Empties #9

empties #9

After having such a huge empties last time where I simply spent most of the time running up to creating the post, thinking this is almost done I’ll wait. Then it just seems to add up as I don’t do it monthly I just wait until I consider I have enough. So here we go again, I’m always going to be obsessed with empties posts as I feel as though people can give the best quality reviews once they’ve finished a product and repurchasability (I’m making up words again) of a product is a definite strong recommendation.

Benefit Roller Lash (sample size): I got this back with Elle in I think February, and I saved it for travelling and finally finished it. I have to say it takes a while to get the technique and if I put the effort to use it right my lashes look absolutely amazing otherwise they just look normal. I have manage to find mascaras that work very similar such as the Primark Curl and Lift Mascara, the Benefit is superior but I’m on a budget and I cannot justify the cost of the mascara. Would I repurchase: maybe, if it was on a good offer.

empties ft superdrug Morrison’s Pure Cotton Wool Pads: I’m not sure what to say, these are decent cotton wool pads especially for a low price point. They don’t break up when taking off nail varnish, the only thing is they aren’t as soft as I would have liked feeling fairly abrasive on the skin when using a cleanser or toner. Would I repurchase: I don’t see why not.

Boots Cotton Wool Double Faced Round Pads: These are by far my favourite cotton pads I have ever used, with one padded side which is gentle and good for cleansers etc. While the other side have an exfoliating texture, great for a deeper clean with a toner of micellar water to take off makeup Would I repurchase: yes.

Tesco Everyday Value Facial Wipes: I’ve mentioned these in empties before, my favourite face wipes as they are the best at removing makeup or correcting mistakes yet they are so cheap. I don’t use them for makeup removal that often but recommend having them in your stash just in case. Would I repurchase: Always.

empties ft tesco & morrisons

TRESemme Heat Defence Spray (Travel Size): I did consider refilling this but the spay mechanism is so-so, so I’m more likely to find a new spray bottle and the pour some out from my regular sized bottle. The heat defence spray itself though is amazing and I will never go without it, thus the travel size and it’s great to have a decent sized thing to travel with as it lasts a good while. Would I repurchase: yes, for full size and travel size.

Superdrug Cocoa Brownie for Brunettes Dry Shampoo: Sometimes the white marks with dry shampoo can be really annoying, so I thought I’d buy a dry shampoo aimed at brunettes as I didn’t find colab did anything for me when I tried it. I did actually like this, it didn’t work as well as batiste but it did soak up the grease/oils and refreshed my hair. It is especially useful on days where you need to do your hair 5 minutes before leaving the house as you don’t have to work it in properly. Would I repurchase: possibly.

Elizabeth Arden Pretty (Travel Size): I’m slowly using these up one empties at a time, although at present I am planning to keep the bottles as I think they are so cute and I think I will keep them to display once I get a proper vanity. I never know how to describe the smell of this one it’s just floral and girly, although the official description calls it a ‘Fresh Floral Fragrance’. Would I repurchase: Possibly, a lovely scent but there are definitely ones I prefer.

empties tf primark

Halo Hand Wipes: I brought these for Slam Dunk way back in may for keeping hands clean and hygiene reasons. I then forgot about them for a bit preferring to have anti-bac hand gel in my bag, when I found them I used the remaining ones to clean my hands when apply makeup and tidying everything. They do the job, but tbh for makeup removal and tidying just use a normal facial wipe. Would I repurchase: great for festivals but otherwise I wouldn’t bother.

Vaseline Derma Beauty Deodorant: I’ve never tried a Vaseline deodorant before but it was on offer and I felt as though I didn’t have anything to lose by trying it. It smells nice and works well, I don’t really feel as though there is much to say about a deodorant past the point of it works well and smells nice. Would I repurchase: probably, I’m not too fussy with deodorant.

Cuticura Primark Exclusive Sparking Fruits Hand Gel: I love non sterile smelling hand gels, I don’t know why but I just prefer it, when I saw this I just couldn’t resist and I’ve liked the previous cuticura hand gels that I have tried before. It smells like a delicious fruit cocktail. Would I repurchase: yes.

Superdrug Nail Polish Remover Acetone Free: I’m super unfussy with nail varnish if it does the job I like it, slight downside of the acetone free one is that it can take that bit longer to remove nail varnish. All in all not bad, not great but not bad. Would I repurchase: I wouldn’t rule it out.

There you go another empties, I’m getting so much more determined to use things up by doing empties posts rather than having several items on the go at once. Although I will try to use stuff up no matter how much I like something as I try to make it work, or pass it on.

Whats in My Bag?: Festival Edition / Festival Essentials

festival essentials

So this weekend I went to Slam Dunk South Festival to have an amazing day seeing bands and celebrate the end of the year/graduating. So I thought I would do a little bit of what is in my festival bag and festival essentials, although this is slightly different as it is a one day festival the essentials are different. I’m also writing this after because I usually carry crap I don’t need so I’ll show you exactly what I took taking into account what I used and what I didn’t.

First and foremost lets consider the essentials that are needed. The most important thing is Sunblock, I picked up Lacura Suncare Extra Sensitive Sun Spray SPF 50+ form aldi which is a 50+ sunblock, I know ideally you should reapply throughout the day but I knew I would not end up doing so and I don’t have the space in my tiny bag. The 50+ should last more of the day, remember be safe and choose a high factor sunblock. Also check it has UVA, UVB and that it is water resistant if you want more information about checking the best sunblock check out some advice here. However it was clouded over and drizzled a lot of the day, regardless any exposed areas such as my arms and neck just in case.

Another essential is light layers to help you stayed covered and protected and the sun, but keep you cool or a bonus layer if its chilly. My personal favorites for this is either a checked shirt or a kimono dependent on what outfit I’m wearing to which works best. It is basically something that keeps you covered, I opted for a checked shirt as it added warmth and with a festival like slam dunk near enough everyone is wearing a checked shirt. Dress accordingly.

Also make sure you are wearing sensible shoes, I opt for things like converse but there were girls the festival wearing flip flops and heels. You need something that will be comfy all day and in crowded areas that you wont loose or roll your foot and injure or even sprain something. Stick with pumps, trainers basically something that is sturdy and comfortable really just think about it. Fashion is not what a festival is all about, yes look nice but think about practicality.

The bag I used you can see in my ‘What’s in My Bag: Compact Edition‘ and it fitted in everything with a little bit of room left over.

whats in my bag

So now onto what I took with me in my little bag, I always like to keep it practical and compact in an attempt not to over pack. The most important items are your tickets and a site map/schedule, you won’t get in without your ticket for a start and the schedule/map is important so you know where to go at what time. As its held at my university I know all of the short cuts and its fairly simple to get around after spending three years there.

Don’t forget to take purse essentials but not your whole purse just in case you loose it. Take enough cash, food stalls, merch and bars mainly only accept cash and the cash machines either have huge queues or run out of money half way through the day so take enough so you aren’t disappointed. Decide how much money to take based on food, drink and travel for taxis ect and maybe take more in case. If you run out of money don’t forget you can get free tap water behind any bar so you can stay hydrated. The purse essentials to me are debit card, ID and cash.

My next few items concern hygiene in several different ways. First up is the fair obvious anti-bacterial hand gel, I am currently using the Fun Edition Cussons Carex Complete in Strawberry Laces, this one smells completely amazing. It’s great for a large number reasons either to freshen up, clean your hands before or after you eat or for after you’ve been to the loo (especially port-a-loos). Along the same lines I have the Halo Hand Wipes, I found these were best for after eating the greasy festival food but we also used them for when my boyfriend cut his leg to clean himself up. I suppose you can take either or but they don’t take up that much room and its good to make sure you keep clean. The final thing in this area is Superdrug Soft Tissues a highly practical thing not only for hayfever suffering, cleaning up spills they are useful for when the loo has run out of paper it is always useful to have tissues.

Other major essentials include keys, camera and phone. A camera is not necessarily essential but the picture quality is better but it can depend on your phone a bit. Then it is just a few random other bits and pieces such as chewing gum for fresh breath, pain killers in case you have a headache ect and plasters (I have cute hello kitty ones) which I mainly use in case your shows rub ect. Oh and the other probably non essential but I always carry around is a clear lip balm in which mine is Rimmel Keep Calm and Shop Lip Balm which it’s bright colours make it easier to find.

The only thing that I had in my bag that I didn’t use was my Yves Rocher Pink Grapefruit Vitamin Face Mist, this was mainly due to the weather been fairy meh this wasn’t needed but if it was hot or really sweaty in a room it would of been ideal to cool us down. However only using one item is pretty dam good in my opinion.

So what are your festival essentials, let me know in the comments below.

Day 91: August Favourites

DSCF4161

So August really did fly by and I am making a start of setting up doing monthly favourites. I was gong to start monthly favourites last month but as I was barely home and wasn’t using much beauty or anything.

MUA’s Heaven and Earth Eyeshadow Palette

DSCF4163

This was one of the two palettes I took to Cornwall with me but it is the only one I used when I was always and since it is such a lovely subtle and diverse palette. From a simple was of colour to smoky eyes. I live for neutral eyes and I am so glad to have this as part of my make up collection.

Halo Eye Make Up Remover Pads

DSCF4164

I brought these for weekends away and got loads of use out of them. This month I have been really loving them for doing make up or make up touch ups on the go to wipe brushes or my hands ect. They effortlessly remove eye make up and are soft and gentle on the rest of your face, I just love them and I think I might keep buying them to keep in my bag.

Foot Pack Intensive Rejuvenation

DSCF4162

I love these moisturising booties. After coming back from France my feet were so dry and cracked after a few weeks of wearing sandals and flip flops. These were my life saves and my feet are slowly getting back to normal and lovely again. Well worth picking up and they are so cheap.

Rimmel London Apocalips in Nova

DSCF4165

I finally embraced the bold lips and wore this most of this month, its such a beautiful summery shade and I cannot get enough of it. Another bonus is that it stays put, for a bit more about this lip gloss with swatches and my verdict check out my review here.

So this is a brief look at why I have been loving this month, what have you been loving recently?

Day 41: Travel Beauty (Long Weekend)

P1030199

So once again I’m away for the weekend, and because I’m not taking much make up to France next week and we’ll be taking a mismash of hotel toiletries so this will be the last post for a few weeks where I am going to do travel make up and beauty. So every thing make up and toiletry stuff fits into these 3 small bags, I have amazing packing skills.

P1030202

First up the small Ellen Tracy which has a matching larger bag, which I will use for my longer travels which you will see later on. It was initially just meant to have my toothbrush and toothpaste but now holds my primer in there too. The tooth brush is just a cheap bog standard £1.00 one as you don’t need anything special for travel really, then I have a travel sized tube of Colgate Sensitive Prorelief a perfect sized small tube that I couldn’t live without. My primer I have talked about loads before I am just so in love with it, its Nivea Daily Essentials Express Hydration Primer and of course where ever I go it goes.

P1030200

Next up my bag of toiletries all of which are pretty explanatory but include:

  • A highly important products Aussie Miracle Moist Shampoo & Conditioner travel sized, I could probably last a weekend without washing my hair but we are going swimming so these are a must.
  • Mark Hill De-Frizz Shine Protect and Control Spray, I have really fallen in love with this product I brought in a pound shop and didn’t think much of it but it’s an amazing hair spray long lasting but doesn’t leave your hair crisp and easily brushes out. Also it smells amazing and is an ideal travel product especially with the plastic packaging that you don’t need to worry about.
  • Another essential is my travel sized Nivea Invisible Antiperspirant I really do not like the smell of this but its such a convenient size for a weekend away helping keeping everything nice and compact.
  • I then have two body washes first of all I have Ted Baker London Bodywear Body Wash there is only about one wash left in this so I had to bring a back up. The other is a simple cheap fill your own travel bottle filled with Sanex Sensitive from one of the big bottles and it is my favourite shower gel of all time.
  • Finally in this bag is Halo Make Up Remover Pads, I wanted to keep packing light and these will take my make up just fine for the next few days although I’m not sure if my skin will be happy with it.

P1030203

And then here is my compact make up bag, I know its not that compact but I need day time looks and we’re going out to dinner for our anniversary so I’m taking a versatile palette and lip colours to change for day to night.

  • First up as for brushes I am taking: a kabuki brush; eyeshadow brush (Ruby & Millie); Slanted brush (body shop); blush brush (cosmopoliton) & eyeshadow brush.
  • Face: NYC all day long foundation in shade 737 Classic Ivory; MUA Pressed Powder in shade 1; Sleek Face Form palette in light; MUA Single Blusher in Lolly; Collection Illuminating Touch Concealer in Naked.
  • Eyes: MUA Heaven & Earth eyeshadow palette; MUA Colour Blast Eyeshadow Tint in Stay; Collection Intense Colour Kohl Pencil in shade 01 Black Magic and Maxfactor False Lash Effect in Black Brown.
  • Lips: MUA Lipstick in shade 14 Bare; MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer in Tranquility; Rimmel London Apocalips in shade 102 Nova.

Some of these are old basics and some are new stuff that are new and I can’t wait to play with or am really loving like my heaven and earth palette and false lash effect mascara.

P1030201

Finally I just have 3 loose bits that will just go in my Handbag. First up is my travel sized Elizabeth Adren Pretty Perfume its such a perfect summery scent I’m loving it at the moment. Then I have an essential for everyone travelling antibacterial hand gel, this Cuticura Hand Gel in Passion Flower and Mango smells amazing so hand gel doesn’t have to smell sterile. And finally my favourite, yet sadly discontinued, Body Shop scent in a lovely hand lotion is my Body Shop Love Ect Body Lotion in travel sized so is perfect to take anywhere.

What are your essentials when going away for a weekend? Do you like minitures like me or do you take the big ones?

Day 6: What’s in my bag!

So I watch these all the time on youtube and find them so interesting probably because I’m just so nosey so I thought I would see if this worked as blog. So read on if you’re nosey like me although I’m unsure how interesting it will be.

So I guess the best place to start is the bag, I’ve recently changed my bag from a beautiful tan canvas eygptian symbol bag from Drop Dead that I got for my 18th birthday, changing to a classic black one which is more suitable for interviews ect. as after all I’m growing up. I’d spend hours online gazing at beautiful bags, looking in t k maxx for something perfect and never finding in. In the end I settled don’t get me wrong I love my bag but I mainly choose it for the brand and price.

Image

Image

So this is it a nice black Fiorelli bag that I brought used off ebay for £6.50, a smoke free home and nothing more than a few scuffs on the bottom that I new about when I brought it but no one sees. It has two main compartments and then two smaller compartments with a zip for each one so everything inside is safe and secure. It is so roomy and fits nice on my arm or over my shoulder all in all not a bad bag.

Image

So what is in my bag:

  • Beauty Basics and Back Ups:
      • Hair Grips and Bobby Pins: something no girl can ever be with out to fix a hair style or just bung it up if it gets wet and you know all is lost.
      • Eye Make Up Wipes: I mentioned these in one of my previous posts they are the small make up remover wipes and are small and absolutely great, although I don’t especially know what they are doing in my bag.
      • Avon Mini Lipsticks: I have two small lipsticks in my bag as I went out Friday night to see a local band and I wore one of them, so as any girl knows its good to keep that lipstick in your bag for touch ups especially with bright colours.
      • Ted Baker Body Spray: I’ve had this for years but didn’t actually use it until recently its a lovely scent and such a handy size, I think it was probably from a gift set either way great to have in my bag.
      • Compact Mirror: Must have for make up touch ups and the silver glittery heart is something I’ve had for years one side even has one of those x2 mirrors so is great for touching up eye liner on the go.
      • Hand Sanitiser and Hand Lotion: both of these I mentioned on my previous blog so check it out here if you want to know a little more about them and where to get them. They are such a hand bag staple that most people do or should have in their bag.
  • Purse: My purse is also a Fiorelli, I brought this in t k maxx some 3/4 years ago and it is now pretty much on its last legs but it case two sections for notes, zipped coin section and a few card slots. I have an insane amount of cards which probably added to the decline in the condition of my purse in the last year of so I never turn down a good loyalty card.
  • Diary and Pens: the pens are random but are important for jotting down notes, appointments or just in case for those weird infrequent moments when you actually genuinely need a pen. I’ve found having  physical diary is so much easier than jotting everything down on my phone, especially during term time balancing work, lectures, tutorials and bills so I know exactly what is coming when. I feel so old having one but it has made my life so much easier. I brought mine from staples I think, any way I loved the colour and its an academic 18 month one so goes from sometime last summer up until December this year fitting in perfectly with the transition from university to ‘real life’.
  • Two Sets of Headphones. Because one set is never enough.
  • Phone Charger.
  • Chewing Gum.
  • Online backing thingy.
  • Allergy tablets.
  • Lighter.
  • Random Loose £5.00 note.
  • My Beautiful Necklace: This is my favourite piece of jewellery, it is only in their as I took it off the other day and put it in my bag for safety, it was so safe I forgot it was there and panicked for ages that I’d lost it. My boyfriend brought it for me for our 1 year anniversary in a beautiful set and it is perfect, I couldn’t of picked something more perfect myself. I get loads of compliments for it, he has good taste.

So there it is my bag, unlike most of these you see I don’t take a full make up thing all the time it moves in and out and as it’s fairly new apart from the odd receipt there really isn’t cuttered up next give it another month and it will be more interesting possibly.

Day 3: My Life in Minature

So I did a small bit of shopping today and I realised I’ve developed a small obsession with miniature version of products but this probably not a bad thing with me travelling quite a bit this summer. Here are just a few of my favourites.

Image

Image

(From L to R: Tresemme 24 Hour Body Conditioner, Tresemme 24 Hour Body Shampoo, Tresemme Heat Defence Styling Spray, Mark Hill De-Frizz)

Tresemme 24 Hour Body Shampoo & Conditioner (100ml): I always use tresemme on my hair they work wonders and the ordinary large bottles are actually great value for money when you consider how long they last and the size of the bottle, once you’ve gotten over the initial cost. I usually use salon silk however, I can only find 24 hour body in travel form so if anyone knows if the other ones are available in this size let me know. I’m so glad I can recreate my home hair routine when travelling and these are ideal, the best this is due to these been screw caps once these run out I can refill them with my own current tresemme product. Price: Each £1.50* at Superdrug, also available at boots.

Tresemme Heat Defence Spray (60ml)This was the first heat defence spray I tried and no matter what else I try I always end up coming back to this one. It works so well keeping my hair in good condition throughout the constant abuse I give my hair. I saw it in miniature today and thought it would be ideal to take away with me the big bottles take up much needed room and this will come in handy as a little can go a long way, so will easily last a fortnight on holiday. Much like the other tresemme miniatures is also has a screw cap so if you wanted to you could refill from the big bottle once its all used up or to top it up if going away and unsure a part bottle will last. Price: £1.50* at Superdrug.

Mark Hill De-Frizz Shine and Protect Spray (75ml): This is a finishing spray to place over a finished style so essentially a light hold hair spray. I can’t find it online anywhere and am unsure the product exsists any more, I brought this back in April in poundland and couldn’t resist picking it up due to it been Mark Hill. Perfect way to finish a style and will keep your hair smelling gorgeous all day.  beautiful Price: £1 at Poundland.

Image

Image

(From L to R: Avon Golden Berry Ultra, Avon Crimson Twilight Ultra, Avon Gilded Velvet Ultra)

Avon Lip Samples: All the full size versions are available online or from local Avon reps meanwhile samples like these are most common from your local Avon rep either through asking to try or with another Avon purchase, these however I brought on ebay. I wanted to try some Avon products but without having to pay full price and most Avon reps don’t give samples without previous purchase(s) but for 4 small lipsticks (I have 2 of the gilded velvet) I only paid £1.89 including postage which isn’t bad. I have yet to fully try them and am currently only experimenting with lip colour as I’m definitely more of a nude lip kind of girl but the small size is ideal for a night out to put in your purse/clutch bag. So if you fancy seeing what there is online or being cheeky and asking for samples it isn’t a bad idea, especially if your already buying a full size from a rep see if they can give you a miniature too if you don’t ask you’ll never know.

Image

(From L to R: Cuticura Anit-bacterial Hand Gel in Passion Flower & Mango, Body Shop Body Lotion in Love ect. . .)

Both of these are hand bag staples really and can be used in all such emergencies . . . .

Cuticura Antibacterial Hand Gel in passion flower and mango (50ml): We are all familiar with these hand gels now, it works just the same as all the others but this has one small benefit the smell. It has the prefect balance between a floral and fruity fragrance with only a hint of the typical anti bacterial smell that after a while you barely notice. I would highly recommend carrying round a hand gel and possibly mixing it up with some of the scented once for a nice change. Price: £1.20* in Superdrug, similar products are available at a large amount of retailers for a similar price.

The Body Shop Body Lotion in Love ect. . .(60ml): I always used to love the smell of the Love ect product but I think now they’ve discontinued the line (sad face), so when I saw it the other day in the body shop outlet in my university town I just had to own it. It now lives in my hand bag so if ever my hands feel dry or I just want a bit of the Love ect fragrence in my life I can always whip it out. Price: £2 at The Body Shop Outlet stores.

Image

(Nivea Invisible Antiperspirant)

Nivea Invisible Antiperspirant (35ml): Gym bag staple and ideal for short weekend breaks, its such a cute bottle and the product works really well not leaving deodorant marks and lasts forever keeping up with those cheeky package promises. However, although the initial fragrance is nice it quickly turns to an unpleasant musky dusty smell so next time I would definitely purchase a different deodorant miniature or not bother with a miniature as the new compressed deodorants come fairly small and as its pretty damn essential you can move than often make room for the real thing. Price: £1.20* at Superdrug, also available in Boots.

Image

(Halo Eye Make Up Remover Pads)

Halo Eye Make Up Remover Pads (30s): Brought this on a whim and actually really like them and think they will be ideal for my travels this summer as the pack so small it can easily be packed away unlike bulky bottles of cleanser and make up remover or even packs of wipes. So its a good idea but something else may be more gentle on the face or further skin routine may be required after use. Price: £1.50* at Superdrug.

While looking up the price of these I also saw that Halo do Hand Wipes (£1.09 for 10) and Travel Deodorant Wipes (£1.20 for 10), so if you are heading to a festival this summer why not check them out.

Image

(From L to R: Colgate Sensitive Pro-relief, Boots Smile Total Care)

Colgate Sensitive Pro Relief (22ml): This was a lovely little freebie they were giving away at the dentist which I picked up just because I haven’t noticed a change in my teeth but I either haven’t been using it long enough to either feel its effect or because my teeth aren’t that sensitive it wouldn’t make a difference regardless. Toothpaste is often a messy job when travelling and what I like about this is that not only does it neatly fit in a wash bag with everything else is that its a very secure screw cap so is unlikely to cause any nasty accidents. Price: £1.09 at Superdrug, also available at Boots.

Boots Smile Total Care (20ml): Not much to say about toothpaste this has a nice fresh mint taste and isn’t too gritty all in all good for travelling but be careful on placement as flip caps can be flimsy so if under pressure you might end up with a minty fresh wash bag and bathroom products. Price: unable to find online.

I brought these products from a mixture of stores pound shops are often great for the smaller versions or travel items which are often overpriced. Though throughout summer boots and Superdrug both often do mutli-buy deals on a range of travel sized items, the only reason I have only given Superdrug prices or those I can recall exactly is because I cannot find the miniatures on the the Boots online shop.

Hope you enjoyed the incite into my love of miniatures and my mini revue.
