Millionaires Cheesecake Recipe

millionaries-cheesecake

It’s been a good long while since I’ve posted recipe on my blog, I think in 2017 I might try to make it a monthly thing but we will have to wait and see as lighting is difficult etc. Anyway I have a super decedent and tasty recipe today, since I’ve had to cut egg completely out of my diet after been diagnosed with an intolerance desert has become more difficult especially simply picking one up but since discovering how easy it is to make my own I’ve never looked back.

millionaires-cheesecake-recipie

This is a slightly stepped up cheese cake but skip the caramel and ganache layers and you have a tasty and simple cheesecake. Now onto the ingredients, you will need:

  • 200g Crushed Digestive Biscuits;
  • 100g Melted Butter;
  • 397g Can of Caramel*(*you can make your own from a second can of condensed milk and sugar, but this was easy. Find out the full recipe here )
  • 397g can of Condensed Milk;
  • 250g of Mascarpone;
  • Lemon Juice;
  • 200g Double Cream;
  • 200g Dark Chocolate.

You will also need a cake tin with a removable base Ii used a 20cm base), simply line with greaseproof paper, and a food processor is ideal for this task.

Biscuit Base

  1. Break up the biscuits into slightly smaller pieces and crush, either with a rolling pin or a food processor. Crush until split up into small pieces.
  2. Place in a microwave proof bowl and simply place in the microwave a few seconds at a time until fully melted. Then mix the butter and biscuit crumbs together, either by hand in a bowl or put the butter in the food processor and let it do the work.
  3. Once thoroughly mixed move the mixture into the cake tin, use your hands to press it down smooth and ensure the mixture reaches all of the sides. Chill for 10 minutes.

Second Layer

  1. Pour out the caramel onto the biscuit base, ensure its spread evenly. Return to the fridge for another 10 minutes.

Cheesecake Layer

  1. Add the mascarpone and condensed milk together, whisk together once the mixture is smooth add in the lemon juice. Lemon juice is essential to make the mixture thicken, add a little bit at a time until the mixture starts to thicken up it should be thick and creamy.
  2. Pour the mixture into the tin and allow to cool for 1 to 2 hours.

Chocolate Ganache

  1. Pour the double cream into a pan and heat gently, once it started to warm through break up the chocolate and drop into the mixture. Keep the heat low and stir constantly until everything is fully mixed.
  2. Once satisfied with the mixture poor into a jug and leave on the side to cool down to room temperature.
  3. Once at room temperature and the cheesecake layer has stiffened in the fridge poor the ganache on the top and return to the fridge.
  4. Cool in the fridge for at least another 2 hours in the fridge, although this we’ve found it tastes best after being chilled for at least 24hours.

Once fully firm, remove for the fridge and serve, nomnom. Enjoy and let me know if you try it out.

October Favourites

Phew! I am kind of relieved that October is over, it’s been an insane month but I am finally back in the blogging headspace and kicking it off with October favourites as what is simpler than talking about the products you have been loving. If you want to know what has been going on in the past month or so, or the reasons for my absence why not check out my life update post over here. So let’s get into what I have been loving throughout October.

october-favourites-simple-miceallar-cleansing-wipes

Makeup wipes always seem to be a hotly contested item on the blogosphere of whether you should use them or not, it’s true they cannot replace a proper skincare routine but they definitely do the trick if you need a quick fix. I’ve been loving the Simple Kind to Skin Micellar Cleansing Wipes recently, in fact a friend turned me onto them and I don’t know why I’ve never tried them before. The wipes themselves a well-made, thick and soft and retain plenty of micellar water meaning they feel wet and easily remove makeup. I love using these as soon as I get in just to freshen up my face and remove my makeup so it’s less effort later and my skin can breathe.

As the weather gets colder, my skin starts to dry out and requires a little more TLC with drastic temperature changes from the chilly outside to heated offices and houses. For that I’ve been loving The Crème Shop Sheet masks, you may remember by obsession with the penguin one back in August which you can find my review for here, I’ve been trying several of the and I love the racoon one too. They are some of the best sheet masks I’ve ever used and they are super fun too.

october-faves-catrice-eyeshadow-bareminerals-lipstick

This month I’m on the simple eyeshadow and eyeliner band wagon, favouring to stay in my warm bed just a few minutes longer in the mornings. So, my go to eyeshadow has become Catrice Absolute Eye Colour 1010 Vin-Touch of Rose. I got this as a sample we received at work, and it’s such a creamy everyday eyeshadow colour. Just a little bit on the lid provides a neutral base but a little bit of definition to the eye perfect for when you want to keep it simple. With a simple eye I’ve been trying to push the boundaries with my lips as part of my confidence building, I wrote a whole post about it here back in September. So September was all about everyday nude lips while October was more about true lipstick although nothing out there simply wearing BareMinerals Marvellous Moxie Lipstick in Be a Star, made me that bit more confident to think about doing more with my lipstick. Its such a great everyday colour and its small size makes it an obvious choice for touch ups ect.

Finally I’ve been loving the Etude House Missing U Hand Cream #3 This is “Panda Story”, this super hand cream fits perfectly in my bag it’s so cute as well as been a super hydrating hand cream. I cannot get over how cute this is, can you?

So what have you guys been loving in October, let me know in the comments below.

DIY Pamper Jar Inspiration

So today I thought I would do a quick post about a small gift I did for I did for one of my best friends from university. I’ve seen these jars all over the place and thought I would do it myself, this isn’t a DIY per say but this is what I filled it with and how I wrapped it all up.

DIY Pamper Jar - Kilner Jar

I was so long to find this pink Kilner jar on offer, and I built it all up around this jar. It’s a really great size and I knew she’d find a use for it in the future whether within her passion for baking or for general storage.

The next thing was to fill it up, wrapping each thing in cute stared tissue paper so everything that is in there will be a surprise. I started off with two Soap and Glory travel sized items, a body scrub and the old favorite righteous butter. A perfect pairing for travel or just to try. I then went for a load of little treats from a Foot Pack, Aussie hair mask and a selection of face masks. Finally to finish off the jar, I packed in 3 nail polishes two beautiful shades of purple and a glitter top coat. All small items that I knew she’d love and appreciate and I think that’s the joy of the pamper or treat jars that you can do whatever you want with them.

I found the cute star tissue paper in the card factory and this pink and white bag in the pound shop. I just feel like they really finish the whole gift off, it looked so cute and she loved the gift.

So have you ever made up one of these jars, what would you put in it and would you make this for a friend?

No 7 Beautiful Skin

No 7 Beautiful Skin Cleansing Water

By now the majority of us have tried cleansing/micellar waters especially from brands such as Simple, Garnier and L’Oreal Paris, and here’s one I haven’t tried before nor have heard much about the No 7 Beautiful Skin Cleansing Water. So I thought I would give it a go.

I always feel as though the Boots No 7 brand is often overlooked, I feel as though for most people view it as for older people but it is a really great brand. With high quality makeup and skincare, although it’s not the cheapest brand especially as the No 7 Cleansing water is £9.50 for 200ml so much expensive than its drug store counter parts yet comparable to a lot of other brands. One tip I will give is that Boots regularly give out vouchers for No 7 products with purchases, £3 off makeup and £5 off Skincare. So most of the time you will be able to get it for £4.50, or get it with many other offers available at Boots.

The product comes in a tall plastic bottle with a pump top, there isn’t a cap but the pump top can be twisted to lock it so you don’t accidently spill it everywhere. The pump is a nice touch, preventing the use of too much product and it is obviously a pricier packaging option, nice but not necessary. Unlike the other Cleansing Waters I’ve tried this one has a least a semi subtle scent

So first up and most importantly how does this deal with the removal of makeup? First and foremost due to the pump it takes that bit longer soak the cotton wool pads, or dampen them enough but that’s not really a big deal as most the time it prevents wasting the product. It swipes of product really easy and takes all of the makeup, so that nothing is left on the skin. For removing eye makeup I often find it best to hold the cotton pad on the eye for that bit longer, just hold it on for 10 seconds and it tends to remove, and at least loosen the worst of the product off as they days when I layer up mascara and go big it takes a bit more to get them off. All in all it works well as a makeup remover.

Obviously we don’t just use these things for makeup removal, sometimes it provides a good cleanse. I especially like using it as a pre-makeup cleanse when it’s been a decent amount of time from my morning skincare routine and I want to make sure my face is fully cleansed and clean. It’s a simple case of splash a cotton wool pad with some of the No 7 Cleansing Water and swipe it all over your skin, which is just super refreshing. I would liken it to the Ganier and other micellar water in how it leaves the skin, just how you want it clean and clear. It does exactly what you want it too, I especially love it before bed as it smells amazing. Use it before bed and you wake up in the morning with your skin feeling fresh and smelling amazing.

Overall I think that it is a great product, it does what it’s says it does and smells amazing and I would recommend giving it a go if you are curious. Is it better than others? No not necessarily as it works just as well as the others, it’s not hard as they are all great products and have transformed skincare routines no end. I understand here that price is an issue, although comparable some other brands Ganier, Simple and L’Oréal all offer great products for under £5.00 and I feel as though it depends what you wish to spend your money on.

Let me know what your favourite Cleansing Waters let me know in the comments below, is there any more I should try?

Peterborough Haul

Peterborough

So if you’ve seen my Day in the Life: Girly Catch-up & Shopping Post you will know I spent a girly day shopping in Peterborough with a few friends and I thought I’d share the spoils of the day with you guys here.

H&M Stripped SweaterH&M Leggings

The first port of call was H&M I needed some new treggings/leggings as I’ve worn my last couple of pairs to death. I’ve never tried their Heavy Leggings (£7.99) before but they aren’t see through and I thought I would give them a go. If they are a dud I will go back to their treggings which are amazing. Also as we are getting into winter I wanted another slouchy relaxed jumper like this Stripped Relaxed Jumper (£9.99), it is super casual so you can slouch around the house. Also you can pair it with a leather jacket and some cute boots and wear it for a causal day out.

Primark Haul ft eyeliner and cami dress

You cannot go shopping without popping to Primark, although I haven’t brought many clothes recently as I’m trying to wear what I have instead of constantly buying clothes I will never wear. However, I did buy a new basic top a Grey Cami Dress (£3.00), I would never wear these as a dress but I prefer the longer length with leggings. These basics are perfect for layering at winter.

I always love the look of mixed, midi and stacked rings but I didn’t want to spend a huge amount until I knew that I liked the look and feel of wearing them. So I thought the Opia Silver Mixed Ring Pack (£2.50) would be a good place to start, Primark has loads of these cute sets I just prefer silver in my jewellery. I picked up another P.S. Love Egg Makeup Sponge (£1.50), these have transformed my makeup application and just make it so much smother and airbrushed looking. I was it every day, and buy a new one every ¾ months as they start to fall apart. I don’t know if the Real Techniques one to lasts longer, so let me know in the comments. The final thing I picked up was the P.S. Love Black Liquid Eyeliner (£1.00), this is actually a beautiful streak free and deep black eyeliner the only problem is I need to work on my liquid eyeliner skills.

Boots ft Rimmel and L'oreal

There were some great offers in Boots, first I needed some more Micellar Water I’ve tried and loved the L’Oreal and Ganier Micellar Water. However with the Boots app providing me £2.00 of L’Oreal Paris Skincare, it made sense to use buy the L’Oreal Paris Skin Perfection Micellar Water (£2.99). I needed a new concealer and primer and I ws comtemplating not repurchasing the Rimmel London Wake Me Up Concealer in Ivory for the 3rd time in a row but with it being on offer for 2 for £10.00 in made sense to repurchase it. I also picked up the Rimmel London Lasting Finish Primer which I have loved using a budget alternative to my bareMinerals Primer.

Superdrug ft my little starteddy cotton pads

Finally some essentials from Superdrug. I wanted to get some softer cotton wool pads so I thought I would go back to using the baby cotton wool pads, which has the bonus of having super cute teddy bears on the pads. I picked up two packs of My Little Star Small Square Cotton Wool Pads, retailing at £1.49 each but as they were buy one get one half price it made sense with such basics to buy two as you know that you will get the use out of both packs and save money. Also I repurchased the Carex Complete Strawberry Laces Hand Gel (£0.99), which smells like a Strawberry Daiquiri which is so refreshing and pleasant when you need to clean your hands.

So that’s what I picked up at my shopping trip in Peterborough, actually getting what I need which is a first especially when shopping with friends.

Graduation Day

I've Graduated

So if you’ve seen my life update, you will have seen I graduated on the 10th September, with a Upper Second Class Honours in Economics from the University of Hertfordshire. It’s a nice little ceremony in St Albans Cathedral, which is a beautiful venue, and I feel like it was such a great event, I thought I’d do a little bit of a post about my outfit, makeup and just some nice snaps from the day.

Graduation Outfit

I didn’t set out to buy a brand new dress for graduation and if I brought something new I wanted to be able to reware it, I own enough clothes as it is, buying more only seems excessive at this point. Yet a few weeks before my graduation I found this super cute tea dress on sale in Apricot for £15.00, irresistibly cute I had to have it. With the graduation sash being white and silver most outfit choices were going to go but I feel as though the mint green pops on this outfit really set it off. I wanted to keep my shoes simple too and nothing too high, so I went for a pair of comfy favourites. I have no idea what brand these are and I’ve had them a few years but they never do me wrong, as a pair of nudes with a cute bow are suitable for all occasions and go with all outfits really, you just can wear black tights with them. I feel like the whole outfit fit the sense of the occasion without being too dressy or anything too much.

With my hair I kept it super simple, I had being tempted to curl it but I didn’t want the curls to drop and I needed a style in which the cap would fit. To me straightened hair seemed the most appropriate it looks nice and I didn’t have to worry about it, just a touch of hair spray in the hope of not getting hat hair and some grips to keep everything in place.

The makeup was all about being long lasting and looking nice in photographs, after all I’ll have these for the rest of my life so looking nice is important and I’ll be full faced in make up for 8 to 10 hours and it needed to remain flawless the entire time. I do have makeup envy of my friend Enxhi who went for it a bit more but then she was topping up her face every hour which seemed to take its toll.

Graduation Makeuo

I went for pretty much double priming my face starting with a very simple base of the Rimmel London Lasting Finish Primer, which really hydrates and preps the team. Pairing this with my bareMinerals Prime Time Original Foundation Primer, which is my favourite primer and simply put this in the areas where my makeup tends to fade first. For my makeup I decided to opt for my lighter foundation and I know this isn’t that light but my other one is proper full coverage and I was in the mood for a lighter look that the L’Oreal Paris True Match Foundation in Rosy Ivory provides. Then obviously to make myself flawless I concealer is needed using the Rimmel London Wake Me Up Concealer in Ivory under my eyes and where I want it to be brightened. With the Rimmel London Lasting Finish Concealer in Porcelain, covering my blemishes etc. leading to a really flawless face. I didn’t feel like having much colour on my cheeks or extreme bronze etc. so I used my Maybelline New York Color Show Blush Em! which due to its lacking in pigment it just adds a beautiful subtle flush of colour.

Now onto the eyes which because none of the palettes do shadow names its hard to say how I created the look, but I went for a nice transitional brown eyeshadow look as I didn’t want something ott. Obviously I used my trusty Urban Decay Primer Potion, as a based to help it stay where I would be without it, I have no idea. Then I used a combination of the No 7 Mini Eyeshadow Palette and a shade from the Wet n Wild Comfort Zone Palette to create the complete look. To make it a touch more glam I used the champagne glittery loose pigment that is the bareMinerals Eyeshadow in Flawless Diamond which just made it glitter and really set off the look. Finishing it off with lashings of the bareMinerals Flawless Definition Mascara. As I kept putting off buying a setting spray for so long I never did it I used the good old hairspray trick of setting your makeup, which actually works better than setting spray. Although it’s not ideal and you are definitely best leaving it for one offs opposed to everyday. Then to finish it off and to set everything I used the bareMinerals Original Foundation in N10 Fairly Light. Nothing to over the top but mood appropriate.

Graduation Day
The final touch was a pretty manicure which is curtsy of Primark, I wasn’t going to spend loads on getting my nails done, and I didn’t want to keep them on for ages because they aren’t practical for work. These super cute flower detail nails are from Primark and they are simply adorable. They lasted the entire time and I even got a few complements about them.

So that’s what I wore for my graduation, nothing too fancy but something a bit nice. It was a great day and I’m so proud of everyone for getting to this point, it is a little bit odd not to be returning to education this year but I’m working and I’m excited for all the things I can do in life. To those of you who are contining or starting further education, make the most of it enjoy the experience while you can but make sure you work it can influence the rest of your life and it is possible to have fun and do well. I wish you all the best.

Empties #8

Empties #8

Another empties for you again today, something that I feel as though I am always doing so I like to spread them out and they end up backing up. Saying that I am unsure if I would want to do a monthly empties as I feel as though it might be loads one month and nothing the next. My current method I feel as though works as I make the post when it feels worth it to do so, so let me know what you think monthly empties or when I have a significant amount of empties. This is a long once so brace yourself.

makeup empties

Soap and Glory Kick Ass Concealer in Light: This was a huge dud for me, not only was it was too dark but the texture was completely wrong for me, making my skin look dried out and barely blending. I was initially put off by the too dark colour but tried it anyway for review purposes, I was so disappointed I never got round to the review. I finally managed to finish it by using it as a eyeshadow primer as its still a better primer that the soap and glory eyeshadow primer and I hate wasting my money.

Would I repurchase this: bottom line, no. There are way better stick concealers out there or even doe foot concealers in the drug store for much less.

Soap and Glory It’s About Prime Eyeshadow Primer: This was another Soap and Glory dud and if you’ve gathered from above it was useless. It barely extended the life of my eyeshadow and worst of all it made primers that didn’t crease previously, crease when using this underneath. Also for the same price you can get a travel sized Urban Decay Primer Potion, and the urban decay travel sized contains more. So spend your money on the urban decay primer potion faultless and it costs the same. I don’t know if the other colour is better as I have the nude champagne colour but I’m not willing to try.

Would I repurchase this: another rather obvious no, opt for urban decay travel size as mentioned above same price for slightly more.

Off topic but am I the only one who Soap and Glory products don’t work for, I haven’t tried the brow products and the bronzer is alright. I think it is an occasion where it is a brand that doesn’t work for me but if it works for you go for it. Still there skin care and bath products are in general really good but I think I won’t bother with the makeup anymore.

Rimmel Fix & Perfect Pro Primer: I’m still not sure who recommended this one to me and it was you I’m so sorry, this is amazing. My favourite primer is still probably my bareMineral primer but this is way more affordable and will be one that I will continue to purchase. A thick cream primer that just sets up your skin nicely and meshs well with other Rimmel Foundations. Personally I find that Rimmel does some of the best foundations within the drug store, does anyone else find this?

Would I repurchase this: most definitely.

Rimmel London Wake Me Up Concealer in Ivory: This is a great concealer and a good level of brightening as it is the wake me up formula, it is definitely more of under eye rather than a spot concealer due to the brightening properties but it’s a very good drug store concealer.

Would I repurchase this: yes I already have a second one.

Saiva Med Lip Care: I’ve had this for ages and its started to look a bit off so I’m getting rid of it. It has no scent but is great at treating and hydrating the lips and I’m trying to look out for another one, only problem is my mum picked it up in Lidli so I might have to get looking online.

Would I repurchase this: If I ever find it again yes, great for treating damaged lips.

P.S. Love Egg Shaped Makeup Sponge: This has done me since February/March time I think but it’s got passed its best and it just looks worse for wear every time I attempt to clean it. Although it is fairly firm I really love applying my make up with this it just blends everything so easily and helps me look flawless.

Would I repurchase this: I already have.

skincare empties

Lacura Facial Cleansing Wipes for Normal Skin: These I picked up from Aldi on a whim as I thought tesco had stopped doing their everyday wipes but magically they are back. These were alright as far as wipes go and they were relatively inexpensive although I cannot remember the exact price, less than £1.00 anyway. Generally really good and managed to move most of the makeup. Good for if you want to take makeup off before doing a proper routine later or just to clean up your face part way through the day if it’s a bit grimy.

Would I repurchase: probably, not in a rush to repurchase but I wouldn’t not get them again.

Superdrug Deep Action Anti-Blemish Gel: Most of my skin problems are hormonal, time of the month and all that, so I cannot prevent them and all I really have to do is make an effort to reduce them. This is where this came in handy, in order to reduce spots especially the big ones that seem to magically appear and you think you’d need a miracle to get rid of them. Sure they aren’t magically gone in 12 hours but when does that ever happen. It does however, significantly reduce the amount of time it’s there.

Would I repurchase: Yes, I already have but I always wait until superdrug has a regular offer such as 1/3-1/2 off own brand skincare.

Superdrug Deep Cleansing Facial Sheet Mask: I love sheet masks as they are so simple yet this was a bit of a miss for me, I love there refreshing sheet mask. This semi stung when it tingled and smelt like old talcum powder, yeah so basically not worth it.

Would I repurchase: No way!

The Body Shop Vitamin E Cream Cleanser and The Body Shop Vitamin E Hydrating Toner (Travel Sizes/60ml): I am doing these as a pair as I’m only used these as a pair, I have mentioned them in previous posts and I really enjoy them. I am not sure how to describe the scent but it’s very subtle, and they go on so smooth and easily leaving your skin feeling amazing. Also they are highly effective at removing makeup

Would I repurchase: probably.

Simple Kind to Skin + Brightening Eye Makeup Remover Pads: I got these for travelling which you will be able to see in my travel toiletries post here. These are so-so they do a decent job at removing makeup but not perfect, I prefer the Halo eye makeup remover pads. They are good for travel and not a bad buy. Yet with the travel size make up removers and cleansers becoming more common I think I am less likely to buy these sorts of things while travelling.

Would I repurchase: unsure.

deoderant empties

It is somewhat worrying that I have enough deodorants to warrant to move them out of random and move them in to a section of them own. To be honest two of them are miniatures which makes it slightly better.

Sanex Dermo Pro Hydrate Anti-Perspirant Deodorant: I think this was in my last empties too as I brought them on a multi-buy offer, I am not loyal to any one deodorant I just tend to buy what’s on offer. Yeah its alright and does its job there isn’t much to say.

Would I repurchase: yeah why not.

Dove Go Fresh Anti-Perspirant in Pomegranate and Lemon Verbena (Travel Size): Although these travel sized ones aren’t value for money, I find them so irresistible and cute I cannot help buying them. Also in the summer months it’s sometimes nice to keep one in your bag because you know sweat. This is my all-time favourite deodorant scents and I regularly buy the full size version of this.

Would I repurchase: Yes!

Sure Women Long Lasting Protection in Bright (Travel Size): I never normally get sure products but I wanted another miniature and this seemed like the best option. I actually thoroughly enjoyed it and might look to try more sure deodorants in future:

Would I repurchase: Probably.

random empties

Colgate FluriGard Daily Rinse: I love this mouth wash, it really freshens your breath and cleans your mouth. I know most of the time all mouth washes do the same thing and this is on the pricier side of mouth wash but I couldn’t imagine using anything else. It was first recommended to me by my orthodontist when I got my braces when I was 10/11, so yeah I’ve been using this for a good 10 years now I’m not going back now.

Would I repurchase: Definitely.

Nailene Ultra Quick Nail Glue: I tend to buy primark nails as they are so pretty and tend to be well made, especially for £1-£2.00 per set but the glue is a bit so-so. Therefore I buy this amazing nailene glue, it really does the job and takes ages to dry up so I can take ages between wearing false nails. Highly recommend it for whatever nails you buy and buying this for one set of Primark nails is cheaper than buying an elegant touch set and they look just as good.

Would I repurchase: Definitely.

Quite a healthy mix of empties this time. Have you tried any of these products and if so what did you think of them.

Morrison’s Sensitive Aloe Vera Shave Gel: I’ve gone through a number of these now and I know it has appeared in a few empties, it is a brilliant inexpensive shave gel and leaves my legs soft and smooth. This is a staple in my bathroom cabinet.

Would I repurchase: I always do.

Gillette Satin Care Pure & Delicate Shave Gel: I actually liked having the smaller size for ease of travel, meaning I could keep having soft legs while away as I feel like shave gel makes such a different. I will definitely look a pick up the smaller sizes if I’m going away again it is definitely worth it.

Would I repurchase: yes.

Cussons Carex Complete Strawberry Laces Refreshing Hand Gel: I think I have mentioned it before that I don’t like alcohol smelling gels. This didn’t smell like strawberry laces but it had that synthetic strawberry scent and I really enjoyed it, other than the smell it’s a hand gel and does its job a definate must in my bags.

Would I repurchase: yes but I’m not fused by what my hand gel I have as long as I have one.

Argan Oil Deep Moisturising Foot Pack: I love foot packs but this one left my feet feeling super odd, I think I’ll go back to the peppermint or tea tree foot packs from now on.

Would I repurchase: no.

Phew! That’s everything and it can now all go into my recycling, well everything that is recyclable of courses. Have you tried any of these and what did you think of them.

Fruit and Nut Flapjack

fruit and nut flapjack

Who doesn’t love a tasty treat, sure these aren’t exactly healthy but are great to enjoy at home or grab for breakfast if you are like me and suck at the breakfast thing. Now I do these with dried fruit and nuts in them but if you don’t like them change them up for what you enjoy or simply remove them from the recipe all together. This makes a fair amount, it works just as well halved as this has how the recipe I based this on was just gage it for our own needs.

Ingredients:

Flapjack Ingredients

You will need:

  • 250g Brown Sugar
  • 500g of Porridge Oats (you don’t need anything special, I just used the Morrisons Savers Oats for this)
  • 250g Butter (or Margarine)
  • 5/6 tbspn of Golden Syrup (this can vary on personal preference due to taste but it helps it stick together)
  • Selection of dried fruit and nut (Today I’m using walnuts, chopped nuts and rasins but you can use whatever you want peanuts, dried cranberries basically whatever you have and whatever you like)

Flapjack steps 1 to 3

1. Add all of your ingredients except the dried fruits and nuts to the food processor, I like to add mine in layers so the different ingredients are mixed throughout.

2. Turn on the food processor and mix until all of the ingredients are fully mixed and it starts to resemble a proper mixture, you may occasionally need to stop and mix up the ingredients properly. Just try not to over mix it as you’d like to keep the oats mostly intact.

3. When mixed place the mixture into a large bowl with the remaining fruit and nut, mix by hand. This can take a little bit of work but just keep going until the ingredients are mixed in thoroughly and are semi evenly spread.

Flapjack steps 4 and 5

4. Put the mixture into a greased baking tray, I use a square cake tin. Spread out and use the back of the spoon and make sure its even. Bake in the oven at 180°C for around 20 minutes or until it is golden brown.

5. When its golden brown remove from the oven, take a spatula and run along the edges so it doesn’t stick. Then leave to cool before removing from the tin.

fruit & nut flapjack

Slice up the flapjack and enjoy. Flapjack can last up to a week in an airtight container, but we all know it won’t last that long anyway.

Travel Toiletries

travel toiletries

Summers started and we’re all dreaming of going away, due to interviews and the job hunt I am not going on holiday this summer and am more hoping to go away for a small break in October for mine and my boyfriends 3 year anniversary. However, I am off to Cornwall for a week this year as my boyfriend is from Cornwall so its basically a mini holiday at his house so these are the toiletries item I am taking with me. A small side note due to the fact that I will not need to take shampoo and conditioner as my boyfriends mum always picks up tresemme for me so that saves me room for packing other bits as well as shower gel, anyway here is what is in my toiletries bag.

travel skin care

Skincare

I know usually you’d think just to take makeup wipes as its a holiday after all but I like to keep up a proper skincare routine if I can as it makes all of the difference. So to keep a little bit of normality I am using The Body Shop Vitamin E Cream Cleanser and The Body Shop Hydrating Toner, I absolutely love this stuff it smell amazing and leaves my skin feeling clean and fresh. After these two I obviously need some moisturiser so I’m taking the Simple Kind to Skin Hydrating Light Moisturiser just something gentle but deeply hydrating which is all I need really. Just in case I cannot get all of my makeup off or I need to tidy it up I am taking the Simple Kind to Skin and Brightening Eye Makeup Remover Pads, I am yet to try them but I’m hoping they will be good. Then to finish off my skincare just in case I need it I have the Superdrug Deep Action Anti-Blemish gel, which really works at simply reducing the size of my spots and seeing as its so small its good to just throw into my toiletries bag.

Then I have just some single use items in case I need some additional TLC, first up is the Superdrug Deep Action Pore-Cleansing Nose Strips because I get loads of blackheads on my nose and although these don’t always work they are great when they do.  Also my new favourite items more because they feel amazing rather than if they do anything, the Botanical Choice Eye Puffiness Minimising Patches Ginkgo so if I get tired I can just feel like I’m doing something about it. Although I rarely end up using it I often like to take a face mask and to keep it mess free I am taking the Superdrug Deep Cleansing Facial Sheet Mask, seeing as though it is so compact there is no harm in taking it with me.

travel hair products

Hair

As well as my trusty Tangle Teezer, which I have popped in half to store hair ties and bobby pins I only have three hair products. First up is my trust TRESemme Heat Defence Styling Spray, I will be taking my straighteners with me so this is vital and is absolutely amazing. Then  to keep my hair silky smooth and hopefully damage free I am using the Dove Anti-Frizz Serum. It smells amazing and leaves my hair feeling great. The final item is Batiste Orginal Dry Shampoo, just in case my hair needs a quick refresher or I want to create a voluminous style it is basically a great all rounder.

bits and bobs

Other

I hate lugging about a clunky deodorant bottle so I’m choosing this year to splurge on the travel sized items and I brought my favourite deodorant, the Dove Go Fresh Deodorant in Pomegranate & Lemon Verbena. Smelling fresh and amazing, my boyfriend loves this scent and always steals it when I have it. Just in case this runs out I am taking a mini Women Sure Antiperspirant in the Bright Fragrance, this is purely as I couldn’t find another Dove one but Sure is a reliable brand. I don’t want to lug around a huge fragrence so I am going to take my miniature Elizabeth Arden Sunflower Perfume, a perfect travel size and a beautiful summer scent I will definitely get my use out of it.

So that is what I am taking with me on my trip to Cornwall, I think it covers everything I need without being excessive. What are your travelling toiletry essentials? Do you opt for minis, decanting or take the full size?

“No Makeup” Makeup, 6 Product Face

no makeup makeup

Hi guys, Some days you don’t want to wear loads of makeup but you still want something the quintessential no makeup makeup days. The thing is often with stuff like this the looks I’ve seen online are so many steps and near enough matching my full face of make up. This is super simple and is what I have being wearing most days as it is just effortless.

It is important to start with a strong base at the moment I am really loving the Rimmel London Fix and Perfect Pro Primer in 002, which is more of a creamy moisturizing primer opposed to a silicon based primer. It just a hydrating primer which is a perfect base and just begins the makeup look of right. I then use the Rimmel London 9-in-1 BB Cream in Very Light, which is a really good light base and perfect for summer. You can read my full opinion on the bb cream in my review here. Rounding up a perfect face is another Rimmel product, I don’t think I really realised it before but Rimmel is definitely my go to drug store brand for base products. So for concealer I use the do it all Rimmel London Wake Me Up Concealer in Ivory, it is slightly more of a brightening concealer and just airbrushes your face nicely.

So after I have a strong base I just use 3 more simple products to achieve an effortless make up look, and I’ll show you how I mix it up. I don’t really need powder so I tend to skip it but I like to add a little bit more dimension to my face with a touch of blush, as I tend to opt for blush over bronzer. However, as my blush is part of the Sleek Face Form Palette in Light set I could probably do full thing and it would still count as 6 products but all I want is a simple look. The blush in this packet is very summery as it adds a slight flush of colour but with the shimmer it adds that slight glow which is beautiful.

Then it is just the finishing touches starting with a simple coat of mascara, nothing much as you don’t want over done lashes. I am loving the primark own brand P.S. Love Lift and Curl Mascara which I feel is on par with the Benefit Roller Lash but so much cheaper, I highly recommend trying it out. Then to finish it off I just use some lip balm or in this case lip butter. I am really loving The Body Shop Mango Lip Butter as it smells absolutely amazing and feels great of the lips. Occasionally I will mix it up with a a different lip colour but it depends what I feel like really.

So what is your 5 (6) product face? Do you have a simple no make look which seems like it has a lot less than the no makeup looks created by gurus, let me know what your favourite base colours are.
