Review: Collection Velvet Kiss Moisturising Lip Cream in Blackberry

Collection Velvet Kiss Moisturising Lip Cream in 6 Blackberry

So, after my discussion on Friday about falling in love with makeup again, it only seems right to meet the product that inspired me to play with and enjoy makeup again the Collection Velvet Kiss Moisturising Lip Cream in the shade Blackberry, something fitting as it turns into Autumn. Per the Collection Website the Velvet Kiss Moisturising Lip Cream is a “Moisturising liquid lip cream, leaves a matter velvet finish on the lips without drying them.” Not a huge claim or promise but it retails for a mere £2.99, from Boots, Superdrug and even your local supermarket so how does this shape up.

Collection Velvet Kiss Moisturising Lip Cream in Blackberry

Let just start with the colour isn’t it just stunning, a beautiful well blackberry purple perfect for the autumn winter months when you want to embrace the berry lips in a fun way. I know purple is not necessarily a standard for my pale skin tone but I wanted something fun and slightly different really. Basically, I love the shade on and off the lips and I wonder why I never tried it before.

Unfortunately pass the beautiful colour I have to say my feelings are fairly mixed. For application, it’s not too difficult but can be a little patchy so you need to work a little bit to ensure its not streaky. The formula dries and sets quickly though so you can get on with your life fairly quickly, it’s not a liquid lipstick that stays tacky for hours.

The collection lip cream makes no promises to be long lasting, although I always feels as though long lasting comes in line with having a lip cream. This is definitely not long lasting by 10am on a work day it was patchy and completely gone from the middle, causing me to reapply, this was without a coffee or a drink on a hectic morning with nothing comping into contact with it. For the first reapplication, it goes over the top fine but after that you really need to take it off, start again and make sure my lips are clean and dry. Which has proven to be a pain, and after a morning of keeping up with my lipstick which you must with such a bold colour my lips were dry and uncomfortable.

I think it’s a shame how poor this venture turned out, I had high hopes for the Collection Lip Cream and thought it would be a great alternative option for lip creams but it turned out not to be so. I love the colour, and I’m glad I tried it but I think for now if you want a Matte Lip Cream I would just go for the NXY line which I have love all 3 shades I have purchased in the past. Keep your eyes peeled as I will be trying out a Rimmel London Matte Lip Cream in the coming weeks, which I am excited to try. Let me know what matte lip products you love in the comments and if you want to see more reviews for matte lip colours check out my reviews for the NXY Soft Matte Lip Cream in 08 San Paulo, 19 Cannes and 20 Copenhagen.

Falling In Love With Makeup Again

It seems like every year I get myself into a funk with makeup, especially in the summer I just never can be bothered and I felt my slump lasting longer. Something recently pushed me to try again and I fell in love with makeup again.
If you’ve followed my blog for a while you make have read some of my lipstick diaries post, where I’d made an active push to move out of my comfort zone and try something I had always wanted to. 2016 was the year I tried and became comfortable with lipstick (check out by lipstick diaries part one, two and three), Autumn 2017 was when I pushed the bat out and tried something completely different. On a whim while shopping one day I picked up the Collection Velvet Kiss Lip Cream in Blackberry, I wanted to try something completely different but without thinking about it properly, and for a few weeks at home the lip colour sat there. I suppose at some point I had wondered why I had purchased such a bold colour, especially as someone who still doesn’t wear a lot of lipstick I just thought I’d made a stupid mistake. It was to out there, too extreme for my comfort zone.

Then one Sunday night I decided to play with makeup as see if I could make this lip colour work, or at least feel comfortable in such a bold choice. For the first time in a long time, I opened my makeup draw and thought and played and tried something new, something different. I think it is the point of putting on makeup for nothing more than to have a go, and doing something different I wasn’t putting on my makeup for work or to go out for plans it was just an experiment and I ended up absolutely loving everything the whole look, purple lips included. From there the rest was history, I even took the step and wore the purple to work which was a huge confidence boost with every one loving it. So day by day I am doing something different, something bold and really embracing the lipstick trend this autumn into winter.
It may have just been a small on a whim purchase but I am glad I took the risk and tried something new, to all the more makeup looks, building my confidence and being more daring.

Review: Yves Saint Laurent ‘Rouge Volupté’ shine lipstick 09 Nude in Private

YSL Rouge Volupte Shine in 9 Nude in Private

Every girl love a little luxury, and when I received Debenhams vouchers for my birthday I brought what I had been trying to justify. The perfect everyday lipstick, that is simply beautiful. So maybe I’m biased, lets call this a swatch post opposed to a review as I am simply going to gush over how much I love the Yves Saint Laurent ‘Rouge Volupté’ Shine Lipstick 09 Nude in Private for a couple of hundred words and then a few pretty pictures.

The YSL Rough Volupté Shine Lipsticks, according to the Debenhams website are described as: A truly cult lipstick, ‘Rouge Volupté’ shine combines voluptuous glide and go colour with comfort and care. Thanks to 6 sensorial oils your lips are kissed with long lasting moisture. ‘Rouge Volupté’ shine lipstick is wrapped in a romantic, elegant, gold case. Shades available from semi sheer to more intense. My time to shine! Its moisturising action is gained through hyaluronic acid microspheres seal in moisture and prevent lips from drying out. With pomegranate and rice combat free radicals act as an antioxidant shield. Emollients make the lips soft and smooth leaving lips protected and comforted. Candelilla wax combined with silicon oils sheathes the lips in a shiny film coating that enhances the colour.”

I would say that this Nude in Private is a shade that is on the sheerer side, but this may be due to the fact it’s your lips but better shade it’s definitely depositing colour but nothing heavy. I must say this is one of the most comfortable lipsticks I have ever owned and I simply keep this in my bag as it is so easy to touch up without a mirror or on the go.

Also can we take a final minute to take a note of just how beautiful the YSL packaging, high end, beautiful and practical I just cannot get enough of it. I apologies for the fact this is a lack lustre review, I think the YSL lipsticks are simply beautiful and I’m so glad I finally have one in my collection. Let me know what you’ve tried from the YSL Rouge Volupté Shine Lipstick Range, or any other YSL products what are your favourites and what’s worth trying I’d love to know.

What’s in My Bag: Kate Spade Leighann Laurel Way Bag

Kate Spade Whats in My Bag

Woohoo it’s time to show off my favourite Birthday present my Kate Spade Leighann Laurel Way bag. I’ve wanted a nice bag and especially a Kate Spade bag for years but it took me 3-4 years to make a commitment. Just before my birthday me and my mum went to Bicester Outlet Village and I fell in love with the Kate Spade Laurel Way bag. Its smart, great for everyday and business, robust leather that won’t mark and has plenty of compartments and space basically everything I wanted in a bag.

I’m not great at describing bags, but hey why not just enjoy the pretty pictures.

So enough of my bag what did I decide to stuff it with? As well as internal pockets, the bag has two big zipped pockets at the front and back of the bag, these are great for keeping items secure and dry. I fit my Personal Planner with a pen in my front pocket, so I can make lists, keep on top of plans and just generally feeling organised I take my planner absolutely everywhere. In the mirror pocket of this at the bag of my bag, I store a large reusable tote which is now essential with having to pay for any plastic bag in the UK plus it can hold loads so it’s ideal if I need to pick up a few things after work or a few things unexpectedly.

What's In My Bag - Personal Planner

What's in My Bag - Lipsticks

Continuing with pockets, there are 3 internal pocks two which are just open very large phone pocks and one zip pocket for those items that you need to be more secure. In my open pockets I stock easy to grab essentials usually my phone, a packet of tissues and the rather none essential items are my 3 lip products. At the moment I am love a slightly more natural toned lip colour so I am switching between the PS Pro Rich Colour Lipstick in 03 Boudoir Pink, the NXY Soft Matte Lip Cream in Cannes and George Tint N Pout Lip Oil in 01. At present the zip up pocket only has headphones in it maybe one day I will have something important to carry around.

Finally at present there isn’t too much in the main compartment of my bag, I’m trying not to fill it with junk really. I suppose 6 months down the line it will be filled with trash but I always carry my little bag of essentials which I have covered in previous What’s in My Bag posts (https://gwenblogseverything.wordpress.com/category/life-2/whats-in-my-bag-life-3/) , and it doesn’t really change so I always have everything on hand and easy to grab. Finally I have the essentials such as my keys, purse and of course a bar of Dairy Milk Hazelnut which I picked up that day as a much needed chocolate fix.

Let me know in the comments what’s your in bag essentials in the comments.

NXY Soft Matte Lip Cream in San Paulo

nxy-soft-matte-lip-cream-in-san-paulo

Matte lips are always big this time of year and the longevity they provide is always a plus for when you want your makeup to last. If you’ve read my lipstick diaries you know I have been trying to push myself the past few months with lip colour, and after the success of my dabble with the NXY Soft Matte Lip Cream in Copgenhagen (why not check out my review here) I decided to try another one from the range this time a pretty pink.

I must say I love the packaging, although its simple and there is nothing special I love the velvety matte sort of finish of the lid its nothing much but it makes the product feels like a little touch of luxury even though it isn’t really. I’m also so glad this is a doe foot applicator; it is easy to use and apply an even coat all over the lips. A thin coat with dry in about a minute, drying matte and dry while a thick coat with take two/three minutes to dry and leaves a slight tacky feeling that you won’t generally feel just mainly when you press you lips together.

nxy-soft-matte-lip-cream-in-san-paulo

I love the finished look of a pretty matte pink lip, wearable and long lasting, I love the fact you just don’t have to think about it once it’s on its pretty much there for the long haul with the exception of food or drink. Drink its not so bad, just a little bit of fading in the centre of the mouth but this is pretty much expected. I have to say compared to the other NXY Lip Cream I own this fades easier and quicker with food, leaving only a very unflattering line around the edge or your mouth. Its light wearing strong lip liner and a pale lipstick, so if you want to wear this for a dinner date or lunch with friends I just recommend wearing something else unless you want to touch up.

This layers up nicely for reapplication purposes, you can reapply on top of what was there before and it looks perfectly fine. Although this is a drying product, because let’s face it what matte product isn’t drying it doesn’t split or stick to the dry areas of the lips it’s more of a comfort thing. Occasionally by the end of the day my lips start to feel uncomfortable and dry but 10 hours in, it’s a proper day wear just make sure you moisturise before and after to keep you lips happy and healthy.

nxy-soft-matte-lip-cream-in-san-paulo-swatches

It’s a super pretty cover, offers longevity and I’m glad it’s part of my collection. I definitely recommend checking out the NXY Soft Matte Lip Creams as the availability and ease of trying in the UK increases, but if I had to pick one I’d go for the NXY Soft Matte Lip Cream in Copenhagen. The formula is slightly variable between products so I am not sure what others in this line shade up like, but some are better than others although none are awful.

Have you tried the NXY Soft Matte Lip Creams and if so what do you think? Have you tried NXY since the UK launch and what do you think of what’s on offer.

Feel Unique Sales Haul

feel-unique-sales-haul-ft-fluer-de-force-elegant-touch-rimmelSeptember is when you can pick up some of the best sale items and I couldn’t help myself pick up a few things from Feel Unique, I managed to stay away from pricier items to save my money for other items.

nxy-soft-lip-cream-in-20-copenhagenrimmel-london-moisture-renew-lip-liner

So let’s start with the lips, if you saw my lipstick diaries post from Tuesday you’ll know I like to stay in my comfort zone and my first purchase is me trying to break out with a bold, dark colour and trying NYX at the same time. So I got the NXY Soft Lip Cream in 20 Copenhagen (£5.50), this is perfect for Autumn and I cannot wait to give it a go and see if I can embrace the bold lips. I kept wondering about getting an all-purpose lip liner and the Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lip Liner (£3.99 £2.99) seemed perfect, cannot wait to see if it works wonders.

fluer-de-force-eyeshadow-quad-in-020-lunar-rose

I need another pallet like I need a whole in the head but I have always been curious to try Fluer’s Makeup and the offer was too good to pass up. Only the Fluer De Force Eyeshadow Quad in 020 Lunar Rose (£7.99 £2.40), was reduced but it is such a wearable pallet and i cannot wait to put it to the test.

In the summer I was obsessed with Primarks Nails and sometimes I missed wearing my own polishes but some would look better on a longer nail so I thought I would try the Elegant Touch Totally Bare Short Stiletto (£4.65 £3.45). You never know I might even try nail art . . Finally was an essential purchase as I am all out of body scrub, and I’m loving cocoa butter products at the moment so I couldn’t resist the Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula Cocoa Body Scrub (£4.99 £3.74). Also if I like it it’s such an affordable and easily affordable product.

Overall I don’t think that I did too bad and I picked up a lot of savings, on top of the £9.04 made on picking sales items I also got a random £0.55 discount and used my Pick n Mix Voucher the final order came to £13.58! Insane isn’t it? and I’m so pleased with all of my purchases I cannot wait to try them out. Let me know what you would like to see reviewed in the comments.

Lipstick Diaries: A Love Hate Relationship

lipstick illustration

If you’ve followed my blog or even my Instagram for any period of time you may have noticed I’m not the most adventurous with lipstick, I love swatching an looking at all the beautiful colours but I lack confidence.

So no matter how much I swatch and try I feel completely ridiculous and paranoid wearing lipstick especially if it is out of my neutral comfort zone. There are numerous days I won’t even bother with lipstick just because I find it easier so I have made the decision to work on my feelings towards lipstick. I don’t want to change simply so I can buy and wear more makeup, it’s simply because I want to feel more confident in my own skin. I love makeup and I love playing with it so why does lipstick worry me so much? So even if after all of this even if I still don’t love lipstick as much as other products and I don’t always reach for it I just want to be confident and happy.

So starting this week I am ramping up my makeup and embracing or at least trying to embrace it so wish me luck. I will update this regularly and maybe the end of this year or 2017 for that matter can be the year of the lipstick for me.

Let me know in the comments your tips for feeling confident in makeup and what are your tricks and tips for rocking a bold lip.

Lipstick Diaries: I Can Do This

“You can do anything if you put your mind to it.” Maybe not a quote you’d associate with simply wearing lipstick but it’s something to meet. This wasn’t a journey of simply lets wearing lipstick, it was about moving out of my comfort zone and gaining confidence. Sure lipstick was a small thing but realistically it was more about how I view things in my head opposed to the actual act of the journey.

20161026_153214

Over the past few months I built myself up slowly, to a point when I start to feel much better about products I wouldn’t dream of in the past. There are still those odd moments of paranoia or uncertainty when wearing a bold lip but this will go in time. I went from rarely wearing lip colour to wearing a nude tone daily to building up to adding up the bolder colours into my makeup rotation. It’s all a case of persistence, sticking with what you set your mind to and you can do anything.

When I look back I think why was I scared to wear these colours before, what was I afraid of? So if I can do this what else have I not done that I can do? This was definitely more of a mental challenge than anything else that I have ever done before and simply by wearing a bold lip, I can think of all the other things I might be able to do. Sure its not this straight forward with other areas but I think for now I am onto the next thing.

So will you push yourself out of your comfort zone? What do you want to try that you have never had the confidence to do so? Let me know in the comments below, and if you haven’t read them you can check out my previous Lipstick Diaries here and here. I just also want to thank you all for the input and support in the journey, these posts have had more reception than I ever expected and I appreciate it all. Hopefully this mini series helped some if you guys too.

May Favourites

Where the hell has this year gone? It’s the end of May already and its almost summer, I just cannot get over it but I have been getting into the summer spirit and cannot wait to try to make the most of those long days.

May Favouritrs ft body shop, kiko, l'oreal paris

So this month I will start with quite a few makeup favourite as I have been mixing it up a little, not in the look but with the products I’ve been using. As its started to warm up I’ve ditched my blush and went for a bronzer with the BareMinerals Warmth, I didn’t get on with it at first but now I absolutely love it. It just adds definition and colour back into my face and is so simple to use.may favourites ft kiko, ysl, l'oreal paris & bareminerals

On to eye and this first product I won’t go on about is much as it was featured in a review earlier in the month but day after day I have been reaching for the Kiko Milano Eyeshadow in 130  Satin Beige Cream, I love it. Whether as a blending shade, brow highlight or all over the lid it’s so versatile it’s a new makeup staple. Keeping it simple I’m still loving just simple makeup with black eyeliner, and my go to of May has been the L’Oreal Paris So Couture Super Liner. It’s a felt tip eyeliner which is a deep black, and easy to control to create the desired look.

The final makeup item is a constant favourite but I feel like I should mention it again, the YSL Volupte Sheer Candy in Lush Coconut. It may not add much in terms of colour but it adds a beautiful gloss/shine to the lips without being glossy and sticky, perfect on its own or layered with other products. I’m back on my pastel nail kick from last year and with another Barry M polish as well Barry M Hi-Shine Polish in Sugar Apple. It’s somewhat of a mint shade but not, it’s hard to explain yet I just love how fun and fresh it looks.

may favourites ft body shop & barry m

My last two products are to help combat dry skin, I get horrible dry cracked skin on my elbows etc. so to treat this I use the unsung hero of Sudocream. It heals dry skin and put it on any hormonal breakouts it really brings them down almost immediately, highly recommend you keep this in the cupboard. Finally to then soften and moisture the treated skin I whip out The Body Shop Mango Body Butter, super summery and it feels great on the skin but what else were you expecting all body shop body butters rock.

So what have your being loving this month? And what exciting things are you doing this summer?

Top 5 Lip Products Under £5.00

Top 5 lip products

I thought I would start to do a bunch of top 5s, sharing the top 5 makeup products within a certain category although the schedule and frequency of the posts yet. Here we look at my favourite lip products that are all under £5, as who doesn’t like to look good on a budget. I feel like all of these have been mentioned before, but here is me declaring my love for them

P.s. Love Matte Long Lasting Lipstick in Whisper

First up is one that initially I had a love hate relationship with loving the colour but often finding it drying. That is the P.S. Love Matte Long Last Lipstick in Whisper, which you can see my full review here it is a muted purple pink and is a great neutral colour with a little bit of a oomph. It works well with a range of makeup looks and as long as you moisturise before and after you will be fine. Available from Primark for £1.00.

mua lipstick in14 bare

Staying in line with neutral we now have the ultimate everyday nude, the Makeup Academy Lipstick in 14 Bare. Rich, creamy and opaque this lipstick is a dream to apply and wear, with only minor touch ups every couple of hours if you wish but due to the nature of the colour and the fact it fades evenly meaning you don’t have to touch up. I also love MUA lipsticks as they have a great formula and a really affordable price point they are great for trying new things out. Available from Superdrug and online for £1.00.

Rimmel London Exaggerate Lip Liner in East End Snob

I’m going to brief with the third one in the list, the Rimmel London Exaggerate Lip Liner in 63 East End Snob. I know there’s been a lot of hype and love for this item, and it’s often sold out in stores but it’s such a perfect muted pink colour. It goes with a lot of other lip colours but looks amazing on its own and as a lip liner it lasts all day, you can find my full review for it here. Available from Boots and Superdrug etc. for £3.99.

Rimmel London Lipstick in 08

This next Rimmel one is a total cheat as I am so in love with it I’ve slipped it in as it’s over budget. The Rimmel London Kate Moss Long Lasting Lipstick in 08, is a creamy pink colour which I really struggle to explain. It is my go to colour, no matter what makeup stand I’m at I pick up this kind of shade but this is by far my favourite lipstick I own of this shade type as it’s so smooth and comfortable on the lips. Available from Boots and Superdrug etc. for £5.49.

I am finishing off with The Body Shop Mango Lip Butter, the best tip balm/treatment I have ever used and it is so affordable. I use this twice a day and it keeps dry and cracked lips at bay, also it smells amazing, so if you have dry lips look no further than the body shop. Available from The Body Shop for £4.00.

So those are my top 5 lip products for near enough £5.00, all amazing products which are really affordable. And if you need any more excuses to be enabled and to go shopping, buying and trying everything on this list would cost you £15.48! You’re welcome.
