a different. I will definitely look a pick up the smaller sizes if I’m going away again it is definitely worth it.

Would I repurchase: yes.

Cussons Carex Complete Strawberry Laces Refreshing Hand Gel: I think I have mentioned it before that I don’t like alcohol smelling gels. This didn’t smell like strawberry laces but it had that synthetic strawberry scent and I really enjoyed it, other than the smell it’s a hand gel and does its job a definate must in my bags.

Would I repurchase: yes but I’m not fused by what my hand gel I have as long as I have one.

Argan Oil Deep Moisturising Foot Pack: I love foot packs but this one left my feet feeling super odd, I think I’ll go back to the peppermint or tea tree foot packs from now on.

Would I repurchase: no.

Phew! That’s everything and it can now all go into my recycling, well everything that is recyclable of courses. Have you tried any of these and what did you think of them.

Faces of The Week: Part One

I thought it would be fun to do like a week in workwear type thing, but I have no tripod or anyone to photograph the outfits and I’m not much of a fashion blogger. So I thought I would do a faces of the week, showing what type of makeup I ware for work each day. So you can get to see a variety of work suitable makeup looks, I also thought this would inspire me to use more of my products as I try to create 5 slightly varied looks.

As I started writing it up, the length of the post seemed to get ridiculous as I think I might waffle too much but then I also suck at cutting things out. Luckily I am planning to go out on Saturday night so I can put three days here and three days in a follow up post on Tuesday. I hope you enjoy.

Mondays makeup ft ps love, rimmel

Monday

I also start with a decent base, I’m back on using my favourite moisturising primer Nivea Daily Essentials Express Hydration Primer it is definitely more moisturising than priming but it is a good strong base. As my core foundation, Rimmel London Lasting Finish Foundation in 010 Light Porcelain, is slightly too light I mix it with Bourjois Paris 123 Perfect CC Cream in 31 Ivory, an Ivory which is by no means Ivory but a great foundation, so I mix them just to gain the right colour. I also use my P.S. Love Egg shaped sponge to apply and blend as I feel as though it offers the smoothest blending. To cover up any dark circles and spots I used my Rimmel London Lasting Finish Concealer in 010 Porcelain, a great heavy duty concealer which takes quite a bit of blending but once you get the hang it, it’s a decent concealer.

I’m currently trying the pretty Maybelline Color Show Blush Em! Which just adds a small touch of flush as it isn’t quite as pigmented as I maybe would have liked but it’s workable and it just needs building up. Then finally to set my makeup I use my bareMinerals Mineral Veil, a beautiful light translucent powder that sets up doesn’t look cakey.

I always prime my eyes, not all of my eyeshadows require it but I do it just in case to simply ensure they last all day. My favourite eye primer is the Urban Decay Primer Potion, just a little bit goes such a long way. To create Mondays eye look I used my MUA Luxe Pretty Edgy Eyeshadow Palette, I started with Bow all over the lid, building up definition with a touch of Flounce in the crease and finishing it all off with Antique as an inner corner highlight to finish off the look. To finish off the eyes I just use the P.S. Love Lift and Curl Mascara, which add volume and good curl to the lashes. It is also similar to the Benefit Roller Lash just much cheaper so it is worth picking up.

I finished up with a pinky berry type lip, which as a high shine crayon adds more of a wash of colour opposed to something more heavy duty.  I like these types of colour but definitely prefer them that are sheerer, so the No7 High Shine Crayon in Statement is perfect.

As well as the P.S. Love Egg Sponge the other tools I used was my trusty Cosmopolitan Blush Brush, my favourite powder brush which I only use with my mineral makeup which is the bareMinerals Full Flawless Face Brush. The final brush I used was the best double use brush the bareMinerals Tapered Shadow and Crease brush, which is super useful as you only need one brush.

Tuesdays Makeup ft No 7, bareminerals and urbandecay

Tuesday morning never feels quite as bad as waking up at the same time on a Monday, I mean I only get up at 6:45 it isn’t exactly the worst. I started Tuesday with a new primer to me as my last primer ran out which seems to start of this running theme of brands. I am finding with drugstore primers I am preferring the more moisturising primers and the Rimmel London Lasting Finish Primer is no exception thick and creamy it creates a smooth base for my face, and I really enjoy the feel of it on my skin. Although I am using a sample version of L’Oreal True Match Foundation in Rosy Ivory I have had it before and I’m considering buying a new one as soon as my current foundation runs out. Although I have a love/hate relationship with this depending if my skin is going through a dry patch or not. I also used two concealers this time using the Rimmel Lasting Finish Concealer in 010 Porecelain for spot and blemishes while I used the Rimmel London Wake Me Up Concealer to brighten up and conceal my under eyes. I’m a total sponge convert with applying my base stuff, I am definitely considering trying out the Real Techniques sponge if anyone has tried it let me know what you think of it.

I’ve been obsessed with both of these recently, you’ve already seen the bareMinerals Mineral Veil yesterday and to add to this, I absolutely love my bareMinerals Luminary Blush in Sunwashed Berry. I only used a small pop of it for this days look simply to keep it simple and subtle next to my bright coral dress for the day. For both of these I use the bareMinerals Flawless Face brushes one big one small, the set came with the brushes and I have found that the bareMinerals are definitely the best brushes for mineral makeup.

Since last October when I first tried and then became hooked on the Urban Decay Primer Potion, I have no idea how good eyeshadows perform on their own. Yet all of my eye looks look perfect and last all day, like the neutral eye look I created with my No 7 Mini Eyeshadow Palette using a mixture of colours from the top row and using a darker one from the bottom as eyeliner. To apply the eyeshadow I used a Wilko Eyeshadow brush to apply the colour, a Body Shop Eyeshadow Blender Blush to blend out the crease, and the Body Shop Slanted brush to line the eye. Then as my mascara I used the bareMinerals Flawless Definition Mascara, which really opens the eyes and I absolutely love it.

Due to the bright coral of my dress I also wanted to play down the lips too I simply dabble a bit of my Rimmel London Keep Calm Lip Balm, no harm in keeping my lips hydrated.  I also used a touch of my travel size Elizabeth Arden Pretty which is just a really girly scent.

Wednesday Makeup ft no 7, bareminerals, loreal

On Wednesday I wore the same bases as I did on Tuesday, there are only so many bases a normal person has and these were still on my dresser top as I needed to photograph Tuesday’s makeup still. At 7am I am too lazy to put too much thought into it, if its’ there I will use it. So I feel as though there is no point mentioning the base again. The only switch up was I used the Purminerals Blush in Armour which is a reddy bricky type colour and it was nice to wear for a change as it’s such a simple blush and I rarely get the use out of it so it was nice to switch it up

Once again I started my eyes with the Urban Decay Primer Potion, I don’t think I will ever go without it apart from with cream eyeshadows. Once again I reached for my No7 palette probably because it was out and made another simple natural eyes. It has become my go to palette for work looks as you cannot go wrong with it really especially using just the top line. This may or may not be appearing in my monthly favourites. I then finished my eyes off with the P.S. Love Lift and Curl and Mascara.

For my lips I used my all-time favourite lip liner, the Rimmel London Exagerate Lipliner in 063 East End Snob a typical and beautiful Kylie Jenner lip colour. I wrote a review for it earlier in the year which you can read here, this is my third one now, it is pretty much a staple in my collection now. Then over the top I used a P.S. Love Gloss Stick, I initially hated this when I brought it super greasy and it is so I would never wear it on its own (see review here). However, when placed over the matte lipliner you don’t feel it or not so badly as the matte lip liner is slightly on the drying side.

Despite being in a zombie like state of not enough sleep, I am super pleased with Wednesdays Look.

So those were my makeup looks for the first half of the week, super simple because no one at 7am can be bothered with too much effort? What are your key daily products for creating a makeup look for work. The post for the second half of this weeks makeup will be up on Tuesday.

Review: Rimmel London 9-in-1 BB Cream

rimmel 9-in-1 bb cream

As summer approaches we all start to think about lighter coverage foundations making us look flawless yet without it feeling too heavy. One approach is to follow the BB trend which I’ve always loved the idea of but I’ve never found one in a light enough shade most others been too dark in a light shade when I have a ‘tan’ it was nice to find something that is much lighter. So when I found the very light shade in the Rimmel London BB creams I was so excited, plus they have 3 different types of BB creams the one I selected to try is the 9-in-1 BB cream. The Rimmel London 9-in-1 BB Cream promises to prime, moisturise, minimise the appearance of pores, conceal, cover, smooth, mattify, brighten and protects with SPF 25. Some tall orders for a BB cream so how well does it achieve these.

Rimmel 9-in-1 cream

The first promise it makes is its priming ability and I find this an odd one to judge as I do not anything to compare it to as a primer makes a solid base for foundation and allows it to last longer. It does last well throughout the day but I feel as though the primer is hard to test so it is sort of added for the sake of it, they might of well of simply said long lasting. The mositursing claim is similar, it may not dry out my skin but I would not call it really moistursing, I’d definitely still put one on before hand. Yet with a moisturiser been central to any skin care routine and it not being a drying bb cream I doubt anyone would notice.

This is another two that seems odd it will mattify and brighten, two things that never normally appear together. I am aware that brightening is more about the colour than the finish but if I wanted a brightening bb cream I would go for one that had a dewy finish but it definitely has more of a brightening colour with the yellowish undertones. I would say it is somewhat mattifying but without oily skin I find it interesting.

I also don’t feel as though it does minimise pores but this is one that is always debatable. On a positive note however, it definitely covers and to an extent conceals. Although you may still need some concealer it really evens out the skin tone and is a really light base. I’ll let you judge the cover and conceal factor from the pictures below. Apologises is advance for the hair, I have very little time with exam at the moment so I’ve done my blog pictures on a free afternoon between washing my hair and doing more revision.

My face with nothing on at all with uneven skin tone and blemishes. Not a good skin day.

just rimmel bb cream

So here I am with just the BB cream by skin tone is evened out and the blemish on my chin diminished. Only slight colour round the eyes due to sleepless nights due to revision and serve hay fever.

Finally just a natural but full face of make up with the Rimmel BB Cream as a base, not bad if I do say so myself.

Finally just a natural but full face of make up with the Rimmel BB Cream as a base, not bad if I do say so myself.

The BB cream itself has a thick creamy texture that you fully need to work into the skin with your hands in order to have a smooth even coverage. A little goes an long way and you barely feel like you are hardly wearing anything at all, and it just really creates a natural look and a great base. I think I may use it more and more as summer gets underway.

Rimmel Base Comparisons

I decided to a little a little comparison between the colour of this bb cream and my Rimmel London Lasting Finish Full Coverage Foundation,as can be seen above. The clearest difference is the undertone the Lasting Finish Foundation having more pinky to neutral under tone while the BB cream has a yellow undertone which reflects the claim of brightening. The undertone should not worry you though I have a pink under tone and I do not feel as though it looks wrong on my skin tone. As it can be seen both are thick, pigmented and could go forever.

I will definitely be using this loads over the summer months and may even repurchase it next summer as it finally a bb cream in which the colour is light enough for me to wear. Its creamy and everything I wanted, so well done Rimmel for a great bb cream even if it doesn’t meet every claim it is still a great product.

Rimmel London’s 9-in-1 BB Cream is available in the likes of Boots and Superdrug, as well as other Rimmel London stockists for £6.99.

Superdrug Haul (Again)

Superdrug Haul ft rimmel and barry m

Once again I fell victim to offers in Superdrug and couldn’t resist it. So Superdrug did the 3 for 2 across makeup as well as the get 3 items and get a make up bag, I took full advantage of the 3 for 2 but I didn’t see the point in getting 3 makeup bags simply because I don’t need two identical makeup bags. Also I’m 21 the ‘#makeup’ has minimum appeal to me really. Also the cashier was lovely wanting to scan the items so I got the most out of it all in all saving me £11.99 taking my total from £35.45 to £23.46 so I love her for that. So anyway on to what I brought.

Rimmel London Lasting Finish Skin Perfecting Full Coverage Foundation in 010 Light Porcelain: I love a full coverage foundation and I thought I’d give this ago I love Rimmel Foundations especially the wake me up the foundation. I know it seems crazy that I am opting for a full coverage foundation in the summer but it will be great for interviews to have a perfectly made up face as its a perfect colour it won’t look like heavy make up. I also Love how rimmel goes so light with shades. RRP: £7.99.

Rimmel London Lasting Finish Concealer in 010 Porcelain: I always want to try new concealers and this ones is slightly different to the normal doe foot or brush type concealers and I was curious. I think I originally saw it on Vivianna Does Makeup Channel on youtube, so it makes you more curious than simply seeing it online. RRP £5.49.

Rimmel London BB Cream 9-in-1 in Very Light: I wasn’t sure which BB to go for this one or the radiance one which I suppose will be similar to the wake me up foundation line but I went for this. I also love that rimmel do a very light bb cream as often the shade light is not usually light enough so I was so excited for this. RRP £6.99.

Rimmel London Fix and Perfect Pro Primer: This was recommended to me ages ago by someone (if it was you I’m so sorry I’ve forgotten) but I wanted to wait until I used up my baby skin primers were used or almost used up. This is more of a cream texture opposed to some of the silicon primers I have used in the past but I’m excited to try this and see how it fits especially as I have normal to dry skin this may be great for me. RRP £6.99.

Barry M Speedy Quick Dry Nail Paint in 450 Eat Me Dust: I really wanted some pretty pastel colours for spring/summer and I fell in love with this pretty pale blue, I think I may of also seen this on vivanna’s youtube too. I absolutely love it and I think I’m going to get a lot of use out of it this summer. RRP £3.99.

Barry M Speedy Quick Dry Nail Paint in 503 Kiss Me Quick: Another pretty pastel in time for summer, I love pretty pink pastels as they are a great mix of nude and summery colours. I think I will also get loads of use out of this one. RRP £3.99.

Luckily I didn’t come out of superdrug with too much that I didn’t need and I’m excited to try it all out, I aim to do a review of a few of the items especially the bb cream as it is ideal for summer.

Lots of Love

Empties #5

1

As I seem to go through phrases of empties everything I own seems to be running out out of everything simultaneously at the moment in massive lumps and chunks. I think it seems like more as everything that seems to last forever have run out at a similar time so its a big bunch. Anyway you guys know the drill, you look at my rubbish and I give you guys a mini review of it. So I apologise that it hasn’t been long since my last empties these things happen as I’ve had so many empties lately.

Make Up

Nivea Daily Essentials Express Hydration Primer for Dry & Sensitive Skin: I absolutely love this stuff, it will forever be a part of my make up routine. I am indifferent to the normal vs. sensitive so I just pick up what ever is there or on offer as I have normal to dry skin and they both work amazingly. I had dreadfully dry skin over the start of the year and this was such a life saver just adding a super moisturising base for my make up.

Natural Collection Pressed Powder in Cool: I’ve had this for ages but kept putting off using for ages as it had cracked but at home its not that messy to use and I have so many opened pressed powders I thought I just need to use it. This used to be my favourite before trying the Collection Pressed Powder, it is still a great powder and is really inexpensive I just much prefer the collection powder and as Superdrug is more convenient to me so its easier to grab collection.

Collection Pressed Powder in 18 Ivory: As I’ve mentioned above this is my all time favourite powder and I’ve already go a replacement, it is nice they go so light with the powder colours but it doesn’t look to chalky or white on the skin. If you are a pale girl I suggest trying it as it is only £2 ish.

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in 1 Fair: This is one of those beauty blogging super hyped products that is actually worth it. It has such a high coverage and blends so easily, I’m not keen on this for under the eyes but its perfect for covering up blemishes. The only thing I hate about concealers in this style is the packaging as you can easily tell that there is loads of product left but you cannot possibly reach it.

NYC Cover Stick in Light: This one sucked its so thick, my mum has it and over summer I used it and it was amazing but I couldn’t seem to get it to work. Maybe I got a dud one but it doesn’t bother me too much as it was so inexpensive its not like I wasted a ton of money but I’ll stick to other concealers from now on.

MUA Pro-Base Fixing Mist: I got this for event work last summer to try and help my make up last all day when rushing around. I have less of a need for it so I’ve been using it for my long ass day at university and work or for special nights out. For £5.00 this was great as it really helped my make up last and I think I may repurchase although as I do not currently have a need I haven’t bothered yet.

Bath and Body:

The Face Shop Sparkling Wine Face Mask: This was another little Canadian treat from Danielle and I just this a relaxing bath treat before my birthday. I love using face masks and I think I’ve been converted to small packeted and paper/cloth ones. This also smelt like fanta grape which is a huge plus in my head.

Sweet Snuggles Vanilla Bath Fizzles: I picked these up cheaply from Superdrug as I’m not allergic to them and I love vanilla. However they were a bit of a dud they added nothing to the bath no smell, change to water or anything which kinda sucks but it was worth trying maybe I’ll find something better elsewhere or I’ll stick too loads of bubble bath.

Ted Baker London Body Souffle: This was another little thing I got in my gift set for chirstmas from my sister and I love the scent its so pretty, in case you were wondering its rose and sandlewood. I’ve just been using it after my shower most mornings and it simply soaks into the skin leaving it silky smooth and smells awesome. I might buy a full size on its own at a later date once I’ve used up all of my body shop body butters up.

Dove Go Fresh Anti-Perspirant in Pomegranate & Lemon Verbena: I love this deodorant and I think I’ve had this in an empties before its simply my go to I love Dove products and deodorants and this by far is my favourite one. To be fair there isn’t much more to say.

Sanex Zero 24 Hour Deodorant: I have no idea if this is TMI or not but when I used to shave my under arms they used to get really irritated and I know you aren’t technically meant to use deodorant after shaving so I use this every few days when I shave under my arms so I’m protected and I’m no longer irritated.

6

Hair

TRESemme Heat Defence Spray: These bottles always seem to take forever to use up even though I use it every single time I put heat on my hair from using my hair dryer to straightening my hair. This stuff works so well and I always make sure I have a back up, I even have a travel sized one for holidays as its just that good and the travel sized ones are adorable.

Have you tried any of these products if so what do you think and what have you be loving at the moment?

Love
