Review: Garnier Skin Active Matcha & Kaolin Mask

Garnier SkinActive Match & Kaolin Mask

I simply cannot resist trying yet another face mask, whenever I see a mask I am curious about that is highly affordable I just pick it up. I’ve loved the Garnier Skin Active Masks and other products I have tried in the past, in fact I always have a Garnier Moisture Bomb Tissue Mask (review here ) on hand so I thought trying another product in the range. So how did I get on with the Garnier Skin Active Matcha & Kaolin Mask?

The Matcha & Kaolin Mask is part of Garnier’s range of new clay mask and promises to: “A new generation of face mask combining Matcha Tea and Kaolin Clay in a creamy-clay texture that purifies for refreshed, mattified and clean skin. Proven Effectiveness: Immediately: Impurities are removed and skin appears mattified. Long-lasting: effectiveness: skin appears purified as if rebalanced.”

Like any clay mask you work it into your skin, leave for 10 minutes and wash off, it had been a while since I’ve used a clay face mask so was apprehensive that I may find it way to heavy on the skin but I was pleasantly surprised. Compared to clay masks I have used in the past this was light but build-able to create a thick layer, the texture in the hands not to dissimilar in texture and consistency to the George Matte Foundation that I reviewed the other day. Which meant it was comfortable on the skin, and I found it comfortable to wear and get on with everything else I was getting up to while testing it out. It also has a lovely subtle fresh scent, close to green tea but nothing overpowering and I’ll definitely call it fresh than anything definitive.

Despite covering with a reasonably thick layer, I found that it tried in about 5 minutes or so but I ensured I kept it on till it was completely dry all over, as I forgot to track the time exactly but I imagine it would have been at least 10 minutes. Initially this mask felt really comfortable but as it dried it got really tight, making it uncomfortable but it definitely gives you the impression it’s working.

Afterwards my skin felt cleaner and clearer, but in the hours and days after the actual condition of my skin was no different. So, I’m not 100% sure its done anything, although in general it feels like and way enjoyable to use which is all you want from a mask. Also, I do not have oily skin I have the odd oily patch but in general my skin is dry so this may not offer the same benefits to me that it might offer to someone else.

I picked up the Garnier Skin Active Matcha & Kaolin Mask in Primark for £1.00, but it is available from a wide range of stores including Superdrug and Boots selling for between £1.00 and £1.50. All in all, these are always worth a shot as everyone’s skin is different and an affordable one time use mask is always a great option in my opinion. Let me know in the comments what your favourite masks are, I cannot wait to try some more out.

Review: Garnier SkinActive Moisture Bomb Tissue Bomb

garnier-skinactive-moisture-bomb-tissue-mask

Hi guys I’m back, sorry for my absence but life got manic and I just felt so tired so I took a break for a little bit of relaxation and recuperation was in order. I found myself not wanting to right so I gave myself grace and took the time off, but I’m back and motivated so here is the post you are actually here for . . .

Spoiler Alert! This mask is great, I already mentioned it in my January Favourites , so it can be somewhat difficult to pretend I don’t love it. Instead of thinking about the fact I’ve enjoyed using the mask I thought it would be a good time to see how it compares to its claims and look at it more objectively to see if it’s worth picking up, after all I have a major obsession with sheet masks in general.

The Boots website describes the mask as: “Super-hydrating revitalising mask for dehydrated skin. Intensely rehydrates skin, reduces the look of fine lines, and revives radiance. Enriched with pomegranate extract, hyaluronic acid, and plant serum.”

I have to say this is the easiest mask I have ever put on my face, with the plastic sheet attachment the sheet does not stick itself together and its quick to lay on your face. Once you peel away the plastic layer you are left with the simple sheet mask and this easily fits to all of the contours of your face, the gaps are a good size and the mask sits well on the face not expanding too fair so it goes into your hair line etc.

The serum feels deeply hydrating and its comfortable on the skin, and although you are aware that the mask is there when in use its not irritating or annoying. On the several occasions, I have used it I was amazed at how well it stayed put, I can write blog posts, read a book and even do some chores it stays perfectly put. I think this is down to it having that right level of serum, not too much that it slides all over the place and not too little that it offers no benefit to the skin.

So believe the hype this mask is so worth trying out and seeing if it can help your skin too. Compared to other hyped products it’s so easy to find in Boots, Superdrug and even supermarkets like Tesco and Asda stock it, often on offer as well at £0.99 so one of the most affordable sheet masks out there that really packs a punch.

January 2017 Collective Haul

In case you missed my Beauty Resolutions at the start of the month, I am trying to only buy what I need so I thought I would start again with my monthly collective hauls. It’s just a nice way to share anything I’ve brought and I already know I will be buying less this year, as I am trying to do one in one out with beauty products but I’m also only buying clothes I need so I actually like and wear what I own. So in the month of huge sales how much resistance have I managed to shop

Leia Factory Shop: If you are busty you know sometimes finding a good bra can be expensive and I feel like Leia is one of the best kept secrets the website often has 50% off sales but I live fairly closed to the factory outlet a tiny shop filled with racks of bras. A couple of times of years they have major sales where the bras are so cheap and I love the Freya Decos, I showed restraint after buying a few back in October so I left with two Bra and two pants which match (the purple matches a previous bra.)

january-collective-haul-leia

Deco Vibe (£36 £9, 75% off), Deco Delight (£34 £9, 74% off), Deco Vibe Shorts (£13 £3 each 77% off)

If you are curious about the shop and what they offer you can check out Leia here, but as you can see the sales are definitely worth it.

primark-nude-zip-tote

Primark: I am currently on the lookout for a nice, expensive(ish) bag but in the mean time I need a smart bag for work as my current bag is looking a little bit worse for wear. Although I’d tend to go for a black bag I fell in love with this Nude Zip Tote Bag (£9.00), I couldn’t resist and its relatively inexpensive. Also its huge I’m going to transfer all my stuff across shortly.

boots-janauary-collective-haul

Boots: January was a month to stock up on some basics once again, I’ve fallen in love with the Boots Essentials Cucumber Cleansing Wipes (£1.00 each) and with a points bonus it made sense to stock up now. Continuing with basics in the month of December I was constantly foing my nails for various occasions and I’m almost out of nail polish remover so I thought I would give the Boots 2-In-1 Nail Polish Remover (£1.29), I’m not loyal with nail polish removers and tend to buy what’s there.

january-collective-haul-boots

My skin is so dry at the moment so I’m going made with face masks in order to give my skin some much needed TLC, so while it was on offer I picked up a couple of the Garnier SkinActive Moisture Bomb Tissue Mask (£0.99 each). I’ve got one already but I cannot wait to put them to the test.

The final thing I picked up was the Revlon All In One Ultimate Mascara (£9.99), I cannot wait to give it a go as I love as I desperately need a new mascara. Don’t worry I will post a review shortly.

What have you picked up in January either in the sales or in general. I’ve still got a few items on my list so there will still be more hauls don’t worry.

Current Makeup Routine: Autumn Edition

20161026_153423

autumn-makeup

As the seasons change, we all like to mix up our makeup, so I thought I would share how I’ve mixed it up for the current season and what I am currently loving.

autumn-makeup-garnier-skinactive-micellar-water-and-moisturiser

Before I do any makeup I always cleanse my face again, as I’ve usually done a fully skincare routine by this point I just simply use a little bit of the Garnier SkinActive Oil-Infused Micellar Water on a cotton pad. To create a good base for my makeup I always moisturise and my current favourite is the Garnier Skin Active Moisture Bomb Super Hydrating Antioxidant Moisturiser, especially as the weather is getting cooler and the dry air of heating and temperature changes moisturiser is a must.

autumn-makeup-loreal-paris-sleek-collection-mua

I’d like to say I am using a primer but half the time I never remember it, so I am usually straight onto my foundation which I feel like it is included in every single one of the L’oreal True Match Foundation in Rosy Ivory. This is by far my favourite foundation, it’s one of the best matches I have ever found and it’s a nice medium but buildable coverage. Any blemishes I simply cover up with the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer, it’s just one of those concealers that is good for anything. Then to add a little touch of definition and colour with the Sleek Face Form Pallet in Light bronzer and a touch of the MUA Blush in Cupcake, not adding anything dramatic just a touch of something.

Next up the brows, I don’t do anything fancy, I lightly build up and fill in the gaps with the Natural Collection Eyebrow Pencil in Medium Brow. I cannot believe how good this is, it’s so affordable the product is great and it even has a spoolie the colours are limited but if it is in your shade, definitely check it out. Then if I’m feeling it I finish up my brows with a touch of Benefit Gimmie Brow, I am still debating of forking out for the full price item.

I’m also enjoying keeping my eyes simple, just some liquid eyeliner something to simply define but with no blending or effort. At present I am loving the L’Oreal Paris So Couture Super Liner. Then finish it off with lashings of mascara which I grab which ever one I feel like wearing I am fairly non-committal with mascaras at the moment.

autumn-makeup-nxy-soft-matte-lip-cream-in-20-copenhagen

Finally it is all about the lips, a mad thing for me to say really considering I have such a love hate relationship  with lipstick but I am trying to push the boundaries. So to complete the look for this post, I’ve finished off with the NXY Soft Matte Lip Cream in Copenhagen (see the review here). I don’t always commit to it but it does make me feel autumnal and feel like I am embracing this time of year.

What are your favourite makeup items this time of year, let me know in the comments below I’d love to know.

Review: Garnier SkinActive Oil-Infused Micellar Cleansing Water

garnier-skin-active-micellar-oil-infused-cleansing-water

What lazy girl doesn’t love a good Micellar Water, and I just couldn’t resist when I saw this recent launch from Garnier. I loved their original formula, and just couldn’t wait to see how this shaped up as I often found this mixed product a little hit and miss in the past.

According to the Garnier website this product promises to:

Micellar Oil-Infused Cleansing Water is an easy way to remove even waterproof & long-wear makeup. For the 1st time, Garnier Micellar technology is formulated with nourishing oils. The micelles (cleansing agents) capture impurities like a magnet & lift away dirt from the skin, whilst the oils instantly dissolve all types of make-up.  Cleanse and nourish the feel of skin, in one step without rinsing.”

Some big promises so how does it shape up? I must say I found it so much easier to shake up and mix than some other products of this type, for example the Nivea Daily Essentials Double Effect Eye Makeup Remover is super hard to mix up and separates so quickly. The Garnier Oil-Infused Cleansing Water shakes up and mixes up super easily, and stays mixed for a reasonable amount of time. Once on the cotton pad it doesn’t look or feel too oily and is refreshing on the skin. It feels closer to a micellar water than an oil based cleanser, which is a feel I prefer.

garnier-micellar-oil-infused-cleansing-water

The fact this micellar water is oil based means it is so much better than the original Garnier Micellar water, opposed to a bit of scrubbing or wiping the removal of waterproof makeup almost seems effortless with this oil based formula. For standard makeup like foundation and eyeshadow, it works like most other micellar waters just quick and easy removal but it’s not like you can complain.

So whats my final verdict? I think the Garnier Skin Active Oil-Infused Micellar Cleansing Water is worth checking out especially if you wear heavy eye makeup or waterproof makeup, as it’s that level up from the original micellar water. In general though I like them equally, and I think I will continue to interchange but this will be great for removing party makeup as we get towards Christmas and the associated festivities.

Let me know if you’ve tried the Garnier Skin Active Oil-Infused Micellar Cleansing Water in the comments below, what do you think about it? Also let me know your favourite micellar water in the comments I love trying out all the micellar waters.

September Favourites

Well hasn’t September been a crazy ol month even with just the weather alone, heatwave, storms and fog. It also means we’re most the way into 2016 it’s absolutely insane how quick this year.

With the insane weather this month, air con, heaters the lot my skin has really started to dry out. So I needed a heavy duty moisturiser and the Garnier SkinActive Moisture Bomb, its rich and thick without been heavy it’s really helped my skin out and I use it every morning and evening. I’m so glad I picked it up on a whim, my skin is eternally grateful.
Much like my skin my hairs seemed a little dried out this month and the Garnier Ultimate Blends The Sleek Restorer Balm has saved me. When I initially reviewed it I was a little mixed but now I’m loving in, use it after swimming and don’t was it out until I get home so anything up to an hour then my hair is silky and smooth. It also makes my hair easier to manage the week following which I cannot get enough of it.

lipstick-favourites
I’ve been trying to embrace lipstick this month, and you can see the start of my journey in my Lipstick Diaries here. Although I’ve not started bold wearing everyday and for every occasion is the first big step and my go to nude this month is Soap & Glory’s Sexy Mother Pucker Lipstick in Naked Talent. It’s a rich creamy lipstick and its a warm your lips but better shade, its really made me comfortable with wearing lipstick daily so it’s been a big part of building confidence. If I haven’t been wearing this I’ve tried to be a little more daring but still ultra-safe with The Body Shop Colour Crush Shine Lipstick in 13 Breathless Berry, a beautiful pinky red shade which is light, comfortable to wear and gets me used to wearing colour without been heavy and requiring constant touch ups or mirror checks.

Finally I thought I would end with a few non-beauty favourites starting off with my funky looking charge cable, Tiger 1.2m Micro USB Charging Cable. I am always misplacing my charge cable, and this once is bright and noticeable so I know it’s mine and it does kinda cheer you up it just allows you to keep track and it was only £3.00. I’ve also been reading Into The Wild, I watched the film a few years ago and it’s such an interesting story tracking the journey of Chris. I highly recommend reading the book or checking out the film (available on Netflix) it’s thought provoking and fascinating.

So what have you been loving in September, let me know in the comments below.

Collective September Haul ft Lush, Primark & Boots

So on Saturday I popped into town just for a potter around as see whats in shows now that the seasons have changed. I didn’t pick up anything major but I thought I would share the bits and pieces that I did pick up.

lush-haul-ft-milky-bath-butterball

So lets start with my every so often shop of Lush, where I am so restricted due to allergies and once again met with staff who cannot advise me on what products I can use. So I went for my old favourite and go to Butterball Bath Ballistic (£2.75), sure it’s not exciting but my skin feels great afterwards. In addition to the butterball I also picked up the Milky Bath Bubble Bar (£3.75), it looks super cute and once again is meant to be great for the skin.

boots-haul-garnier-skin-active

Then I decided to Boots in order to spend some of my advatange card points and in trying to not by more makeup I went to skincare and there was a deal on for garnier micellar waters and moisturisers which had money off as well as getting a water infuser bottle. The water infusion bottles I have always wondered about but were never sure they were worth it. Anyway I picked up the Garnier Skin Active Micellar Oil-Infused Cleansing Water (£5.99 £3.99), which I think will be interesting to try and I will keep you posted on how I get on possibly a review. Also as its turning into Autumn/Winter my face gets so dry so it felt right to switch out what I am usually using for the Garnier Skin Active Moisture Bomb Super-Hydrating Antioxident Moisturiser (£7.99 £5.33), I will keep you posted on how I found it.

primark-haul-ft-ps-love

The final stop on Saturday was Primark, and I felt fairly uninspired with the clothes at least at the moment but maybe as they weather fully gets into Autumn I may do. As it gets cooler I love chilling in the evening with a hot chocolate, some TV and light a candle so I picked up two, No. 15 Plum and Vanilla Candle (£1.00) and Pink Grapefruit Candle (£1.00). I am one of those people who like to change scents all the time, so as well as being cute these little ones are great if you like to change things up all the time. I was running out so I have to pick up the P.S Love This Round Cosmetic Pads (£0.50 each), if you haven’t got them you should, I picked up two packs. Finally I’m getting ready for Christmas early, as these P.S Christmas Snowflake Nails (£1.50) are so cute and they are slightly more winter than Christmas I cannot wait to wear them.

Have you checked out the high street for the latest season’s clothes, what trends are you loving at the moment? Also have you picked up anything good recently?

Travel Skincare Routine

travel skincare

Keeping your skincare routine up while away is difficult, you don’t want to carry all off your products and the practicality is not always there. So how to I keep up a suitable skincare routine while away? Here are my key products for when I’m not at home to keep my skin happy and clear.

travel skincare ft ps love, garnier

Let’s start with makeup removal and basic cleansing, as not matter what there is no option not to remove makeup at the end of the day. We all love a micellar water, that holy grail product that we have no idea what we did before it so of course the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water (Handbag Size). This size is perfect for travel and it’s a great product for taking makeup off and general cleansing purposes. However, for those lazy days’ face wipes are a must and I’m currently enjoying the PS Love Your Skin Gentle Facial Cleansing Wipes, after all you are on holiday when else can you get away with facial wipes.

A good moisturiser as well as spf are important to any skincare routine, and in case you’ve missed my blog recently you’ll know I’ve been loving the Olay Complete Radiance Illuminator (Decanted). Its so well under makeup and provides a summer glow while providing moisture as SPF so perfect to take away with me and a little goes a long way.

travel skincare ft trilogy, boots essential

As part of my skincare routine lip care is key, my current favourite is the Boots Essentials Spearmint Lip Salve nothing too heavy with a refreshing scent and gently cares for my lips. Although I love my lip butters I sometimes find them fairly heavy and you want something you don’t have to worry about or you can’t put lip products over the top quickly.

Finally two bits I want to get some use out of when I’m away that I got in my Feel Unique Pick n Mix order, first and foremost the Trilogy Everything Balm as who doesn’t want a balm that can do everything perfect staple for a trip away. I’m also trying out the Caricara Diamond of Beauty Eye Day & Night Programme, I feel like it’s a nice opportunity to try a luxury sample while away.

What do you like to take away with you? How do you keep your skincare routine in check while travelling let me know in the comments.

Garnier Ultimate Blends The Sleek Restorer Balm

Garnier Ultimate Blends The Sleek Restorer Balm

With all the summer fun or sun, sea and waves we tend to forget to take the time to look after our hair, and as summer arrived I decide to try out a new hair mask in order to keep my hair silky smooth.

The Garnier Ultimate Blends The Sleek Restorer Balm promises to:

“Tame dry, frizzy hair with our intensely soothing balm, blended with rich coconut oil and cocoa butter. Our rich nourishing formula, with its velvety balm texture leaves frizzy hair feeling nourished, looking super smooth and frizz free even in damp weather.”

It is really quite simple as all you need to do is put it on your hair for between 1 to 5 minutes, apparently depending on how much moisture your hair needs. Personally I like to leave a mask on at least 5 minutes and use them once a fortnight to once a month. So how well does it work?

Personally I find it just okay, my hair initially didn’t feel dramatically different and it took a lot of rinsing to ensure that all of the product is removed and nothing is left. My hair felt smoother by looked hardly any different and I was highly disappointed by this fact, I by no means expect miricles but I do respect my hair to come out looking better than before using.

I feel like with this product I am simply setting my expectations of treating by dehydrated hair and putting back in moisture, my hair is not badly damaged and just lacks moisture. This may simply not be the product for me either due to hair type or this is not the masking conditioning balm I want it to be. The directions say 1 to 5 minutes and this makes me think that although marketed as a mask this may simply be a great option in order to replace your current conditioner if you have dry and damaged hair.

So unfortunately I would recommend you save your pennies and try an alternative hair mask/balm, I have loved the tresemme ones in the past and I may return to this once this product has been used up. What hair masks do you recommend let me know in the comments below.

No 7 Beautiful Skin

No 7 Beautiful Skin Cleansing Water

By now the majority of us have tried cleansing/micellar waters especially from brands such as Simple, Garnier and L’Oreal Paris, and here’s one I haven’t tried before nor have heard much about the No 7 Beautiful Skin Cleansing Water. So I thought I would give it a go.

I always feel as though the Boots No 7 brand is often overlooked, I feel as though for most people view it as for older people but it is a really great brand. With high quality makeup and skincare, although it’s not the cheapest brand especially as the No 7 Cleansing water is £9.50 for 200ml so much expensive than its drug store counter parts yet comparable to a lot of other brands. One tip I will give is that Boots regularly give out vouchers for No 7 products with purchases, £3 off makeup and £5 off Skincare. So most of the time you will be able to get it for £4.50, or get it with many other offers available at Boots.

The product comes in a tall plastic bottle with a pump top, there isn’t a cap but the pump top can be twisted to lock it so you don’t accidently spill it everywhere. The pump is a nice touch, preventing the use of too much product and it is obviously a pricier packaging option, nice but not necessary. Unlike the other Cleansing Waters I’ve tried this one has a least a semi subtle scent

So first up and most importantly how does this deal with the removal of makeup? First and foremost due to the pump it takes that bit longer soak the cotton wool pads, or dampen them enough but that’s not really a big deal as most the time it prevents wasting the product. It swipes of product really easy and takes all of the makeup, so that nothing is left on the skin. For removing eye makeup I often find it best to hold the cotton pad on the eye for that bit longer, just hold it on for 10 seconds and it tends to remove, and at least loosen the worst of the product off as they days when I layer up mascara and go big it takes a bit more to get them off. All in all it works well as a makeup remover.

Obviously we don’t just use these things for makeup removal, sometimes it provides a good cleanse. I especially like using it as a pre-makeup cleanse when it’s been a decent amount of time from my morning skincare routine and I want to make sure my face is fully cleansed and clean. It’s a simple case of splash a cotton wool pad with some of the No 7 Cleansing Water and swipe it all over your skin, which is just super refreshing. I would liken it to the Ganier and other micellar water in how it leaves the skin, just how you want it clean and clear. It does exactly what you want it too, I especially love it before bed as it smells amazing. Use it before bed and you wake up in the morning with your skin feeling fresh and smelling amazing.

Overall I think that it is a great product, it does what it’s says it does and smells amazing and I would recommend giving it a go if you are curious. Is it better than others? No not necessarily as it works just as well as the others, it’s not hard as they are all great products and have transformed skincare routines no end. I understand here that price is an issue, although comparable some other brands Ganier, Simple and L’Oréal all offer great products for under £5.00 and I feel as though it depends what you wish to spend your money on.

Let me know what your favourite Cleansing Waters let me know in the comments below, is there any more I should try?
