Empties #6

I always seem to collect more and junk until it seems to get excessive, its always as though I think that’s not enough for a post and then suddenly I have a bag full of junk. It always seems weird my obsession reading/watching empties videos as its kinda loads of mini reviews.

Collection Illuminating Touch Brightening Concealer in Naked: This is my second possibly even third one of these and I love it for brightening up the under eye area. My main issue with these is that you cannot tell when you’ve almost finished, I used it one morning and then next nothing more came out. You pretty much always need to have a back up if you like them which sucks.

Maybelline New York Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser: Depending on the condition of my skin as and when I use it has really varied my opinion on this but most of the time I have liked it but ever the beauty blogger in me I always have to try new things. You can read a more in depth review of what I thought of the baby skin primer here.

Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation in 010 Light Porcelain: I loved this foundation and I think I may need to pick up a new one as it has such a beautiful dewy finish and it is great for spring summer. I am currently enjoying my lasting finish foundation but I think I will come back to the wake me up foundation after its done or I may give in to temptation and buy another one as it is a perfect summer foundation.

Rimmel Exaggerate Full Colour Lip Liner in 063 East End Snob: This has become a major obsession, so obsessed that I still have two more of these in my current make up stash. It is one of those products that is definitely worth the hype so if you are curious about it go and pick it up. I did a full review of it which you can check out here.

skin care

P.S. Love Love Your Skin Exfoliating Facial Cleansing Wipes: So these are one of the many options of Primark own range wipes but I picked these up as they just seemed different, you can see my initial view of them here. I absolutely love them they are really refreshing, although they are not actually any good for removing the bulk of make up it is great for once you’ve removed your make up and you just want the scrubby clean feeling. I will definitely repurchase this.

Tesco Cleansing Facial Wipes for Sensitive Skin: I think I have mentioned these before they are no way near as good as the old Tesco everyday value wipes which you cannot get anymore. They’ll do on lazy days or to correct mistakes/clean your hands while doing makeup.

Botanical Choice Eye Puffiness Minimising Patches in Ginkgo: I featured the sunflower version of these in my last empties and I decided to try the ginkgo ones. I am still not convinced that the actually do anything but they feel so cool and refreshing so even if they don’t do anything it doesn’t matter as it’s less than £2.00 a pack.

Superdrug Vitamin E Radiance Eyecream: I’m so lazy with my eye creams so I’m unlikely to ever see results unless I kick myself up the arse and get into gear. Also this felt like such a drying cream so if you know any good eye creams let me know in the comments below.

Superdrug Nourish Nail Polish Remover

Superdrug Nourishing Nail Polish Remover: I’m not sure there is much to say about nail polish remover as it is what it is, I have found that the acetone free is not as good at removing nail polish as those with acetone but it is definitely kinder on the skin around the fingers. I am not loyal to any nail polish removers regardless as I just grab what is around when I need a new one.

bath and body

Bath and Shower

Wilkinson’s Fruits Strawberry and Pomegranate Fragrance Explosion Bath Bomb: This smelt amazing and left the water a beautiful baby pink colour, it just made for such a relaxing bath. The bath bomb could be split for two baths but they are so inexpensive there is definitely no need to and if you want a luxury bath without the price of lush you should check them out.

The Body Shop Vanilla Brulee Shower Gel: I am so in love with this it smells amazing and it sucks it was only a Christmas fragrance so I hope they bring it back, luckily I have a second bottle that I am using now. Its really rich and creamy and is a great shower product for both morning and night as its sweet and subtle and not over powering.

The Body Shop Vanilla Brulee Body Polish: My ongoing vanilla obsession, I received this in a gift set with one of the shower gel and I’ve loved using it. Not as harsh as a body scrub it is a really light exfoliate so you can easily use it every other day, I will definitely grab more if it comes back at Christmas.

Dove Beauty Finish Anti-Perspirant: I love Dove Deoderant defiantly my go to brand as you don’t sweat and there are a lovely range of scents. This isn’t my favorite scent but is definitely a good one and I would pick it up again.

So there are my empties for this month, hope you enjoyed reading it and I’ll talk to you soon.

Review: Veet Face Precision Wax and Care

Hi guys, a slightly different type of review today with a focus on hair removal, well all do it but never seem to talk about it. After recommendation from my boyfriends sister of a DIY eyebrow fix and I thought I’d do a mini review, just incase some of you were interested.

The pack comes with a tube which contains the wax which has a lip gloss tip applicator and after care cream on the other side, a spatula and a pack of strips to help with removal. basically everything you may possibly ever require for hair removal. It can be used on for your eye brows lips or chin depending on you problem area and just take a few simple steps for hair removal. I’ve only used it for eyebrows so far so I can only review from that point of view.

So using it is fairly straight forward, simply boil the kettle and fill a mug with boiling water and leave for 1 minute and the wax melts. Then you simply decide what area you want, separate the hairs out if needs be and apply the wax and then place over the strip. The wax applicator is like a plastic lip gloss applicator which works so nicely at spreading out the wax and is amazingly accurate. Press down the strip, wait a second and pull! It didn’t really hurt I was amazing and managed to pull out a good amount of hair. I repeated it a few times, the only thing it didn’t work well at is shorter hairs but it does say in the instructions that it is less effective on hairs that are under 5mm, which is a disclaimer and it does do shorter hairs. Yet you may need to pull out the tweezers for a final bit of touch up, which isn’t that much effort. Ones your gone simply wash off any residue and apply the after care lotion, pretty straight forward really.

The strips you could probably cut in half, but there are 20 in a pack so will probably last ages anyway. It does say you can was them, and then if you leave them to dry you can reuse them but I feel as though it is more effort then its worth as there is plenty in the pack and you can buy just packs wax stripes that you can cut down accordingly. There is an adequate supply in the pack though so I think it is probably fine.

It worked so much better than I thought it would which is amazing, I definitely would recommend trying it if you want an at home facial hair solution.

February Favourites

feb faves

It’s that time again February favourites and I found it really hard to come up with a list of favourites this month so tried to take note of what I’ve been reaching for again and again this month to come up with my list.

The Body Shop Lip Butter Mango: With chapped lips being common place in winter due to extremes of hot and cold lip butter is a must, and this one is simply delicious. I tend to use this at the end of the day at the end of my skin care routine but I’ll use it more if my kinds need a little bit more TLC.

The Body Shop Body Scrub in Blueberry: I love the blueberry scents and I wanted a softer scent than the Soap and Glory scrub but that worked just as well and this definitely does. This is one of those body shop scrubs that looks like jam and smells amazing, it doesn’t taste amazing though my boyfriend tried it. I use this every couple of days and my legs feel so soft and silky. I’m loving it although the blueberry scents are limited edition so once it runs out I’ll stock up, if I can’t I’ll try a different scent in this range.

Benefits Roller Lash Mascara:  This is the sample version I got free with Elle this month and I love it, I’m still debating over buying the full version of it as I cannot justify spending £19.50 on a mascara especially as I use it up in a few months, anyone else think this? I love it, it adds amazing curl but I’m a student and work part time it’s 3 hours wages. I can justify on spending more on long lasting products like eye shadow especially a naked palette where it can create so many different looks with. Anyway enough rambling what do you think?

Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Nail Paint in Lyche: I’m one of those girls that always has to have my nails done but I cannot always be bothered to constantly touch my nails so this nude has been my go to. I love the Barry M Gelly formulas they look amazing and go on so easily and look amazing.

Umberto Giannini Miracle Worker with Argan Oil: I’m loving hair oils at the moment, they are keeping my hair silky and in amazing condition at the moment. I have three hair oils on the go at the moment but this is the one I’ve been reaching for most often although I guess hair oils in general should be a monthly favourite.

Bonus Favourite: Lilies

So as we all known February meant Valentines day and my boyfriend brought me two bouquets of lilies to mix together my traditional favourite of while lilies with the prettiest pink ones too, I love it.

So not much make up this month as its either stuff I am still trailing or are just my go to stuff that I am always loving. What have you been loving in February and what are you looking forward to in march?

Day 109: Opps I couldn’t resist

Today I met up with one of my old Sixth Form friends in town, before we both return to university for our final years we were going to have lunch and just window shop which never happens. So I managed to bring it in a little and brought only stuff I told myself I really needed (even if I didn’t)

So first up I went into H&M and brought leggings and a cute tee. The leggings or more like treggings I genuinely needed, my leggings are dying as I live in them and its so hard so find something that isn’t see through and those that aren’t always end up being too short in the leg. These are perfect, not see through well made and they are plenty long enough no more flashing my ankles. I’m so pleased with these and for £12.99 its a bargain. Available from H&M here.

I also brought the dusty print over sized tee, I just thought itt’d be great for uni when I couldn’t be bothered and wanted to be comfy. It will look effortlessly stylish with ankle boots, a snood and leather jacket as well as been 9am lecture friendly. Effortless rock chic is what I’m all about really. Available from H&M here for £7.99.

Then I got some beauty bits from Pound World and Superdrug.

So first up from poundworld I picked up a tube of maybelline baby lips, haven’t tried any yet and just thought why not for a pound, I’m excited to use it and think it will be one of those go to lip products that doesn’t leave my bag. I also picked up Myleene Klass nail wraps they are so cute, black with little white hearts that I think I will wear during freshers weeks as they are more durable than false nails, I haven’t used nail wraps but I imagine these to be really good hopefully, at a £1.00 if they are it doesn’t matter.

At Superdrug I just brought the essentials, I’ve been going without a top or base coat with my nails for ages so I finally thought I ought to get some so brought a MUA top coat and a separate MUA base coat, which I will review at some point. Due to the soap and glory concealer I brought being so disappointing (read the review) I repurchased the NYC cover stick in light, which I love I’m so glad to have a proper concealer back in my life.

So thats the bits I brought today, are you enjoying what’s in the shops at the moment? What have you brought recently?

Day 105: Benefits Build Your Own Kit: Is it worth it? (Theoretically)

benefit-cosmeticsSo while looking longingly on the Benefit website the other day at all the make up I want but cannot justify spending my money on I noticed they had a build your own kit thing and I started to wonder if its worth it, so lets work it out.

What does it include and for how much?

The kit costs £66 not matter what you choose from the selection, for this you get to pick a complextion product, cheek product, eye product, a ‘free’ gift and a make up bag. All in all not bad as you get some choice and its worth more than what you are actually paying for it as all items will be full size. Items you can choose from:

Complexion: the POREfessional; hello flawless oxygen wow! in various shades; big easy in various shades; “that gal”  or “hello flawless!”.

Cheeks: rockateur; benetint; hoola; posietint; lollitint; fine-one-one; highbeam; watt’s up! or dandelion.

Eyes: they’re real mascara; gimme brow; fakeup; BADgal lash mascara; boi-ing; high brow; instant brow pencil or ooh la lift.

‘Free’ gift: creaseless cream shadow; longwear powder shadow; ultra plush lip gloss; benebalm; chachabalm or lollibalm.

So no matter what your tastes or what you want to try it is probably be fairly easy to find an item you want on each list because even with cheeks a limited sounding category there’s highlighter; blush and bronzer so you just have to pick your favourite.

How does the cost add up?

Unfortunately Benefit do not sell the make up included in this kit separately so it is hard to gauge this as a priced item however, there travel sized beauty bag is £29.50 almost half of the price you pay on its own. Yet for the purpose of working out if it is worth it I will calculate it using the 4 cosmetic choices only but you can see how the retail values of the whole set is much greater than the cost of the kit.

First up how much would it cost if you choose all the least expensive item of each category and what the final cost would be: The cheapest items for each would result in you getting: “that gal” brightening face primer; instant brow pencil/high brow and any free gift lip product (choice of 4).

£22.50+£19.50+£15.50+£14.50= £72

£72-£66=£6 saving

The how much would it cost if you choose the most expensive item in each category? By choosing the most expensive items you would receive: big easy complexion corrector; any of the cheek and lip stains; they’re real! mascara and creaseless cream shadow/longwear powder shadow.

£87-£66=£21 saving

So by buying this kit any of the combinations will save you between £6 and £21.

So is it worth it?

Hmmm it depends it is a very good deal and obviously with the make up bag its huge savings, but you can buy a make up bag any time so its not worth including. The big question is before buying this is how much do you want the products if you are just picking for the sake of saving then no. If you only deserately want two products and aren’t fussed about the others do not bother buying it, buy the two products you want and save a bit of money. The kits are designed to make you buy more than you intend as they seem like a good deal as you save quite a bit but in reality if you were only going to spend £40/£50 you spend more than you want or need to without realising it (bit of economics for you).

At the end  of the day you need to weigh it up in your own head as to if its worth it for you as ultimately only you can decide it it is really worth the money.

Have your tried any of these benefit products, if so what do you think? And would you create your own kit?

Day 94: Top Lip Products Under £10

So I’m starting off this top drugstore make up week by starting off with my favourite drugstore Lip Products. Essentially all the lip sticks, lip glosses and lip balms I love from the drug store. (Products will be ordered in price order from cheapest to most expensive

 MUA Lipstick in Bare

I own loads of the MUA lipsticks now, but this is by far my favourite. Its a  simple nude tone that is perfect for any occasion or make up look, its a fairly matt finish and just ties up a simple look. The only thing is that it isn’t that moisturising therefore balm will need to be worn underneath. The best thing is the price at only £1.00 a lipstick you can experiment and build your collection easily. Available from Superdrug and the MUA store for £1.00.

Body Shop Born Lippy Stick Lip Balm in Pomegranate

18I’m a big lover of lip balms and the body shop, so this one is obvious. A highly moisturising, beautiful smelling lip balm with a slight tint to it, ideal for any make up kit or bag. It smell so delicious you could eat it and they have no shortage of yummy favourites will definitely make sure my supply is stocked up. Available from the Body Shop for £3.00.

MUA Luxe Lip Lacquer in Tranquility

These had a odd texture to get used to but have amazing colours and are extremely long lasting. Check out my few review of the MUA Luxe Lip Lacquer here. Available in Superdrug stores and from the MUA Store for £3.00.

Barry M Cor Balmy in Adam and Eve

This I have used pretty much everyday since I bought it and I have regularly mentioned it in current make up routine posts and make up kit posts. Read the full review here. Available at Superdrug for £3.49.

Body Shop Pink Grapefruit Lip Butter

For when your lips need some serious TLC, opt for the Body Shop Lip Butters unfortunately I am currently all out and will definitely be buying some before the winter weather well and truly sets in. I’m in love with all of the pink grapefruit range as it isn’t too sickly sweet and is really fresh smelly. There is no chapped lipped situation I have had that hasn’t been repaired but this. Available from the Body Shop for £4.00.

Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer in Nova

This was my statement lip colour of the summer, a beautiful bright girly pink. The apocalips colours come in a stunning range of colours and it has a beautiful moisturising formula for a full review look here. Available at Boots for £6.49 and Superdrug for £5.99.

Tanya Burr Lipgloss in Just Peachy

And finally Tanya Burrs lipgloss, this is relatively new to my collection and I’ve fallen head over heels in love with it. A beautiful neutral colour thats smooth and moisturising, plus another bonus it isn’t that sticky although I doubt nothing will ever stop my boyfriend moaning about lip gloss. All the youtubers love it and it isn’t a bias towards a friend it is an amazing product. Available from Superdrug for £6.99 £4.66.

What are your favourite budget beauty lip buys?

Day 92: Tanya Burr Cosmetics First Impressions

First up I apologize for the poor quality of the photo my camera is playing up and I am having to use my phone camera which is variable, therefore below I am going to use internet imagery, sorry in advance as I always prefer personal swatches.

So I finally brought some of Tanya Burrs cosmetic line I’ve been thinking about it for ages and finally made the plunge when looking on feel unique the other day. I’ve heard great things and due to most having a reduction on the site I couldn’t resist buying a lip gloss and a nail varnish.
Tanya Burr Lip gloss – Just Peachy

So I didn’t know where to start which the lip glosses and decided it was best to start with one before buying the lot. I’ll start with the packaging, first and foremost by buying from Feel Unique it actually had proper packaging opposed to cellophane type wrap that you get from picking one up in superdrug. I think these are really cute with a lovely picture of Tanya and a little cute note on the bag, it is just well thought out pretty packaging. Next up the actual product its just a sleek and simple square shaped tube, thats a handy size and will easily slip in a bag. The little heart on the top of the lid is cute too (I know I’m saying cute a lot too).

This has the standard doe foot applicator, no surprises there and it isn’t really putting lip gloss on without this type of application as i have the squeezy lip gloss one. The nicest surprise is simply the smell, its sweet and just reminds me of tuck shops sweets or strawberry sweets and is essentially good enough to eat. I love having nice smelling stuff on my lips as unlike other make up as it is right under your nose, I know I’m going to enjoy wearing it all the time.

The colour is a beautiful, a pinky neutral that completes a look without been overbearing so ideal for me the non lipstick wearer. It feels slick and smooth on the lips, moisturising and it doesn’t feel overly greasy or sticky so is nice to wear and I think it may become my go to lip gloss.

I’m excited to try out more and would definitely recommend checking them out whether you are a Tanya Burr fan or not.

Available from Superdrug and Feel Unique, Lip Glosses retail at £6.99 each. (However select shades are currently on offer at both).

Tanya Burr Nail Varnish – Penguin Chic

Like I really needed yet more nail varnish after buying another 3 only a week ago but I brought another one however, I will wear this loads of winter it’s a perfect shade for winter or looking sophisticated.

The bottle is simple and cute and the colour is simply beautiful, the colour pay off is fairly good you just need a few coats but what nail varnish doesn’t. It applies beautifully in thin layers and dries fairly quickly. I always struggle with what to say when reviewing nail varnishes other then it does what its meant to and that I am in love with the colour what more is there to say really. I am going to love wearing this and think over winter I will get a lot of wear out it.

Available at Superdrug and Feel Unique, usually retails for £5.99 but is currently available at various offers at both sites.

Verdict on Tanya Burr Cosmetics

So lets start with the love, they really have lived up to the hype with beautiful colours in both ranges as well as been great products. I also love the names that are sweet, highly suiting the product and fairly adorable you can tell time, thought and consideration has gone into picking the names to go along with each shade. This thought comes from the amount of nail varnishes in particular where you look at the name and think what the hell. The packaging is also well thought out and I love it, it isn’t half assed and looks chic as well as looking personal with the hand written logo.

My main issue is the price, at £5.99 a nail varnish and £6.99 for a nail varnish it is fairly pricey and entering the mid to high end of drug store cosmetics. Especially the nail varnish is normally overpriced considering high quality Barry M Gelly nail varnishes are a lot cheaper and are probably a much longer lasting wear (although I’m yet to put them to the test against each other). It just disappoints me, especially as a high amount of girls that watch and are loyal to these youtubers are 13 to 16, at this £7.00 for a lipgloss despite been lovely, is quite a lot when similar products are available in the drug store for  a lot less. Maybe I’m being fussy and some of these do veiw £7.00 to be cheap, this isn’t their fault and expensive is subjective.

I like the cosmetics and would repurchase or make further purchases in both ranges, but I am likely to wait for a sale.

Have you tried any Tanya Burr cosmetics, what did you think?
Gwenllian Branwen

Day 90: Make Up Starter Kit (under £20)

So school starts again this week so I thought I’d do a make up starter kit, for if you want to start but don’t know where to or you want to stock up your basics. To make it more of a challenge for myself by trying to create the entire set for under £20.00 for everything therefore making it appropriate for those starting out to affordably buy.

You don’t need to start off with a full foundation routine, begin with a BB cream or tinted moisturiser which will even out you’re skin tone but isn’t to heavy. For this I recommend Natural Collections Tinted Moisturiser, there are loads that are affordable but I didn’t want to suggest one I hadn’t tried myself. This I used loads when I started out using make up and its only £1.99 at boots.

For a powder I live at the budget end, I’ve tried loads and the one I always come back to is Collection Pressed Powder. For a start this one actually comes in a shade that matches my skin tone. It mattifys, reduces oily appearance and lasts all day, basically all that you want in a powder that you don’t need to spend any more. This is available at Superdrug for £1.99.

Concealer is a must for any make up collection, a recently new discovery for me but my mums used it for ages is the NYC Cover Stick, effortlessly blendable as well as providing a high level of coverage to hide pesky redness and spots. Available from Superdrug for £1.79.

To finish it off I’m adding a blush, to add a touch of colour to your face. My new favourite blushers are the MUA Blushers. With a large range of colours corals, pinks, lilacs edging on to bronze, they are well pigmented and workable. For such a low price it is perfect for starting off your make up collection and even experimenting with colours of blush without breaking the bank. Available direct from MUA or Superdrug for £1.00.

Most important for eyes is mascara, defining and adding to the look of the the face. Here I am choosing my tried and tested endlessly repurchased Collection Supersize Fat Lash MascaraI love this which adds lots of volume without clumps or looking unnatural it is now a permanent part of my make up collection. This is a great mascara for the price, I also love the Max Factor False Lash Effect but costing an aditional £8.00 its not for starter, I have also never paid full price for it so I understand not wanting to spend £11 on a mascara when cheaper ones like this work just as well. Available at Boots for £2.99.

For Eye Shadows I picked two palettes allowing you to complete all looks that you’d want to. First up I picked the NYC HD Quattro Eyeshadow in Gothic Harlem, this is perfect for night looks with everything you need for a night look, highlighter and all. Perfect for smokey eyes and dramatic night time looks, also at only £2.99 at Superdrug it is a perfect staple for your make up bag. In addition to this I picked my go to, madly in love with palette MUAs Heaven and Earth Palette. It is great for so many looks from simple to dramatic including beautiful brown smoky eyes, I just can’t get over how pigmented the eye shadows are it is just the perfect neutral budget palette. Available from Superdrug for £4.00.

I’m counting these as simple 1 item at only £1.00, as I think lip colour and picking between lipstick and lip gloss is definitely a personal preferences. I especially love the lipsticks such good pigmentation and log lasting I think everyone should check them out.

Final Total: £17.75

So here are a few ideas for a complete make up kit if you are just starting out especially at coming in at under £20, everyone priorities are different I am a much more eye person some people prefer lips so will spend more there and less on eyes.

What is in your make up starter kit?

Gwenllian Branwen

Day 77: Lipstick Confidence

It has taken me ages to have the confidence to wear lipstick especially a coloured one. I always used to be done up eyes and a bare lip or lip gloss kinda girl but right now as I right this I am sat on the train wearing bright pink lips (Rimmels Appocalips in Nova, in case you were curious) and I’m thinking how far I’ve come with playing with my look in the past year or so.
I cannot remember what it felt like when I first started wearing make up, especially a full face but my mum rarely wears make up and then often comments on when she wears it she can feel its there. I never really feel that my make up is there but has become such a part of my routine like putting on shoes before leaving the house, you know and feel them there but just don’t think about it as its normal for me now. However, for some reason I did struggle with getting used to wearing lipstick mainly because I felt it was there and it transfers so I got easily paranoid on what it looked like.
I started simple just to get used to lipstick by wearing sheer and nude shades. Slowly building up towards colour, finally I made it to lip colour but it took a long time. Regardless I will still normally opt for eyes over lips as I like my eyes more. My boyfriend saw my in bright lips for the first time last week and liked it, although he thinks I should go rockabilly.
After all make up is a very personal thing, for me it allows me to be whoever I want. It is definitely something that you learn over time and grows with you.
So are you confident with your lips or do you lead with something else?
