What’s in My Travel Makeup Bag?

Travel Makeup

So tomorrow morning I will be getting up stupidly early for a Saturday, hopping in my friend’s car and heading on a girls trip up to Scotland. I will be posting a little travel diary once I’m back as well as a travel toiletries next week, but I thought I would start with the simplest my travel makeup bag.

I just want to start with the bag, which is a personalised bag from Not on The High Street. It’s a hand size that helps me not over pack but still fits plenty in and I love the aesthetic of it.

Travel Makeup - Personalised War Paint Makeup Bag

The focus of the products chosen is products I love, multipurpose and ones that are reliable. It’s always the golden rule for myself when travelling is wherever possible never take a new product, take ones you know that work and you are comfortable using so you have no mishaps when you only have a small collection of products to use.

Travel Makeup Face

For my base for this trip I am using the L’Oreal Paris Infallible 24-Hour Matte Foundation in 10 Porcelain, with a high matte long lasting coverage I know I can use this for a day look or for a fuller on night on the town look. Also with the plastic tube is more practical for travel than the glass ones as it won’t break and it’s not bulky. To Finish up my base fully I have my old faithful collection productions in the form of the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in 1 Fair and Collection Primed & Ready Invisible Setting Powder. The final item for my face is the Sleek Face Form Pallet in Fair, an unsurprising favourite just simply due to the fact it is 3 products in one and I can just use it all week with very little fuss.

Travel Makeup Random

For my eyeshadow, I am using two of my smaller go to pallets with every day subtle to dramatics covered in the No 7 Mini Eye Pallet and cute shimmer shades with the Fleur De Force Quad Eyeshadow in 020 Lunar Rose. Although both nude tones I feel as though I have a nice range of colours with these two as well as a range of looks going for the eyeshadow eyeliner look I have everything I need in this compact form. To finish of my eyes I am taking my only newer product as I had no choice using the L’Oreal Paris Mega Volume Miss Baby Roll Mascara, however I have used it a few times and I am enjoying it. A full review will be sure to come later. To complete my look, I cannot forget the brows and my fast favourite item in my makeup draw the Freedom Duo Brow Powder in Medium Brown could not have been left at home.

Travel Makeup Eyes

I haven’t included lip products or brushes, as I will literally pick lip products as I finish my packing and mix it with whatever currently in my bag, as I have been feeling bold recently and my lip products have been travelling everywhere with me. Still be sure to keep your eyes peeled over on Instagram for photos of my trip and the odd selfie or two.

August Collective Haul

It’s that time again, let see some of the junk I spent my money on in August. No hesitation let’s get into this.

Bells Shoes: If you haven’t heard of Bell Shoes I seriously recommend checking them out, they offer a great range of name brand shoes at great discounts and offers. I’ve been looking at them for a while and finally brought myself of the Joules Rockingham Wellies in Black Bau Bloom (£34.95 £19.95), cute and 100% practical I think these will get some serious use in the autumn months.

Home Sense 'Skys the Limit' Notebook

Home Sense: I don’t always buy a lot from Home Sense but it is a shop I love to go to, but don’t always buy anything. I love the stationary section, which is where I found the most beautiful “THE SKIES THE LIMIT” Notebook (£4.99), I already know what I want to use if for and its going to look beautiful on my desk.

Boots Part One: I have no idea why I decided to pick up the Soap & Glory What a Peeling Purifying De-Clog Mask (£4.00), but I did. I think I wanted to try out some new masks, and this seemed like a good opportunity. I am looking to create a review shortly.

Superdrug: Another collective haul and another appearance of the Nivea Daily Essentials Express Hydration Primer (£4.99 £2.39), I’ll never do my makeup without it as such a core item and I made sure to pick it up on offer.

Boots Part Two: Although we all know the benefits of a proper skin care routine, if we are honest sometimes we just cannot be bothered with the effort and want a quick and easy option. With a voucher in hand I picked up the No 7 Beautiful Skin Quick Thinking Wipes (£5.00 £2.00), normally I find £7 a bit steep for wipes but one of the women from work gave me a voucher and £2.00 for a pack brings it in line with other wipes I may potentially purchase. Let’s see if these are worth the price tag.

What did you pick up this month? Let me know in the comments and I start to finally get around to unpacking the shopping bags and putting all of these items in their place. If you want more hauls, a Primark August Haul will be up next Friday, keep your eyes peeled.

January Favourites

BRR! January has been bloody cold hasn’t it? I cannot wait for Spring to roll round for slightly better temperatures. Still one month into January I’m keeping on my new years resolutions and hopefully 2017 will shape up to be a good year. So what have I been loving in January 2017 . . .

jan-faves-garnier-tissue-mask

I don’t want to say too much as I want to do a full review shortly but the Garnier SkinActive Moisture Bomb Tissue Mask has been a saviour this month. My skin has been so dry recently and this has refreshed my skin, but I will post the full review shortly.

jan-fave-kiko-face-brush

New year and a new way to mix up my makeup routine, I have been really enjoying using the Kiko Milano Skin Tone Foundation Brush. It aids smooth and flawless makeup application, if you want to know more why not check out my review from the start of the month.

jan-faves-no-7-limitied-edition-nail-polish

This time of year is always weird with what colours to wear, vampy and reds feel weird after Christmas but it’s way too soon to break out the pastels and brights. I’m back on the neutral/nude band wagon and I’ve really been loving the No 7 Limited Edition Nail Colour in Brown, pretty and perfect for everyday. I also think it goes with everything and looks smart and manicure.

A bit of a short favourites this month as I have been re using a lot of the same products, maybe I will start to mix everything up again shortly. Let me know what you have you been loving this month, let me know in the comments so I can check them out.

Review: Boots Simply Sensitive Gentle Micealler Water

I love trying a lot of budget friendly micellar waters, due to the ease of taking makeup fully off and effortlessly. I think I’m on some sort of Boots kick with micellar water as they offer a good range for all skin types and budgets. Earlier this year I reviewed the No 7 Beautiful Skin Cleansing Water and Boots Botanic 3-in-1 Micellar Cleansing Water but now is the time for the Boots Simply Sensitive Micellar Water.

Boots Simple Sensitive Micealler Water

According to the Boots Website the sensitive micellar water is:

“Boots Simply Sensitive skincare range has been specially formulated to be kind to your skin. A simple collection of products which are fragrance and colour free. Containing soothing aloe vera, your skin is left feeling soft, smooth and cared for.

FREE FROM: fragrance, colour and ingredients known to be sensitive to your skin.”

It definitely fragrance free, it is so deceptive it smells and feels like water therefore is probably perfect for sensitive skin. I used it in the normal way using cotton wool pads and wiping, and to remove my eye makeup I hold a fresh cotton wool pad with solution on it of my eyes for 10-20 seconds before wiping. So how did this one compare?

In the removal of eyeshadow and general face makeup, all of this makeup is easily removed completely and it left my skin feeling clean and fresh. Unlike other micellar waters it leave my face feeling freshly wash, I feel as though it has less alcohol as its more like you’ve wet your face with water opposed to stripped it and in need of moisturising. I really enjoyed this part and it really does compare with other brands and ranges of micellar water.

The only issue is that it isn’t so good for mascara or heavy eye makeup, although it can easily take off eyeshadow when it comes to eyeliner and mascara it takes a lot of soaking and rubbing which isn’t something I’m keen on. I love using this for my face or light makeup but day to day I do layer my mascara up and it doesn’t always budge, so I’ve taken to using a my eye makeup remover pads for the time being.

The Boots Simple Sesitive Micellar Water retails for £3.99, available from Boots Stores and Boots.com

So overall I would recommend it to those with sensitive skin, as it’s so gentle but effective but it will definitely need combining with an effective/gentle eye makeup remover. Saying that if you just use a small swipe of mascara due to sensitive eyes this will probably be enough for you. It’s not my favourite micellar water I think the No 7 Beautiful Skin version will always be my favourite but this was a welcome change.

Whats In My Makeup Bag?

whats in my makeup bag.jpg

I don’t know if I’ve ever done a “What’s in my Makeup Bag” post for general day to day, although I have done them for travel which you can check out here. So I thought I would show you what is currently in my makeup bag and what I have been wearing day to day as well as a quick look at my everyday makeup as we start to get into summer. Or look see my previous makeup looks here.

So let’s start with my makeup bag, I picked this up from Primark the end of last year. It’s such a good size for travel and every day and I prefer the envelope style as its way easier to pack or take with me places. Although I have my makeup all stored near to where I do my makeup, the bag provides focus and the ability to take everything with me easily.

So let’s start with the base, as the weather gets warmer I have been going for a lighter makeup routine and the pieces in my makeup bag reflect this fact. So these are the key products I have been building my light, natural fresh looking summer look from.

whats in my makeup bag ft bareminerals, nivea and maybelline

Nivea Daily Essentials Express Hydration Primer ● Rimmel London Wake Me Up Concealer ● bareMinerals Original Foundation in N10 Fairly Light ● Maybellene New York Color Show Blush Em!

whats in my makeup bag ft no 7, kiko and urban decay

Urban Decay Primer Potion  ● No 7 Mini Eyshadow Palette  ● Kiko Milano Water Eyeshadow in 201  ● Kiko Milano Eyeshadow in 130  ● Kiko Milano Eyeshadow in 118  ● L’Oreal Paris So Couture Super Liner  ● L’Oreal Paris So Couture Volume Million Lashes

whats in my makeup bag ft rimmel, ysl

YSL Volupte Sheer Candy in Lush Coconut  ● Rimmel London Apocalips Lip Lacquer in 102 Nova  ● purminerals lip gloss in flirt

So this is everything I have been reaching for the past month or so, what have you been loving? Are you going lighter for summer or are you embracing colour and bright?

Top 5 Palettes

top 5 palettes

Another top 5 post, today I am summing up my top favourite palettes, 4 eyeshadow and 1 face from a variety of price points. So lets get started . . .

Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette

First up is my favourite eyeshadow palette of all time the Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette, I did an extensive review back in October as to if it was worth the price. If you want to read more, see swatches and all the pros and cons you can read my review here, but to cut a long story short I love it!

no 7 mini eye palette

I never normally look at number 7 but the other Christmas my sister brought me the No 7 Mini Eye Palette, which is sort of a best of palette. It has a good range of shades to help you create a wide range of looks from light and neutral to dark and smoky. Great for travel due to its huge mirror and variety or every day.

mua heaven and earth palette

You can definitely tell which eyeshadows are well loved within the MUA Heaven and Earth Eyeshadow Palette. At only £4.00 if offers amazing value with a wide variety of tones and shades which can all easily mix and match everything within the palette to create the perfect look. I definitely want to play a little more with the darker shades and have a little play.

MUA pretty edgy palette

One of the first products I reviewed on my blog (which you can read here cringe) was the MUA Luxe Pretty Edgy Eyeshadow Palette, a beautiful mix of shimmery satins and mattes which all have a beautiful colour bay of and blend into each other so easily. I get compliments on it every time I wear this and I adore the pinky purple tones with my blue eyes.

sleek face form palette

The final palette on this list is a face palette, and one I have reviewed and mentioned a few times one of the reviews you can ready here Sleek Face Form Palette. It’s the perfect do it all palette for contouring and the blush is absolutely beautiful. Its travel/makeup bag friendly and really does it all. You can read my review of it here.

So those are my top 5 palettes, let me know yours in the comments as well as any recommendations for palettes.

March Favourites

march faves ft nivea

So I missed my favourites month due to work load ect. so I skipped it, so this is a slightly combined monthly favourites as I am writing this slightly earlier than usual, as today I have just got back from an Easter Break. Hopefully I’ve had a good time and you’ve followed my adventure on Instagram, but it’s been a good month tons of seeing friends, my birthday and time away.

No 7 Pop & Glow Cream blushL'Oreal paris volume million lashes

Two of my biggest makeup favourites this month have already been mentioned on my blog but I still really love them first up is the L’Oreal Paris Volume Million Lashes. I reviewed this initially in January and you can find the full review here , but I cannot get over how good my lashes look every day. If you have not tried this out yet I highly recommend you head straight to an L’Oréal Counter. My second I featured in my previous post which was my ‘Go To Makeup Look’, the No 7 Pop & Glow Cream Blush in Classic Rose, which just keeps me looking fresh faced and dare I say flawless.

A big love this month has been hand creams, I have a small body lotion in my purse and the pretty Ted Baker one on my desk and work. My favourite hand cream however has been the Nivea Smooth Nourishing Hand Cream, a subtle smell and it smells similar to a lot of other Nivea products probably closest in smell to the night creams etc. but most of all they are highly moisturising.

I’m finally back on the oval cotton pads and have been loving the ASDA Skin Systems Oval Cosmetic Cotton Wool Pads, these are really well made and don’t end up tearing apart. Also no more using loads and loads of cotton pads, if you haven’t tried these yet highly recommend trying out oval pads. I’ve also been loving the Boots Essentials Cucumber Creamy Cleanser and Toner I have been using them every morning and evening and my skin looks and feels so much better because of this. They are super affordable too which is great.

So that’s a little insight as to what I have been loving this month, hope you all had a great March and a lovely Easter weekend. I will be back on Friday with a peak into what I got up to on my Easter break.

Go To Makeup

got to makeup

I was completely stuck on what to post and thought I haven’t done an ‘every day’ routine in a while, I much prefer these as I love known what people reach for and use every day. Also I always find it interesting to see what people do day-to-day as the difference in what people consider to be ‘essential’ varies. My ‘go-to’ makeup is what I wear daily to work, as weekends vary depending on plans from no makeup to the whole hog, so this is daily/work makeup routine.

go to makeup face ft nivea, rimmel and no 7

I feel like this product has started every single one my routines that I have done while having this blog but I don’t think my makeup sits right without it and it’s the Nivea Daily Essentials Express Hydration Primer, really hydrating. At the moment I am using the Rimmel London Match Perfection Foundation in Light Porcelain, I love the Rimmel foundations as they really work for me and have a good colour range. This is a good medium with medium coverage so it evens out and isn’t too heavy. Then to finish off my base I use the Rimmel London Wake Me Up Concealer under my eyes, it’s a great brightening concealer although I always tend to have slight darkness I feel though this works well.

Awake and natural is my go to look at the moment, looking fresh faced and youthful while it doesn’t look like I’m trying to yet and a great weapon in my arsenal is the No. 7 Pop & Glow Cream Blush Stick in Classic Rose, not heavy in colour in anyway but it adds a great flush to my face. The other benefit of a cream blush is that it lasts all day, and this one blends effortlessly so not much needs to be done. Finally to lock it all in a use a light dusting off Collection Pressed Powder in Ivory, I don’t use a lot just enough to help make it last. Once my face is on I use my Body Shop Mango Lip Butter ready for whatever I choose to use on my lips once I’ve finished, so they don’t dry out.

go to makeup eyes ft l'oreal paris, collection and bareminerals

The the eyes are super simple too, I use the L’Oreal Paris So Couture Super Liner to line my upper lid. It’s a deep black, as well as easy to use and manipulate to create the desired line and thickness. I tend to keep it simple though with a thin line close to the lash line to help define my eyes. Then for my lower lash line I use the Collection Colour Intense Kohl Pencil, which is my all-time favourite pencil. It just adds a little bit of something, minimal effort which provides a good amount of impact. To finish the eyes I use two mascaras, the old favourite BareMinerals Flawless Definition Mascara for my lower lash line as I love the narrower brush, then on my top lashes the L’Oreal Paris So Couture Volume Million Lashes (psst! full review here). Two great mascaras which define and add volume, I just love my eyes in this. The lips are inconsistent some days I use just a lip balm, while others I mix it up it is fairly inconsistent and goes on a whim really.

What are your go to products? What products can you simply not get enough of?

Empties #13

I’m trying to work out if my empties are often too long as I wait until I feel as though I have enough and then I ramble. So what do you think is best my current method or switching to monthly empties? Let me know in the comments as I am still a little torn about monthly empties.

Mark Hill De-Frizz Shine and Protect Spray: I’ve had this for ages and only just got round to using it, a heat protecting shine spray which smells great although I just love the Mark Hill products smell. Unfortunately they’ve discontinued this product but it doesn’t compare to my TRESemme heat defence spray also they spray went half way through and I had to move it to a different bottle. Would I repurchase: discontinued.

TRESemme Heat Defence Spray: On the topic of the TRESemme heat defence spay I have finished another one, I love this spray it last forever and helps keep my hair healthy and happy. Highly recommended. Would I Repurchase: always.

The Body Shop Blueberry Body Butter: I love the body shop body butters and the blueberry is no exception, it’s appeared in a few favourites and I am obsessed with this scent. Would I repurchase: yes.

Bath and Body Works Coconut and Lime Verbena (Body Lotion): My dad picked this up in the hotel when in American, and this has linked in my work desk draw since to keep my hands hydrated. Also I am so in love with the smell coconut and citrus is amazing and I’ve had loads of people asking what I’ve been using. Sadly we can’t get bath and body works stuff in the UK and my dad is only in America every 2/3 years with work.

Dove Go Fresh Revive Body Wash in Pomegranate and Lemon Verbena: I adore the Dove Deodorant with this scent and I couldn’t resist getting the shower gel, its sweet and fruity and so good. I also think its great combined with the deodorant as you’re not overpowered with multiple scents that don’t mix. Would I repurchase: yes.

Dolly Mixture Shower Crème in Rhubarb and Custard: It’s the month of shower gels or something, only because I don’t usually end up with two. Although it’s because I got two excited and used this and the Dove one simultaneously. As you know this appeared in my December Favourites and I could not get enough of it. Would I repurchase: yes for sure.

Rimmel London Match Perfection Foundation in 010 Light Porcelain: I have really enjoyed this foundation, lovely medium coverage and Rimmel London Formulas and tone tend to suit my skin. I also love have Rimmel do the super pale shades so I don’t have to worry about miss matching or it oxidising too much. Would I repurchase: yes.

Nivea Daily Essentials Express Hydration Primer: I’m not going to bother much with this, it turns up in most empties. Love it end of. Would I repurchase: always.

No 7 Beautiful Skin Cleansing Water: I reviewed this back in January and absolutely loved it, you can read the full review here. It smells amazing but is on the slightly pricer size of high street cleansing waters. I love the pump packaging so I think I’m going to refil it after cleansing it with a different cleansing water. Would I repurchase: maybe.

Cuticura clean and fresh and cherry blossom hand gel (empties #14)

Cuticura Crisp and Fresh Anti-Bacterial Hand Gel: I pretty much have hand gel everywhere and this bigger one is from my work desk, I buy the bigger ones for work so I don’t have to buy as often and the convenient size matters less. Would I repurchase: yes.

Cuticura Cherry Blossom Hand Gel (Primark Exclusive): I love the Primark exclusive scents for the hand gels and they are inexpensive too, this was sweet and floral. Plus the packaging is so pretty, highly recommend. Would I repurchase: definitely.

So that’s all my junk for this time, actually some nice variation. If you enjoy empties, then check out my previous empties here, or look in the bar up the top.

January Favouries

january faves ft No 7, wet n wild, benefit

Wow the first month of 2016 is almost over already, where did January go? Luckily I’m slowly getting back into the working spirit and planning bits for the rest of 2016, trips away etc. It’s been a great month, and I did some amazing things some of which you will see a small post about in the next week or so when I get round to compiling it. Anyway on to the favourites.

This month has all being about lashes, using two samples which I got with magazines in November but only just got round to using when I went away for new year. Although very so-so on their own combining the Benefit They’re Real Tinted Eyelash Primer and Clinique High Impact Mascara has helped me create a few full and flutter lash looks which are perfect for the day to day. Also they are so diddy so they can easily fit in your bag etc. I loved these when I was away and I slip one in my bag for at work or when I’m on the go.

jan faves ft wet n wild comfort zone palette, benefit they're real primer, clinique mascara

It’s all about the eyes with me as always and since starting back at work on the 4th Jan I’ve found myself reaching for the Wet n Wild Comfort Zone Palette almost daily, the palette provides two distinct looks and I don’t tend to mix. I’ve been keeping my eyes super simple for work and simply use the right hand side highlight colour all over my lid, and the corresponding crease colour for an outer v. It creates a super subtle but pretty eye look for work,

I reviewed this next favourite earlier in the month, so I won’t say too much as its best just to read the review but I have loved using the No 7 Beautiful Skin Cleansing Water since December. Perfectly kind to skin, but great for makeup removal I just wanted to wait until the review was out to put in it my favourites. You can read the full review here.

As you will of seen in my ‘What I go For Christmas’ post I received a Body Shop Green Tea Gift set (I also received a mango one later on as well) and I normally never give the soaps a second glance but I am so glad I did. Unlike the other kits the green tea set contained an exfoliating soap and I thought I would give it a shot so I could save the little exfoliating tubs for a later date. I’m so glad I decided to bother with The Body Shop Fuji Green Tea Exfoliating Soap, it is amazing!

So what have you loved in the first month of 2016, let me know in the comments below.
